5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Unlocked and easily overclockable.
Runs a lot cooler, uses less power, and performs better than my older workstation processors (Intel Xeon based on Clovertown/LGA 771).

Cons: Most people building with this processor will probably never really use the integrated GPU, but it makes it more flexible to use.
One core seems to run 4-6 C hotter than the others, but nothing so terrible that it noticeably hinders performance.

Other Thoughts: Having finally upgraded hardware after quite a few years, it would seem this processor was the perfect upgrade for the price/performance. A great balanced processor for work and play, it has enough single core power to run non-multicore optimized programs but has 8 threaded cores to handle workstation level tasks with relative ease.

As I am relatively new to overclocking, I took things modest at first. I was able to achieve an overclock of 4.7GHz at 1.225V on air that was stable for the time I was testing, but ran a bit warm for my comfort. I currently keep it manually clocked at 4.4GHz and 1.1V and haven't had any noticeable issues during any amount of gaming, video capture, or rendering that I have done thus far.

My Rig:
Case: Corsair Carbide Series 500R Black
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
MB: Gigabyte GA-G1.Sniper Z97
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600
Video: MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC 4GB
PSU: EVGA 220-GS-0550-V1 550W 80 Plus Gold
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB x2 in RAID 0
HDD: WD Black 1TB - WD1003FZEX
Optical: LG Blu-ray with DVD+-R

4 out of 5 eggsFAST but HOT

Pros: Lightning fast. paired with an SSD it boots win 7 in 12 seconds. paired up with my GTX970 I can play BF4 in 1080p on ultra settings at 120fps! absolutely no issues performace-wise

Cons: this thing gets waaay too hot! intel has to lose an egg for this, I know its 4.0ghz but at idle with the stock cooler I was hitting 50C and under full load stress testing I had to cancel the test after 30 seconds as the temps were approaching 100C! I replaced the stock cooler with a Cooler Master hyper 212 evo and no it idles between 35-40C and under full load on a 5 min stress test the hottest it gets is 75C but that's still hotter than I like.

Other Thoughts: great performance but for the price Intel really needs to figure out how to cool this thing better, I would not use the stock cooler if you get this CPU, your already spending over $300 so just spend extra and get a cooler that will keep you from frying this thing.

4 out of 5 eggsG1.Sniper Z97

Pros: Works as intended thus-far. Have only had it up and running a few days. The thing is very solid (my niece even knocked it off the table when it was out of the box... I hope that doesn't hurt me in the long-run. I almost **** my britches....)

Cons: The diagnostic LED. Apparently Gigabyte is using an old, yet proven built-in diagnostic chip on newer boards. The thing does said diagnostics during POST and then stops (the code display, not the boot) at the A0 code which references a search for an IDE component.... Well, the thing doesn't even support IDE. I hate seeing a code that doesn't matter. That is an extra light that I don't want to see. It is a known problem on many Gigabyte boards and does not affect anything in the end-run. I'm just being picky.

5 out of 5 eggsI can't get over 12% usage

Pros: I tried installing everything I had to throw at the machine at once after a fresh install. 12% usage. Too strong? I think not! Read instructions and you're set!

Worth EVERY penny.

Cons: NONE, BUY AS MANY AS YOU FIT INTO YOUR PC! :3

5 out of 5 eggsBeast CPU

Pros: Great consumer grade cpu for all around everything, editing, gaming, streaming it does it all! Glad I made the switch from an AMD FX 8359 to this. With it's low tdp of 80w compared to the amd's 125w it runs really cool with my h105 aio cooler overclocked with my Asus Maximus Hero VII board @ 4.6ghz. I would even get this chip instead of waiting for the skylake 6700k as that has higher tdp, lower Turbo boost, and just ddr4 compatibility <shear 7-11% performance boost over 4790k based on leaked rumored benchmarks)

Cons: Nothing! Amazing cpu!

5 out of 5 eggsSO HAPPY WITH THIS

Pros: I have upgraded from a Amd 4100fx. The I7 is so much better and now it can finally put my gpu to the test. I have gained about 50-70 fps on Battlefield 4 and I am so happy.

Cons: NONE WHATSOEVER.

Other Thoughts: My computer is so much faster and better now. 10/10

5 out of 5 eggsGreat processor

Pros: This is by far the best processor I have ever owned. Undervolts fairly well. Real world performance is slightly better than the AMD 8350 I upgraded from, and in benchmarks it blows it away.

Cons: Price and heat. I have a friend that works at Intel, and therefore know what their cost is to make these things. They could sell them much cheaper and still make a profit. Also heat. All i7's seem to run hot. This one is no exception. Although it's better than the 4770k in terms of thermal dissipation (stock), it is still a friggin heater. I had to undervolt the thing just to keep it cool under load (around 70C @ 1.99v @ stock clocks and turbo)

Other Thoughts: Benchmark CPU scores:
3dMark03 -
Cpu test 1: 482.0 fps
Cpu test 2: 95.5 fps

3dMark Vantage -
Cpu test 1: 4241.6 ops
Cpu test 2: 41.60 ops

Cinebench 11.5 -
Cpu: 9.71
Cpu (single core): 1.92

Cinebench R15 -
Cpu: 1096
Cpu (single core):

All benchmarks were performed on Windows 8.1 Enterprise. The stock clock of 4.0ghz with 4.2ghz turbo @ 1.99v was used for all tests.
