4 out of 5 eggsGood Value/ But not for gaming

Pros: I purchased this to get back into overclocking with a more modern processor but not risk a more expensive option. This processor is an overclocking monster I had a stable overclock to 4.5 GHz at 1.25v the first day and it is still running.

Cons: Downsides? Only dual core and non-hyperthreaded. So many games that scale to more than 2 threads are still held back. Overall very happy though.

Other Thoughts: I am probably happy with my purchase because I didn't expect it to be the greatest gaming processor. If you are going to better game performance I recommend going with at least a 4 core I5 or better even if you give up the overclocking by going with a non-K 1150 processor. It holds back my MSI GTX-970 card it just can't feed it enough info for smooth play at high settings in the new games.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth it

Pros: At only 20$ more than the celeron cpu, this processing is definitely worth it. And the low power consumption makes it even better

87$, Pentium G3258 @ 4001 bench (
64$, celeron G1840 @ 2975 bench

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsBaby can run

Pros: -Unlocked
-Got it overclocked to 4.6Ghz @ 1.385v

Cons: -None (its just a dual-core no need for high expectations)

Other Thoughts: This thing screams speed in single threaded tasks (pretty much old games and emulators). I can run Zone of Enders on PCX2 @ 60fps with this baby clocked to 4.6Ghz (game is horrendous to run on weak IPC cpus). Played counter strike @ 60 fps unlike a phenom ii x4 965 @ 3.5Ghz.

Pretty much any game that doesn't take a horrendous hit in fps from not having enough cores is going to be great as the IPC is amazing. I downgraded to a Phenom II x4 965 and now I regret it due to its ipc being low (traded system to brother since he gamed much more than me).

Honestly this processor was a just a placeholder for an i7 broadwell (ikr), but the G3258 was just enough for me to not upgrade.

5 out of 5 eggsBest value for low end intel

Pros: Price (low)

Single core performance is high (should be with only 2 cores)

Unlocked (overclockable)

Stays cool, even when overclocked on stock cooler

Low power consumption

Cons: None really, its the little cpu that could

Other Thoughts: great for entry level pc gaming (with gpu obviously) and general use, easy for new overclockers

5 out of 5 eggsIntel and M$ being sneaky

Pros: Cheap and powerful enough for what I need.

Cons: Has issues upgrading to Windows 10 on motherboards that support "Non Z Overclocking". Intel and Microsoft seemed to have teamed up to stop Windows 10 from installing motherboards with this option. I had to update the bios on a Asrock H97M Pro4 to version Bios v2.0 which dropped the Non Z Overclocking option in order for Windows 10 Pro to upgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro. I did not have to disable a core for it to upgrade though.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbeatable value.

Pros: I have two of these; clocked both straight to 4.3 GHz out of the box (1.2v). With the small stock cooler, stays around 60C under load while almost completely silent.

Wipes the floor with AMD processors on any dual threaded apps and even some quad threaded apps. Competes directly with i5's in appropate programs.

Without a doubt one of the best valued CPUs ever made.

Cons: None whatsoever. I would have preferred 4 cores or hyper-threading, obviously!

Other Thoughts: Most non-Z boards will overclock this CPU. H81, 87, 97, etc. Make sure you do some research before you purchase a board! BiOS update might be necessary.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat processor, but...

Pros: It's a great budget processor that you can find for fairly cheap, and it can overclock! 5 stars intel would highly recommend it to everyone! That is except....

Cons: I just spent the past 8 hours trying to get Windows 10 to install, because I finally got a sad so I wouldn't have to install it twice. I start the update vet an error message try it again and I get an error message write it down "0xC1900101-0x20017" I search the message, and read that it's the broadcom WiFi card I have i try to uninstall the driverdriver, disable it and even took it out and it still didn't work. Then I read that error code can also be having two memory sticks, so I take one out and still no success, getting a little discouraged when I remember seeing a guy with a g3258 said he was getting the same error. I then search "g3258 windows 10 problem" and you have to disable a core to get it to install. I do that and what do you know it works, and now its a single core processor... Just telling you if your plan is to get Windows 10 youll bvet half the processor... This isn't anything on Intel they made a great product its more Microsoft only fixing certain things, and some of the Microsoft employee comments sound like they don't want to have to see why its not working they want you to figure it out and send in the fix...

Other Thoughts: My specs
Asrock Z97e-itx
G3258 (probably will get a i5 sooner then I thought I would have to)
2 Silicone Power s60
1 Seagate 1tb hard drive
R7 250 (the upgrade but instead I need a processor...)
Evga 600b (total over kill)

Hope if I get Intel involved Microsoft will do some thing......

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Chip for what it is.

Pros: I've had this chip running at 4.3 GHz since the day I bought it. Running exotic water cooling. I have had no issues. So easy a cave man can do it. I have also owned an i5 4670k that totally just blows this out of the water. I got this to save energy , even overclocked it uses less energy than the i5 4670k I had. I was also able to run two HD 6970 video cards in crossfire with 2666 ddr3, two ssd's in R.A.I.D. 0 . I really want the new Broadwell in this despite it being a dead end chip. Had hoped this would hold me off until than.

Cons: Sucks that if I want to spend less on a chip that I will need to buy a new 1151 motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsFun on a bun.

Pros: Great as a place-holder or low-usage scenario.
Good enough to do most games at 1080p.
Overclocking is cake these days.
Running 4.0ghz on stock cooler at 54 c.

Cons: Not for the performance/enthusiast crowd. Expect it to hang up playing Crysis 3 with everything turned up. Doi.
Not friendly with Windows, not really a con.

Other Thoughts: Running with a GTX 750ti. Dual boot with Windows 7 and Linux Rafaela.

5 out of 5 eggsA Near Perfect Low Budget CPU

Pros: -Inexpensive
-Surprisingly powerful
-Low TDP

Cons: -Doesn't stay as cool as I would like.

Other Thoughts: I've had a great experience with this CPU. I have yet to see anything I throw at this thing bring both cores to 100% utilization. The closest thing I saw was something along the lines of 100% on one core and 70% on another. This was essentially me trying to more or less stress test it by maxing out the settings on a CPU heavy game compared to what I usually play. Provided you're not playing something REALLY CPU heavy, you should be fine.

The only thing I could say negative about this product is that you may have to buy a better cooler if temperature is something you really care about. It idles on my system with the stock CPU fan and a single fan in the case at about 35 degrees Celsius. The highest numbers I saw while gaming where around 65 degrees. I've had mixed feedback for those numbers, so I say this as a word of warning if you're among those who are concerned by those numbers.
