Pros: Seriously, do I even need to list them? I do? Okay....

- 6 Cores / 12 Threads of Serious Compute Power per CPU
- Very high stock clock speed
- OVERCLOCKABLE XEON via BCLK overclocking!!!
- Gets about 2.9x as many PPD in Folding@Home as my 3930K @ 5.1Ghz does!
- Huge amounts of on-die cache

I have two of these in an EVGA SR-2 board, which supports 2x LGA1366 Xeon CPU's, 12x DDR3 DIMM's, 8x SATA drives, and has 7x PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots (although will not all run at full speed).

I have my setup, which is used for HWBot overclocking/benchmarking competitions, Folding@Home, and video rendering, consisting of:
- SR-2
- 2x Xeon X5690 Overclocked to 4.62Ghz
- 48GB DDR3-1798 6-8-7-21
- 4x EVGA GTX580 Classified Ultra 3GB GPU's in SLI (OC'd to 1044core/4794mem)
- 2x Intel X25-E SLC-NAND 180GB SSD's in RAID0
- 3x Western Digital RE4 2TB HDD's in RAID0
- 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 3TB HDD's in RAID1
- CaseLabs Magnum TH10 Case with Extended Top and Pedestal
- Full CPU, GPU, and Motherboard Liquid Cooling (2x Watercool MO-RA3 Pro 1260 rads w 18x Bgears Blasters 140mm fans Push-Pull on each, 4x Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 560 rads with 140mm Bgears Push-Pull, 4x MCP35X Pumps, etc)

Cons: - Price
- Limited to BCLK for overclocking
- Can be very finicky with RAM

Other Thoughts: Absolutely awesome! There is no real downside, not if you're doing rendering, heavy photo/video editing, distributed computing, or competitive CPU benchmarking!

Looking forward to see what the Ivy Bridge-E Xeon CPU's have in store; I'm hoping they won't make the mistake of locking them down like the SNB-EP Xeon's are....

Pros: excellent the only processor that over all can beat the new 3970 and 3960 processor line of CPU and yes this baby rock with out missing a beat

Cons: none if u love speed get this CPU

Other Thoughts: i wish the price was cheaper i would go dual and kill any thing period a true super computer

Pros: Fast, fast, fast, lots of cores and cache

Cons: Yeah, they are warm, but I am water cooled with the radiator in another room. So no worries there.

Other Thoughts: Have this in an SR-2 Motherboard, and absolutely no complaints. Great gaming rig. Don't know what bfburkejr is whining about. I was a huge AMD fan too. But this thing rocks.

Pros: None {part 3 pros: the game programmers will soon be writing multi core programs I am sure...Faster, less expensive...less power...reliability...what else do you want??}

Cons: Price, Performance [part 2 pros: Ultimate, but they also offer a hardware card. Mine will run SATA 3 or SCSI 2 discs usinf the 6gb/s drivers. I have 4 2 TB Western Caviar Black Disks and will be getting 4 More, I use an Intel SSD for windows and certain programsand have 2 x 1 TB disk for the other programs etc that I bought when first setting it up. Who cares if the Xenon will go in an Apple? My computer will run circles around ANY Apple when finished. And for a fraction of the price. That is why companies like Cray are using AMD Interlagos chips in there top of the line super computers, more Flops per watt. Amd also has low wattage solutins of 1.6 GHz 8 core 65 watt processors, whicjmakes a HUGE diffeence when ther are 1/2 a million cpu's in a computer. Intel may make good mobile chips but AMD has the server/workstation sewn up right now. And for gaming they have releacsed am3+ socket 8 core chips at just under 4Ghz that are overclockable! Get your water coolers Boys and go wild...

Other Thoughts: Why on earth would anyone apyu this prie for this processor when you can get an AMD Interlagos that will run circles around it for MUCH less? I own a n ASUS KP-D16 Mother Boiard that will hold 2 AMD processors. I bought it right when it came on the market and got 2 8 core 2ghz processors over a year ago for under $300 each. They have released the second generation chips now called Interlagos (Bulldozer) for those who are lookinf fo maximum GHz the 8 core chips go up to 3GHz idle speed with maximum speeds of 3.3 for all cores and 3.6 for some cores. The board will hold 256GB od registered pc1333 RAM and 128 GB of PC 1600 the processor draws 115 watts I believe and is arounf $500. I plan to replace mine with the 16 core 2.6 GHz with all cores able to go to 3.o GHz and some able to go to 3.3 Ghz for $1000 each drawing 140 watts. The Board has a PIKE slot which is a proprietary RAID card slot and will accept several different types of cards I am usinf one that relies partly on Windows.

