5 out of 5 eggsFast and reliable

Pros: Steady. Fast. Reliable.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I just needed something that was going to run. Not to overclock or anything. This is the heart of my music editing system, so I just needed reliability.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: Great cpu runs cool and onboard video is good enough.
Speeds through tasks without breaking a sweat.

Cons: Didn't write this review for me.

Other Thoughts: To echo a previous review, if you don't know what you are talking about please don't leave a review when its obviously your lack of technical knowledge and not the product at fault.
PCs are not lego blocks you can't just mash different parts together. Do a little research before putting hundreds of dollars worth of silicone together.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good Price - Only marginally more expensive than the i7 3770 (same performance but includes ECC)

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Bundled this with a P8C WS and Kingston DDR3 1600 ECC memory in 8GB DIMMs. Built two identical machines with this configuration, both have been rock solid stable.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and cool

Pros: This processor can take quite a load and still run cool. Burn in on the build only took the proc temp into the 70's with the stock fan.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: For an inexpensive but powerful server this is an excellent choice.

4 out of 5 eggsfor Lenovo E31 Thinkstation

Pros: For my needs I'm happy at the performance increase over my old system, a Q6600 processor.

Cons: Naturally Xeons are more expensive than i-series.

Other Thoughts: I will be using this for video editing in a stand alone software only tower using Avid Media Composer 6 and video encoding with Sorenson Squeeze. So far both programs show no problems.

I found this to be roughly 3x faster at encoding than my Q6600, I thought it'd be a little faster according to CPU Benchmark.

I'm stating that this chip installed without issues on my new Lenovo E31 Thinkstation tower. I did not use the stock fan as the installed fan was fine (and probably quieter). I scraped off the grease that came with the new fan and pasted it on the old fan.

The chipset is a single processor Intel c216, an entry-level workstation chipset. At the moment I'm having problems figuring out ECC RAM for the setup. Lenovo tech support helped me understand what ram to choose from. In my situation I needed to look for uDIMM memory, and not rDIMM memory. I will be posting a review on the Intel c216 Motherboard to make sure people don't make the same mistake I did.

5 out of 5 eggsNot a CPU fault..

Pros: I am sorry, it is not the fault of the CPU that it is not supported by your motherboard (regardless of brand).
CPU support is a chipset and bios issue with the motherboard. It is not a quality issue, defect, or design flaw of the processor.

If you feel it is necessary to criticize/rate your experience with this cpu it would be to poorly rate your motherboard - or perhaps reduce the rating of your technical knowledge to accurately reflect its flaws...

Cons: Being subjected to the ratings and reviews of inexperience and knowledge.

3 out of 5 eggsCaution if using Intel motherboards

Pros: Intel

Cons: compatibility

Other Thoughts: Be careful if you're using Intel motherboards and the 'V2' versions of Ivy Bridge processors. I tried using this with the Intel S1200BTL and discovered that it didn't work. After reading the fine print on the Intel website, I found the following blurb:

"Support for these processors requires board revision S1200BTL PBA E98681-352 or higher, S1200BTS E98683-352 or higher, BIOS revision 35 or later. All systems with board revisions before the above PBA#'s do not support these processors"

In other words, you apparently have to use the S1200BTLR ("R" stands for refresh?) or the S1200BTSR. By the way, "these" processors include the following:

E3-1280V2
E3-1270V2
E3-1275V2
E3-1240V2
E3-1245V2
E3-1230V2
E3-1220V2
E3-1225V2
E3-1220LV2
