4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Price to Performance

Pros: Excellent performance in gaming applications, as well as in doing compression work.

Good Price for the speed

Sufficient Cooling solution included

Cons: Still kind of pricey

Speaking of cooling this processor can get hot during maximum use. I peaked my core temps at 97 C when doing some heavy compression work that tied up the CPU for a few minutes. It held at 97 so didn't throttle but if I were going to any kind of serious overclocking I would 100% invest in a water cooling solution.

5 out of 5 eggsDevilsCanyon

Pros: I have owned this CPU for less than a month and in this time I have come to the realization I have been missing out on performance. My home machine used to consist of a 1366 960x with 12 gb of 1600 ram. My new system out performs with the 4790k and 32 gb of ram with a couple of r9 290's in xfire. Despite the 960x havingmore cores and threads the optimization of devils canyon blows it out of the water.

Cons: Intels stock heatsink.... SMH

2 out of 5 eggsworks when it doesn't cook

Pros: very fast, easy install decent price for performance.

Cons: as stated it works good when it isn't cooking, idle temps are normal no complaints their. however once a load is even barely put on the processor it sky rockets. as an example of this was, while idling at 35C room temp was about 65F, after attempting to run a benchmark (xtu) to compare results from my M14X i7 the core went from 35C to over 90C in less than 10 seconds needless to say i immediately ended the bench with a max temp of 94C way hotter than this core should even make it even after 10 minutes of benching on a Cpu that is NOT even over clocked. when i ended the bench the cpu cooled down to about 40c in about 15 seconds and then back to the regular idle temp after about a minute. now typically the main cause of this would be improper installation of the heat sink causing over heating. quite frankly i would have been quite happy if it was, just in fact an improperly installed heat sink. which it was not. ok so being as it over heats just trying to bench it i figured ok should handle better than my previous computer so i decided to play unity a fairly demanding game to test out my new build . evidently that was a bad idea after about 5 minutes of game play i was again well into the high 90cs this time after shutting down the game the CPU did not cool and i had to shut down the computer for risk of damage to not only cpu but other heat sensitive components... all that being said i now have an 1,100$ paper weight, but at least its good at something.

Other Thoughts: ordered a liquid cooling system which i truly hope will make the temps manageable/

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Love this Cpu, pretty much handles anything i throw at it, first time i went intel ever, but im satisfied, no complains.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I recomend others to get this, i got it mainly cause of its high single core performance, =) for some games, but no regrets.