5 out of 5 eggsWas able to put two of these on a Mac Pro!

Pros: Fastest Xeon you can get right now. What else is there to say? Well, maybe these things:

1. I use this for rendering 3D images and I had a pair of two E5620s and with these new X5690s I was able to cut time in half. Floating point performance is great!

2. You can put these in a 2010 Mac Pro, if you are into getting hardware from Apple. That is something an Opteron can't do, at least in the official Apple hardware.

3. It is here, now, available. This is what you can buy right now, yes Sandy Bridge and Opterons will be coming any time now... or is it? I was hoping to buy these processors in Q1 2011, but it is Q3 right now... You may have to wait for the next wave of processors longer than Intel and AMD promise. You can get these TODAY!

4. Built like a tank. I have been using these CPUs under heavy loads and no issues what so ever. The Mac Pro has large heatsinks and around 4 fans (2 for the case around the processor area and one for each heatsink) temps under load: 35C but lo

Cons: Not the best bang for the buck compared to what is coming from AMD. For a better CPU dollar per dollar, you would have to wait a little for AMD's latest Opteron processors( with 12 cores each!) and then buy 4 and put in a 4 multiprocessor board! Probably a little more expensive overall, but the computing power you get per dollar is much better. And it will be faster than two of these.

Other Thoughts: I had seen more than one review that said that their processor boxes were damaged during transit (but the CPUs worked). My package arrived pristine. But I live in California, so not much distance for it to travel. And the packages are quite small and a little fragile. I can see that if not handled properly by the carrier, they could indeed be damaged.

I had the latest Mac Pro from 2010 with two 4-core Westmere processors at 2.4 GHz (E5620s). And I had seen many people in internet forums had upgraded their Westmere processors successfully in their Mac Pros. I changed my processors and it took me probably an hour, not more. It is really that easy.

I am happy with a Mac Pro with these processors, but to get all the juice out of these babies, it is probably a better idea to get a classified motherboard and overclock them. Then again, if you are worried for CPU power/dollar a 48-core latest Opteron 4-processor system makes more sense

Pros: I have two of these chips running on an SR-2 motherboard, liquid-cooled and overclocked at 4.5 GHz. (With 12 cores/24 threads, that's over 54 GHz of processing power in a single box. I've run animation renders that keep them pegged at 100% for hours or even days on end without a flicker of system instability or any concerns about overheating.

Crazy fast.

Cons: Crazy expensive.

Pros: What else can I say, these are the fasted processors on the consumer market. I'm running two of them on the eVGA SR-2 motherboard. Blazing fast! 24 cores, 24MB cache. Simply couldn't ask for more insane performance.

Cons: These processors don't come with heat syncs, so keep that in mind. It wasn't clear to me during the check-out process that they didn't have heat syncs either.

Pros: Fastest non-enterprise-level CPU for multi-processor setups.

Cons: Price?

Other Thoughts: There's not much to say. It's really fast. I have them in a dual-processor server. Blazes through all Windows 2008 tasks so far.

This is the fastest processor currently available that's geared towards standalone servers and supports multi-CPU configurations.

It may seem expensive, but I was able to build my own Supermicro-based server with two of these top-of-the-line processors for the same price HP charges for a ProLiant with much lower model processors.

I've heard they run hot, but I paired these with two Noctua NH-U12P SE2 coolers my temps run between 18C idle to 50C on load in an air conditioned room.

PS. If you're thinking of using my cooler config, you'll need to pick up four M3 20mm screws per CPU from your hardware store to install those coolers on Xeons. And they are just slightly too tall for a 4U case, but only the tips of the heat pipes poke the side panel. I'll be drilling holes to let them poke through but for now I leave the side panel off.

Pros: Screaming fast, 7.8 windows experience.

Cons: HOT, HOT, ...........HOT!!!!!!!!! 139watts hot. Need a well ventilated room.

Pricey, pricey, yeah pricey!

Other Thoughts: They do well with Corsair H50. Idle at room temperature, full load 80C or less. The 80 was on one core, and the room temperature had risen to 30C.
