5 out of 5 eggsHandles gaming exceptionally well. Snappy!

Pros: -Hyperthreading
-3.5 ghz
-Runs cool (I delidded it right away and threw a L9i Noctua cooler on it due to a tiny case with limited airflow..)
-Extremely low power consumption.

Cons: Not a true quad core, though Windows sees it as such due to Hyperthreading.

Other Thoughts: I build this in a computer case that's honestly just a little bigger than a power supply (DIYPC Minicube-Gold HTPC) for a music production/gaming/media PC that can sit on a desk.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Price / Performance

Pros: Very responsive, hyper threading, all the good stuff.
The CPU handles my HTPC with ease, running Windows media center with ease. Every thing is smooth.

The CPU stays very cool which in turn makes the fans very quiet. I have the stock cooler on and it works just fine.

Lastly, do not under estimate this CPU. Remember, it is a dual core Haswell running at 3.5Ghz. Much more power than I had anticipated.

Great performance for the price.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have this in an MSI B85M motherboaed, 1 OS drive and a 6TB raid 0 array for recordings, file sharing and other media.

PC serves as:
Media center PC (DVR) (I cut the cord)
File Server - all audio and video files are stored there
Web server - Runs IIS

Never slows down and runs great.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel Core i3-4150 Haswell Dual-Core Processor

Pros: Price for performance ratio for Intel based CPU is outstanding.

Cons: Despite having hyper-threading, dual-core technology is being phased out in terms of games and larger applications/virtual technology.

Other Thoughts: It's a really nice, budget oriented, Intel processor. So far, it has ran SC2 on Ultra, PlanetSide 2 on High, and AVP on Ultra, without any notable issues or hold-ups. Runs cool even with stock fan, 41c or so. Energy efficient.

Only paired with a Radeon R7 260x and 4GB DDR3 1600MHz and makes my games enjoyably smooth and pretty.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Speedy performance for a reasonable price. The killawatt meter shows 50 watts less draw at idle than my previous 65w rated AMD cpu using all the same system components except for the the H81 board and the I3.

Cons: Under load it gets to about 147F with the stock heatsink/fan, this is well within spec for the chip but wish the stock cooler was a little better.

Other Thoughts: Planned to get the G3258 and overclock it but I'd have to get a more expensive motherboard to be sure it would work and even then there is no guarantee the silicon I receive will have much headroom. Decided to go with an inexpensive H81board and the i3 instead for a similar price as the Pentium with a Z series board with a guaranteed level of performance.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Big Bang

Pros: *Low Power Consumption

*Hyper-threading enabled

*Very high instruction per clock calculation, runs circles around A*D 6 core cpu's in efficiency for both power usage and data processing

*Literally half the performance of a $300 core i7 Cpu for only 120$ with the current rebate

*Can handle playing planet side 2 on high settings with 100% render distance at 1080P with a GTX650ti GPU and standard 8GB 4x2GB DDR3 1600mhz at a solid 60FPS in heavy battles 50+ people and hell on earth going on every where.

* Can handle Live streaming to Twitch.TV at high resolution with the GTX650ti that im useing. unfortunately my internet connection cannot lol
CPU Usage on windows 7 dedicated strickly for gaming reaches around 70% load while streaming and gameplay still holds solid and smooth while it streams. that to me is amazing how a dual core can take that kinda punishment and not choke.

Cons: NONE

dual core cpu's from intel have not only improved from an IPC stand point and power usage but they have become such a bargain for the performance your getting that they basically scream at pc gamers

"BUY Me and you will not regret it"

Other Thoughts: dual core cpu's from intel have not only improved from an IPC stand point and power usage but they have become such a bargain for the performance your getting that they basically scream at pc gamers

it handles any PC game on the market like its nothing. and scales well with higher end GPU's

Pair this CPU with a samsung 840 evo ssd 250GB and standard frequency ram like ddr3 1600mhz and you'll be blown away at how fast your games load from level switches/zones, to texture loading.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat "Green" Gaming processor

Pros: Low heat
Low electricity
2 cores and 4 threads - Great for gaming with discrete graphics
$100 less than an i5 haswell and performs just as well in the gaming world.

Cons: Stock heatsink like all others was a bit weak - See others.
As many others mentioned, this can be a bit slow to encode, but still better than a single core P4.

Other Thoughts: With the right case, the stock heatsink is a breeze.
Using stock heatsink and having a GTX 750 in there, i still manage to keep cpu temp at 32C idle and 40ish during gaming.

Gaming tests with GTX 750 Ti:
Minecraft @ 1080 - 60 fps steadily
Dino Origin @ 1080 - 46 fps steadily
Killing floor @ 1080 - 60 fps steadily
RCT3 - 1440x960 (or some weird resolution that it supports) 99-100 FPS steadily. Stays at 100 while riding rides. Does tank when you add a pool, but other than that. Since this doesn't reach 1080, it is easy to stay at these speeds.
GTA 4 @ 1080 - Shifted between 30 fps and 50 fps depending on traffic and whether I was in a building or blowing stuff up/speeding.

