Other Thoughts: Bought this for my wifes mini itx build. Built around the Corsair Graphite 380T with an ASRock Z97 itx motherboard and she loves it!
Probably the last chip she'll buy for years.

Cons: It's not capable of overclocking, but if you are buying this processor you already know that.

Other Thoughts: To be honest i had my fill of overclocking with my FX8320 and just wanted a drop in and go processor. This has been a great upgrade, it is noticeably faster in many games, video editing, etc... I was contemplating upgrading to skylake and DDR4 but and 8 thread processor is very expensive on skylake right now and the xeon skylake do not work on consumer motherboards currenty making that platform very expensinve. I also had plenty of DDR3 laying around and decided to put it to use. All in all i am very happy with the 1231v3, it performs like a 4770 and is only slighty slower than the newest generation of processors. Its a good budget buy for people who need eight threads.

Pros: I don't think the value of this particular processor can be overestimated, for the present time anyway. And that's why I wonder if I went overboard or not. The way I see it this is my way of "futureproofing" my system. I have two different Z87 boards to run them on (ASRock and Gigabyte), a load of PC-2400 (low voltage of course), 7TB of Seagate HHD and not one but TWO Samsung 850 EVO's. Windows 7 is so fast I never would have believed it and I don't intend on migrating to 10, ever. Both boards have tons of SATA 3 and USB 3, basically all the extensions I could ever want. I even added 2 USB 3 and two SATA 3 ports via the PCI 1x slots. I can add more real estate whenever I want.

Cons: But did I go overboard or miscalculate or just put too many eggs in one basket? Afterall, Intel Gen 6 and 7 will run on DDR4 and the new M2 SSD platforms and storage are getting cheaper all the time. What do you guys and gals think?

Other Thoughts: Technology is going to improve but its the price of things that gets me. This setup has cost me over $1000 now, including a new vidcard (the XFX R9-280A), Corsair HX850 PSU and 550D case to go with it. I figure I never know when I'll have the money to spend again so I just went all out, for me that is. I figure I could get 10 years out of this, in which case the value of this setup becomes like a real investment.

Pros: This things a monster!
3 months of hard game used, recording/streaming and rendering and I've still not been able to stutter or slow this thing down!

Cons: Doesn't have any built video card.
If your gaming it doesn't matter at all, but if you want a lot of monitors you cant use it vs a i7.

Pros: Got this for my first build. Mainly use my desktop for VM's, programming, etc. This CPU works amazing for VM's.

Cons: Absolutely nothing. :)

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend, may even get another one for my next build next month.

Other Thoughts: Welcome to the Xeon collective. Prepare to be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Pros: Non-Mainstream, so when your friends ask you "What processor is in that thing?" you can proudly say "A Xeon." and then kick their behinds in the better multi-coreness compared to the Core i5/i7

Cons: Wish the stock cooler came with better Thermal paste, but they chunk the cpu's out by the thousands, so it's not really a huge deal.

Other Thoughts: Would buy again

Pros: i7 like performance for a cheaper price.

Cons: Can't overclock but I've felt no need for that yet.

Pros: The CPU works great, it has the speeds of an i7 at a much cheaper cost.

Cons: Not Free, please fix
