5 out of 5 eggsReview Update

Pros: Got lucky mine can go to 4.7ghz with 1.375 Vcore after I replaced my thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5. It plays Borderlands, BF4, Crysis 3, Skyrim, Thief and Outlast fine all at 60fps+ tho BF4 has some noticeable stuttering issue. Still a steal for the money. And again I picked up this cpu because its cheap and runs single threaded applications with capability similar to an overclocked i7 4770k but $260 cheaper.

Cons: Well not really, other than only 2 cores/2 threads which might be a turn off for the typical gamers.

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd review of this cpu. Let me put in this way, I am die-hard AMD fan, and have always loved AMD's more bang for your bulks approach especially in the Core vs Price category. Especially when the same motherboard that can lasts you thru multiple generations of AMD processors. And I always hated Intels apporach, expensive, low core counts, hyperthreading gimmick and how they go thru so many different socket types in such a short time like I go thru toilet paper. However I ran into a few issues recently with older applications that couldnt really make use of AMD's multiple cores and AMDs weaker per core performance is lagging me behind (I also own a FX8150 and an Asus 990FX board). So I decided to pick up an Intel even tho I always hated their way of doing business including their backdoor discount to retailers to attack AMD which is a company trying to survive and also keep Intel in check so Intel cant gouge us with their pricing like they did before AMD released the worlds 1st 64bit processor Athlon 64 as well as the Athlon 64 x2 which completely stomped in Intel at the time in both pricing and performance.

Anyways I will put it this way, my last Intel processor I owned before this one was a Pentium D... which was extremely terrible and I became AMD fanatics after picking up a Athlon 64, then the X2 and all the way till the FX8150 which I was planning to get a FX8350 if I didnt run into some old single threaded application performance issue. So by some crazy timing, Intel released this processor as I was thinking about getting the FX8350 which after all has better single thread performance than the old bulldozer. With a price tag of $70 I told myself "meh screw intel but this cpu do seem promising for what I currently need with its powerful haswell cores" while I despised having to get a good z97 board (which cost more than double than this processor) to go with it I did it anyways for a change and and some giggles as I overclock every single processor I own.

Gotta say I am impressed, with cheap thermal paste and a small radiator-style heatsink I have very little problem getting it to 4.4 with minimal tweaks but it feels like I was thermally limited because I was able to get it to oc higher when I stick a fan next to my case yet my heatsink always feels "too cold" especially when the pentium is running at 75C+ in prime95, so I purchase some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and now I can get it to go 4.7 if I want easily (and small moral of this story, thermal paste matters). I settled for 4.5ghz @1.275 vcore, idles @32-35C full load at 72C with ambient temperature of 80F/28C.

Great product, I only wish AMD could do something amazing again like they did when they release athlon 64 and the 64x2. If AMD had something like Pentium AE, it wouldve probably been cheaper/or at least competitive price with 4 minimum cores~~~

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Value

Pros: Overclocked to 4.4GHZ with 1.2v core. 65c under full load, idles around 35c, with aftermarket cooler. Have not tried to go higher. Got lucky with this one. Was also fortunate to get this in an awesome combo deal featuring a z97 motherboard over the July 4th weekend.

Cons: None whatsoever.

5 out of 5 eggsNice CPU, I MEAN NICE!!!

Pros: 4.1G @ 1.05V; 4.7G @ 1.275V stable.

Cons: None, but how about a $20 CPU? C'mon intel! :E]

Other Thoughts: Bought the chip from a local store that had better price; I got lucky, my chip overclocks so well with low voltage. Paired with MSI Z97 and Nvidia 750 Ti, plays all my games maxed or very high, butter smooth. Can't be happier.

AMD gave me problem every time I gave them a chance (most recent A10-7850K, and 280X on the same Intel Z97 board, intermittent frame drop to around 15FPS). Zero issue with Intel as always. I'm done with AMD unless they come up with something revolutionary like their early Barton cores and x64 chips.