Total Pc wattage was 126 with a GTX 750 TI, 3 hard drives, and 1 optical drive and 4 case fans. This processor is truly a "Go green" asset if you are planning on building a gaming rig that doesn't raise your electric bill.

** My system idles at 50-53w using a watt-o-meter to test it. Although it is still not good enough for a 24/7 computer in the environmental department, it can play games at higher resolutions without slurping sparks.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Intel Core i3's are underrated as far as I am concerned. A bit much for just regular internet browsing, and can handle many applications at once and can even hold its own when it comes to gaming if paired with a good graphics card. Even without a graphics card, the HD graphics 4400 aren't terrible. I can play Fallout New Vegas at medium settings and still get 40-60 FPS.

Cons: Only dual core. It may be a powerful for an i3, but if you need true performance, buy a quad core like an i5 or i7.

Other Thoughts: This processor will be more than enough for the average user. Multitasking and gaming is surprisingly good for a dual core. Very low power requirements. I will upgrade to an i5 eventually, but for now I am very happy with this product.

My system:

Core i3-4150
Gigabyte GA-H81-HD2
Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB)
Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200rpm
DIYPC Solar-M1-R
Rosewill Capstone 450W

Buying a GTX 770 and upgrading the PSU soon.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel Haswell i3

Pros: Here is a most Excellent CPU for the person on a modest price budget. It is super fast at 3.5Ghz along with Dual Cores and has yet to hang or cycle down on speed with heavy Video/Game use.
The stock fan looks weak, but it really does the job it is intended to do.
I put this on an ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 MoBo and it is Rock Steady- actually i built 3 of these systems using the exact same components and every one worked right out of the box with no DOA chips or fans.

Cons: None - see 'Other Thoughts'

Other Thoughts: The stock fan and Heatsink look like cheap plastic components, but once installed (correctly) the heatsink is toally against the CPU chip and the Fan is large enough for cooling this puppy to the proper Temp. The only thing is the initial start-up the Fan did not tuen right away. It has a second or so lag, but one the temp of the CPU heated up the MoBo put out more juice and it fired right on up.
So if you aare watching the fan (as i always do just in case of a DOA) do not be alarmed with this slight lag in it kicking on.
I believe the Chip has to reach a certian Temp for the fan to get the voltage increase to get it to go ahead and spin up.
I have seen this on other MoBo's also, so it is not just an ASUS thingy.

For the price and performance it is a Excellent Chip for almost any application.
Buy one and never look back.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality Low Budget Solution

Pros: This processor has given me exactly what I have been looking for in a processor.

I was looking at getting a devils canyon i5/i7 but they cost around 300 for the processor. I had been saving up until my current motherboard popped a capacitor. I am upgrading from an Abit pro motherboard with a core 2 quad, 4 gigs of ddr2.

My current rig is this processor, an asrock z97 extreme6, and 16 gigs of ddr3 1600, with a 2tb sshd.

I decided to make a decision and purchase this wonderful, inexpensive, and what i figured would be a temporary processor while I saved up for the i7. Got this one on sale for $105 here at Newegg.

Here are my thoughts:
First of all, it has contacts instead of pins so no more bent pins!
It has yet to bottleneck whilst playing 3 clients of eve online, with firefox having a million and a half windows, and 2 virtual machines in vmware running Debian linux and windows server 2008.
It is EXTREMELY snappy and satisfying at base clock speeds.
The maximum recorded temperature with the stock cooler is 66c. This is with factory thermal paste, in a thermaltake case in a less than ideal location without much room to breathe.

Cons: My only real con is the stock cooler. That thing looks like junk. It's quiet, yes... but its the smallest cpu cooler i've ever seen, with a fan shroud that does not prevent the 4 pin fan wire from accidentally being hit on the fan. I think it's a trinket they just threw in the basket simply because it had to be there.

Other Thoughts: If you're considering this processor and you do not need more than 2 cores (most games do not use multiple cores), Buy this!

Spend the cash, get a reliable, quality processor and buy an aftermarket cooler because the OEM one is garbage.

5 out of 5 eggsBEAST OF A CPU

Pros: This thing is a beast
Paired with a decent graphics card such as the R9 270X, I was able to get max (60) FPS on skyrim with ultra settings, a constant 100FPS on GTA san Andreas Multiplayer (CrazyBobs Server with 90+ players)
and 200+ FPS on Minecraft with highest graphics settings.

Don't let dual core fool you.. This thing is powerful and can be used for gaming on all the latest titles.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Ordered Battlefield 4 but have yet to play it. Have seen this processors little brother, the i3 4130 play BF4 in 1080p at 60+FPS with a decent graphics card so I'm expecting great things.
