5 out of 5 eggsThis processor is absolutely awesome

Pros: *GREAT* value when compared to desktop processors (e.g. i7-3770K). Mostly got it for the ECC compatibility and hyperthreading. Needed ECC for my server. Got a lot of power along with it!

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: I am using this processor with a Supermicro X9SCL-F-O to host a ESXi 6 server and it is simply wicked. My Windows 8.1 development environment VM scored over 10,000 with 4 cores and 8GB ram allocated to it -- almost as high as my "bare metal" desktop with an i5-3570K and 8GB ram (which scored 11,500). Not bad for a VM, and certainly not bad for using only HALF my server's resources!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: - Price
- Multi-threading performance
- Compatibility
- Power consumption

Cons: - Fully Locked Multiplier
- No iGPU (not really a con)

Other Thoughts: Replaced my 3570k that Ran 4.7Ghz with this Xeon because I needed the Hyper-threading. So far the Xeon outperforms the unlocked i5 in just about everything, with the exception of any software that doesn't take advantage of more than 4 threads, but even then the experience is smoother if multi-tasking lots of programs.

I would highly recommend this CPU for just about any task, as long as it stays significantly cheaper than the i7's.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good CPU

Pros: This CPU has lasted me for the past 2 and a half years, it performs amazing, I use it for all kinds of gaming, programming, etc. I've never had an issue with the processor itself. At the time I purchased this the only difference was the fact that this processor does not include on board graphics (most server processors don't) the Ivy bridge is a nice addition, it runs quiet, and cool. I saved $100 at the time on purchase compared to the latest desktop models. I suggest this or even the newer version processors for anyone wanting an Intel chip but not wanting to spend to much on it.

Cons: None so far
(2 and a half years)

Other Thoughts: If you want something with the power and stability of Intel, but don't want an overpriced i7 I suggest the Xeon, it's quad core, it's quick, and it functions just as good. Sure you can't really overclock it, or you lack an on board video but if your like me, I put all of that into my expensive graphics card.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: Powerful

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: If you are installing into an older Supermicro, the BIOS will have to be updated, which will require an older CPU. Luckily I had a 1230-v1.

5 out of 5 eggsOustanding performance at a great price!

Pros: -Runs cold
-Super fast
-Extremely reliable
-i7 performance without the price tag

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to replace the i3-3220 in my NAS. The difference is night and day. I do a lot of audio and video converting and this converts the files without even breaking a sweat in half the time of the i3!. It runs extremely cool with the stock heatsink as well, so no need for a large bulky aftermarket cooler.

4 out of 5 eggsXEON E3-1230V2

Pros: Best choice for building a first or upgrade Ivy Bridge based workstation. Price of unit was the determining factor. At $100 less than a i7-3770, but has all the toys - less 100 mhz. And a few more instructions, too. If BIOS is set correctly, this unit will ramp up 2 cores to 3.7GHZ or all 4 to 3.5 GHZ, then idle back down to 1.6 GHZ in a "not so busy" state, idling at just 12 watts! Stock cooler works just fine even when benchmarking some games. Highest temp was 65c after 10 minutes stress test. Normal work like email, word docs, spreadsheets, etc. just fly. Google maps, animated weather maps, etc. also zip along. No hesitation. Runs WEI @7.7. Running on a MSI Z77A-G43 MB. Make sure your MB supports XEON. Absolutely the best bang for your buck, and its $5 less now than when I bought it. Thank you, Newegg!

Cons: Not really a CON, but, make no mistake. If you just replace your current CPU with this unit, you MUST reload your O/S. Best if your doing a new/fresh build.

Other Thoughts: Just do it. Super power for cheap!

5 out of 5 eggsVery happy with this CPU

Pros: I order this board for my new FreeNAS build, it comes highly rated on their forums, and for good reason.

- Strong and efficient CPU, with plenty of processing power
- Good price to performance ratio
- Low TDP
- Good OEM heatsink and fan

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: There is a good reason this has a 5 star rating and everyone leaves good reviews.

Paired this with:
SUPERMICRO X9SCM-F
Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) CT2KIT102472BD160B

5 out of 5 eggsGaming BEAST

Pros: Just as fast as my Haswel i7 stock, but lower TDP. AND CHEAPER! I went with this ivybridge model as it was faster than the haswel ones with the turbo clock. You can over clock them a little bit via the bus, but don't expect to get too much out of it. I got mine up to 3.9ghz, was trying to go for 4 but it just wasn't gonna happen. Still my fire strike score with 2 290X cards is over 15000. Not bad at all for a 200 some dollar CPU.

Cons: Locked multiplier, but meh

Other Thoughts: I wasn't sure about Xeon for gaming, but if you can live without overclocking your cpu, this thing FLYS at stock speeds. and the Case badge is just super sick seeing XEON, specially in CPU-Z

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: Don't have much to say that hasn't been said already, this is a fantastic CPU. Power consumption and heat are low, and speed is high. Using it for a FreeBSD box now and about to buy a second for a new Windows Server box.

Cons: None.