5 out of 5 eggsgood CPU for the money

Pros: Overclocked to 4.2g at 1.228v max stress test. High 64c when 100% loaded with 212EVO cooler. I'm sure it could go higher, but really no need after that.

Cons: Stock Cooler is good for normal usage. I used it for a week, it was a little loud for my taste, but it kept CPU at around 37C idle. 70C full load. not bad for general PC usage or you are not picky about the noise.

Other Thoughts: For the price, this is definitely a good purchase. even for games, unless the game you are playing is CPU intensive, this should be more than enough to serve you until broadwell next year.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: very good features. all are newer generation features.

Cons: Too bad, the default BIOS is old version which doesn't support the newest CPU.
I have to use the 4th gen CPU to flash to a newer BIOS. and then install the 5th gen CPU.

5 out of 5 eggs2 core i74770k

Pros: Blazing fast, definitely a steal at the price for what I need. Faceroll overlocking capability, and its an Haswell!!!

Cons: I'd say it only has 2-cores but its perfect for what I need. The other con is the z97 motherboard i picked up cost double than this processor. z97 isnt necessary for this cpu, a cheap h81 with oc-enabled firmware would work fine but I went with z97 just for the off chance i might pick up an devils canyon i5 or i7.

Other Thoughts: I have few applications and few games that I use everyday that's especially demanding on a single core/thread cpu performance. I overclocked this to 4.5 effortlessly and just for the giggles I ran cinabench (ST) against my co-worker's i7-4770k oced at 4.5 as well, and this little $60 cpu is just as fast (like 2% slower) compare to a $300+ i7.

Unless you routinely use all-core-aware applications or bleeding edge games, this is truly a steal. Again, it feels just like a 2-core i7

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Here is my experience with my G3258.

My chip runs stable stock settings all day long.

Overclocking wise mine is a dud. To check to see if your chip is a dud or not make these settings in the BIOS:

CPU core voltage: 1.2V
CPU core multiplier: 40 (this is the core multipler)
CPU uncore voltage: 1.1V
CPU uncore multiplier: 32 (this is the ring bus inside the CPU)

Prime 95 it for 8 hours and see if stable. If stable then raise the multiplier by 1 until prime 95 starts throwing errors. Then raise the voltage. Haswell is good up to 1.4V if you have good air cooling. From reading review almost all G3258 CPU will reach 4.0 GHz at least.

My CPU made in Costa Rica will only run at 4.0GHz @ 1.225V. Anything above that and it will not pass prime 95.

Hope everyone has better results than mine as i was expecting to hit 4.5 GHz.

PS I have a GA-Z97X-UD3H motherboard. (waiting for broadwell)

Cons: Didn't clock very high.
Maximum I achieved is 4.0GHz @ 1.2V
Anything above that crashes.

Other Thoughts: Although my chip won't go higher than 4.0 GHz everything I throw at it runs like a champ.

5 out of 5 eggstotally awesome.

Pros: well, its simple, runs cool enough for me. i paired it with a z97 by asrock, and im running it stable at 4.3ghz at 1.3volts. or 1.297 depending on the program, any lower i would blue screen, and under water cooling with semi ok water cooler under prime 95 small ftt for a few hours i never broke 68c, for now 4.3 was my magic number, i can and will higher when i get a better cooler like the h100 and push it to somewhere like 1.4 volts. and remember anything under 1.55 is the safe zone. and the temp threshhold is 73c. total **** these chips can and will run hotter, be aware it goes over 80.

Cons: didnt win the silicon lottery, but still awesome

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast and very power efficient. I bought for NAS plex server for a couple of rokus. With kill-a-watt, system idles around 42 watts, averages around 50-watt usage per day. I haven't overclocked it because I don't need the power and doing so really kills efficiency.

Cons: Chip has like no instruction set extentions, but i knew that going in.
