5 out of 5 eggswow

Pros: All I can say is this thing is blazing fast. I replaced a 2600K and couldn't be happier. Even on stock clocks I'm getting over 17000 in Geekbench.

Cons: A little bit expensive yet. I had a discount code so that helped a bit though.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel i7-4790k

Pros: -Low temps
-Fast
-Easy install

Going from a very old AMD Dual-Core to this is such a noticeable difference, everything is fast, smoother and even for a first time builder it gave me no issues. Bought this as part of a bundle with a MSI Z97M and couldn't be happier with it.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: I am able to 4.8Ghz at 1.4v Corsair H100 @ 84c with prime
Not too bad. Its stable. Cool and clocks better than my i7 3770K. I'm using a Gigabyte Z97X Gaming G1

Cons: Absolutely none. It wont quite hit 5.0 but its a good chip

Other Thoughts: This really is what the 4770K should have been. But better late then never. Say goodbye to AMD. There is just no comparison. All benches this chip shines when its overclocked

5 out of 5 eggsBlazing Fast and Blazing Hot (UPDATED REVIEW)

Pros: --

Cons: --

Other Thoughts: In a previous review, I made it sound like this processor was at fault for the extreme temps I saw out of the box.

After doing some further research, I have figured out why, and it is NOT actually the processor's fault (or my cooling setup, for that matter).

For anyone buying this processor, please read on. This could save you some serious headaches and temp issues.

What I found is that the automatic voltage settings on my motherboard (Asus Maximus VII Hero) were setting the voltage much, much higher than it needed to be, generating excessive heat. By setting the voltage mode to 'Adaptive' instead of 'Auto', and then lowering the max voltage using the offset values, I can achieve temps 10-25C cooler (depending on the kind of stress test) than before.

I will not provide a full guide for achieving this within this post, but I really hope this tip comes in handy for anyone struggling with temperatures on this processor. Guides for undervolting processors / Haswell processors can be found all over the internet, so have a look around.

4 out of 5 eggsGet a better cooler

Pros: Great speed, price when it's on sale, unlocked for easy overclocking

Cons: Heating issues out of the box

Other Thoughts: So I picked this guy up for my gaming machine and I have to say I am impressed with it's performance. The only downside to it is when used with the stock fan the idle temp was 79. It even shut down my computer due to overheating when I tried to install Windows. Picked up an after market cooler for better performance and the temp went down to a more reasonable 37. Not a big deal to pick up the better cooling device if you are going to overclock it anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsTOO FAST

Pros: Powerful, fast, worth the price.

Cons: Loads too fast for me to get into the bios settings if I'm not paying enough attention.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome processor

Pros: awesome speeds and it automatically overclocked to 4.4ghz at 1.2 volts

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: when i first installed it i ran stress test with prime 95 and temps went over 100C then after research i realized you are not suppose to use prime 95 with haswell cpus! so if your buying this product use adata64 NOT prime 95 you could damage your cpu!

5 out of 5 eggsSuch an upgrade from AMD FX Visehera

Pros: 18 months ago I bought a Visehera 8350 AMD 4.0 Ghz cpu and an AsRock Extreme 9 Mobo for this computer. My goal was to build a computer to handle streaming high level (D1+) League of Legends/SC2. This was (I believe) the best AMD cpu on the market at that time. I could not stream past 720p with the highest settings on either game, as both games are more cpu intensive then graphics wise. Even overclocked to 4.8ghz, the max I could go without raising heat through my water cooler, I could not sustain 1080p with dropping fps to 30 in high processing areas (Teamfights in league, or 200 supply army clashes in sc2).

Since I swapped the Mobo and Cpu from Asrock Extreme 9 and AMD Visehera 4.0ghz piledriver (8x), that isn't even close to an issue. It seriously blows AMD's old flagship out of the water. It isn't even comparable.

I do not even have this overclocked yet, as I just have no need. 1080p SC2/League of Legends with 540p webcam, music, streaming video on second monitor, etc, I can still run both games on high settings with 200-300 fps if I turn v-sync off.

The one time I did overclock, I turned it to 4.3 just to see how it would perform. I received 400 fps in both games, and no discernible temperature increase. Just to test it, I downloaded BF 3 on ultra and streamed, consistent 120+ FPS even streaming. (Although, even on the old setup, BF3 wasn't really a problem, as this game is more GPU intensive then CPU like league or SC2.)

I just have no need to overclock right now as I am not doing 3d modeling or anything that cpu intensive. I'm just using it for gaming purposes atm.

Cons: It is pricey. For just a good mobo combo with this processor + an MSI board (Which i highly suggest, this MSI board is amazing), you can buy a budget pre-built computer. ($500-$600 ish)

Other Thoughts: Worth every penny

Probably will not buy another AMD cpu in my lifetime.

5 out of 5 eggs4.0

Pros: Starting off at 4.0 ghz is any overclockers dream. Always wanted to try a processor with ht and I'm not disappointed. This cpu has a lot of potential. At 4.5 ghz it was a bit faster than my i5 3570k at 4.8 ghz (liquid cooled). However, these are 2 different cpus so I believe at 4.5/4.6 ghz i7 4790k could be a definite upgrade for some. I tried 4.8 ghz but didn't see any huge improvements over 4.6. Coupled with the underdog evga z97 ftw, it's not a bad deal.

Cons: None so far.
