Turbo Boost technology assists in faster speeds when conditions allow. Experience the convenience, versatility and raw power of Intel Xeon W3520 quad processors today!

  • newegg Quad-core Processing with Enhanced Smart Cache The Intel Xeon W3520 processor features four complete processor cores in one physical package. Significant performance headroom, especially for multi-threaded applications, helps boost system utilization through virtualization and application responsiveness. Its 4 x 256KB L2 cache and 8MB shared L3 cache with Enhanced Smart Cache technology minimize data latency and improves performance.
  • newegg Supports Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple “virtual” platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
  • newegg Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) Enhances next-generation IA-32 platforms with 64-bit addressability and related instructions, allowing flexibility for both 64-bit and 32-bit applications and operating systems.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns like a champ

Pros: Super easy to overclock with minimal voltages. As stated in a prior review, runs 4.2ghz @1.28v stable. Handles just about anything you can throw at it.

Cons: Costs more now than when I bought it a year ago.

Other Thoughts: Running this in an EVGA X58 Classified 760 with 6gb Corsair Dominator 1600, Sapphire Vapor-X 5870 and Corsair SSD. Cooled by air via Megahalems

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Overclocker

Pros: Great Overclocker and runs really cool with a good cooling setup.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I am still as impressed with the performance after 1 year as I was when I first installed.

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful

Pros: Very powerful and stable processor. I'm running six virtual Windows servers via VMWare ESXi and all servers run REALLY smooth.

Cons: None...

Other Thoughts: Motherboard is a Supermicro MBD-X8STE-O, running with 24 gigs of RAM made up of 6 x G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 modules. Hard drives are WD RE3 1TBs on a Adaptec 2258100-R raid controller configured with RAID5.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth it!

Pros: This is DEFINITELY worth the extra $$ over the I7 920. These chips overclock like no tomorrow. I managed 4.2ghz @ 1.28vcore stable. I couldn't even get close to that with my 920. These seem to overclock better in general compared to the desktop counterparts. Awesome chip. Stable and fast.

Cons: These run warmer than the I7 desktop chips. I can't explain why, But people with this same chip notice it runs warmer compared to the I7 920/930. But with a good cooler it really doesn't matter.

Other Thoughts: Awesome chip. Stable,Fast definitely worth the extra money.

4 out of 5 eggs4ghz all day!

Pros: Runs at 4ghz while not even breaking a sweat!

Cons: basically the exact same thing as the i7-920, although more expensive, but they are supposedly better binned.

Other Thoughts: Buy one and give it a shot, if it don't do what you want, sell it.

3 out of 5 eggsNOT FOR SERVERS!!!

Pros: It's a great core i7 substitute for normal pc's
Great overclocker

Cons: THIS IS NOT FOR SERVERS!!
Will not run on an INTEL 5500 chipset board!
IT makes me mad that they call it a server cpu because it's not.
The "W" stands for Workstation only

Other Thoughts: Intel recently made some changes with the 1366 cpu's and is making Xeon's that are not for servers. I made the mistake of ordering this "XEON" with my supermicro socket 1366 server board with the intel 5500 chipset. DEAD.....nothing. Called supermicro and they said that only the "55XX" series processors will work. Newegg also does not allow you to return cpu's, so I took this one in the shorts! Goodbye 320 bones....

5 out of 5 eggsOverclocks like a dream!

Pros: I was able to overclock this CPU to 4.65GHZ on Air. It's essentially the same CPU as an I7920 with D stepping but from what I can tell it seems to overclock even better. It's voltage requirement for overclocking is lower than and I7920 so you have more overhead to OC.

Cons: Your board needs to support it. I have mine paired with an Asrock x58 Extreme. I had to downgrade my bios to version 1.6 to hit the 4.65 range. Bios versions 1.7, 1.8, and 1.9 are much less stable at higher clock speeds. I only paid $118 for an open box MB. No need to throw money at an EVGA board.

Other Thoughts: It was worth the extra $20 bucks over the I7920 based on how easy it is to OC.

You're going to need a good cooler like a Noctua NF-P14 to get higher clocks.

5 out of 5 eggsBrilliant silicon

Pros: I bought this expensive CPU to build a Linux workstation for primarily scientific applications: quantum chemistry (GAMESS, TeraChem, CHARMM), grid computing (BOINC, Folding@Home), etc. My experience so far has been amazing. Without any effort, I overclocked it to 4.04 Ghz with a voltage of 1.275 V. Under full load (Prime 95, 8 threads), CoreTemp64 reports a maximum temperature of 72-74 C. For my normal day-to-day use, reflected more accurately by 100% CPU load, 100% CPU time in BOINC, the temperatures are always 70 or below. I have run Prime95 for 27 hours stable and I have been running BOINC 24/7 (100% load) for over a week now, without reboot or error.

Here is the rest of my system build:

Mobo: Gigabyte EX58-UD5
GPU: 1x Galaxy GTX 275
RAM: 6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333
PSU: Corsair-650TX 650W

In short: I highly recommend this CPU. I will update my review if I encounter any issues.

Cons: The total price of LGA 1366 builds is grotesque, this is the largest con. Other than that, everything about this CPU is amazing.

5 out of 5 eggsNice overclocker

Pros: Stock voltage got to 3.6-3.7ghz prime stable, running prime at 4.1ghz (195bclk) @ 1.3v since last night, no other voltages touched. ASUS P6x58D prem.

Cons: High heat, hitting mid 70s running prime, idles in the 30s, but that is to be expected.
