5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Love this CPU. Upgraded from an FX-6300 last fall and it made a huge difference. No bottlenecks in modern games unless in extremely unoptimized situations, like AC cities and GW2 zergs.

Cons: No hyperthreading

Other Thoughts: Haven't tried overclocking yet, but with my Azza Solano 1000R case and stock cooler, I haven't seen temps go higher than 62C, even in very CPU-intensive games.

5 out of 5 eggsOh my lanta

Pros: Fast
Good thermal with the redesign in devils canyon
Efficient with its turbo clock without ever lagging behind the curve

Cons: Absolutely none

Other Thoughts: It's no i7 so obviously no hyperthreading where it counts such as rendering, BUT, for gaming, this thing is insane. Coming from an AMD Phenom II X4 965 which I've ran into the ground since 2009 and having a GTX 970 SSC with above marginal performance in FPS, it is amazing just how much my GPU was being held back.

Now in most modern titles where even with the card I'd have to keep my settings on medium to high, can just now full out Ultra on anything and it performs beautifully. Half the things I throw at the CPU it doesn't even stress about taking the jobs in stride.

I'm incredibly happy with this purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsThe gamer's choice

Pros: 1. Runs ridiculously cool under H100i GTX

2. Great performance in benchmarks/games

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I put this cpu under a Corsair H100i GTX with the stock TIM and installed the fans the way Corsair recommends(as intake, no push/pull). Average idle temp at stock clocks is 25c. Highest recorded temp after several hours of Dirt Rally was 42c.

My system:

Mobo: MSI Gaming 5 z97
Cpu: i5 4690k
Gpu: XFX DD R9 290
Ram: HyperX Fury Black series (16gb)
Psu: Rosewill Photon 1050
Aio: Corsair H100i GTX
Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (w/ window)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: CPU does exactly what it promises, easily OC'd to 4.2ghz, could have pushed it further but is very capable of destroying all my games at high settings now.

Cons: Other than price, the only con for me was the heatsink, but I didn't buy it for the heatsink.

Other Thoughts: If you're buying a K CPU you probably want to OC it, if this is the case, tack on the price of a watercooling or good aftermarket heatsink. I paired it with a coolermaster hyper 212, and couldn't be happier. Idle is about 28C, and under load while compressing video, or playing Battlefield 4, and Guild Wars 2 both on high settings it never goes over 45C.

5 out of 5 eggsFast CPU

Pros: Fast even without overclocking. But who buys this processor without overclocking it? Slightly OCed it to 4.2 GHz and it tops out around 63C with a Hyper 212 EVO cooler. Idles at 800MHz and about 28C. My Asrock Z97 Extreme6 is the easiest board I have ever overclocked

Cons: Stock fan is almost pointless. They shouldn't even bother shipping it with this processor. Temperatures on full load at stock speeds dropped from 72C to 50C with a Hyper 212 EVO cooler. I actually ended up putting the heatsink on my old i3 2120 and it keeps that under 50C with pretty much no airflow.

Other Thoughts: This processor booted up at the optimized 4.6 GHz OC for my motherboard but was hitting 80C during Intel Burn Test which is a little too high for me. Maybe I can bump up the OC during the Winter. Paired this processor with a GTX 970 and I am playing every game I own at max on my 1080p 42" TV.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: It is Intel. It has 4 cores. It is OC unlocked. Mine clocks to 4.3gHz (stable) with Corsair i50 water cooling and rarely hits 80C @ ambient 72C.

Cons: I haven't overclocked a CPU in nearly ten years. Things have changed dramatically. the Intel XTU software makes it a breeze, even though there is a bit of a learning curve.

Other Thoughts: I haven't really overclocked a CPU in years. I got this little gem just to play around with. Actually, I gave my kid my i74790 and took this as he does not OC. I have hammered on this i5 for over a week now and it just keeps on keepin' on.

4 out of 5 eggsI don't see any advantage to Intel over AMD, but AMD had a few over Intel.

Pros: My Intel Motherboard does look nicer than my AMD.
Today's processors are way overpowered so this will work, but it is not a cost effective way to do ANYTHING.
I haven't had any issues with it (but I haven't had any issues with the 4 OCd AMD FX CPUs either).

Cons: $230 CPU pretty much required at least a $140 Motherboard.
More expensive than AMD - I know the manufacturing process Intel uses is a lot cooler, and on paper seems way better, but it doesn't show at all.
It claims efficiency, but I call it underpowered - does not stand up to a 3 year old $100 cheaper AMD FX CPU.
Using less power you'd think it'd run cooler, but it does not.
Only one full speed PCI-X lane so crossfiring isn't as good as it should be - using more than one PCIx lane cuts the bandiwidth in half, this includes PCIx1 slots - So i had to upgrade my 270Xs to a 290.
Some of the money I paid goes to the virtually useless GPU.

Other Thoughts: Without a doubt, this CPU sends me back to AMD, whom I always considered a budget option, but now I see that they are BETTER nowadays. Intel spent too much time being king and got fat and lazy, now they need to make like Louis and get their head cut off.
