5 out of 5 eggsFantastic chip for the money

Pros: This is a great 4 core/4 thread chip for a recent new system build. While it benchmarks at about 1/2 (45%) the total compute power of Intel's current flagship desktop chip (i7-5960X - 8 core/16 thread), it costs less than 1/5th as much.

Stock included cooler is more than adequate for my setup - my current workload (SETI@home on 4 cores + GPU) keeps ticking along at 3.5 GHz (max speed step) and only hits around 60-64C (<150F).

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: System build:

Intel i5-4590 4 core @ 3.3 GHz
ASRock H97M Pro4 motherboard (1150)
16G (2x8) Kingston HyperX Savage DDR3-1600 (CAS 9-9-9)
Corsair CX430 80+ Bronze active PFC PSU
CoolMaster N200 case

5 out of 5 eggsHasgood

Pros: This processor is a beast for the money you get it for. I purchased mine when it was on sale for 200$~. I use this in a gaming pc and so far, it hasn't let me down. None of the games I've played so far have been too much of a challenge for it (I'm looking at you, Arma3). It runs cool with my Hyper212 Evo and I'm not upset in any way that I made the decision to purchase this processor.

Cons: There are no cons, so to speak, at this very moment.

Other Thoughts: The only thing is, I wish I would have shelled out a little more money for the K version so that I'd be able to overclock that bad boy.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: -Intel I5..
-Good price/performance

Cons: -Will not divide by zero

Other Thoughts: What can i say really, it works and works well. If your not over-clocking this is the one to get seeing as how its only marginally more expensive than its lesser counterparts (at the time im writing this at least).

Was very pleasantly surprised by the temps on it on stock cooling (max 60c in a Deepcool Kendomen case and its Summer). As i had read Haswells ran hot. My old i3-2120 ran slightly hotter though it was five years old and in an inferior case.

4 out of 5 eggsSmooth, Efficient

Pros: Stable, fast, reliable.

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Everything you would expect in an Intel product. I've come to trust their CPU's exclusively.

5 out of 5 eggsI5-4590

Pros: Seems to be a solid processor. It scores a 7.6 on Windows Experience 7 without any overclocking. I paired with Asus Z97-A motherboard and samsung 850 SSD.

Cons: None really that I can think of. For the money, it's pretty close to an I7

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: Great single threaded performance and adequate multi threaded performance. Easily the best value in the Intel gaming CPU market when I picked up on sale last week. Keeps cool while playing FFXIV and Second Life, which are both maxed at 1080p and just barely playable, but pretty. The CPU is hovering around 62-65 Celsius under gaming conditions. Haven't had a chance to run anything through it using meGUI for video encoding, or dbpoweramp for music transcoding, but I'd assume from all the benchmarks I've viewed it will provide a noticeable jump in performance over the i3 for those uses.

Cons: The stock fan is merely acceptable, might want an aftermarket CPU cooler for more intense and habitual work, other than infrequently encoding or transcoding stuff. Based off of a half hour prime 95 torture test. I got 84 Celsius, which is still absolutely fine, for spring.

Other Thoughts: I'm really glad I decided to bump up my budget and go with a true quad core rather than another dual core with hyper-threading. While currently, I notice no large difference while using my computer for day to day tasks over my i3 2120, I assure you the difference will be there to see when I go to demux, encode and mux a large movie file.

That being said, my gaming tastes are mostly MMOs and Second Life. A good CPU with great single thread performance is a must for FFXIV and WoW. That is the only reason I chose this build around Intel, and I wish I could have fit in a "k" version CPU in my budget. That being said, my build is fairly minimal and budget oriented while providing a good, noticeable boost in performance.

i5 4590
Zotac GTX 750ti 2gb
8gb Team Ares DDR3 1600mhz
8gb Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1600mz (meh, it works, from old build)
120gb OCZ Arc 100
Antec Three Hundred Two Case
Cheap LG 1080p monitor

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for gaming

Pros: Pros=
-It's an intel processor
-3.7 turbo
-stock heat sink keeps it under 50'C under load

Cons: Cons=

-N/A at this time

Other Thoughts: I really don't see the point of spending $50 more to be able to overclock if gaming is all you plan on doing. I built a pc with gaming in mind, and with this CPU at it's heart, there has been no issues, and i am completely smitten with the performance. It is in a true sweet spot price/performance wise.
