4 out of 5 eggsYou win some, You lose some

Pros: Bought the G3258 and $45 MSI MB as suggested by Tom's. I works great up to 3.8 but 4.0 isn't obtainable even at 1.3 volts. My base stock voltage appears to be 1.123 volts @ 3.2 GHz. There's not much head room before it gets above 80C at 4.0GHz.

Cons: If you're looking for a huge OC you might be disappointed. No point in putting a $50 cooler on a $70 CPU. Buy the more expensive processor.

Other Thoughts: Works great at 3.8 MHz. Great improvement over my P2.8 email/Office machine. Spent ~$150 for MB, CPU & 4GB memory. Put it in the existing box and went FAST.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Deal

Pros: Price, architecture, performance. Paired with an MSI Z87-G41 and is completely stable at 4GHz with stock HSF. Running below 50C under heavy load. For this price it can't be beat! Couldn't imagine spending the difference for an i3 or i5 for home use. I'm not a heavy gamer so this processor is perfectly adequate with the integrated graphics.

I have a 5+ yr old case, power supply and optical drive, and was able to get this G3258 with the aforementioned motherboard and 8GB of memory, plus a newegg shell shocker deal on a 128GB Corsair SSD all for under $250.

This G3258 is this generation's Celeron 300 (I had one of those, too!) If you're even considering this processor, do yourself a favor and buy it today!

4 out of 5 eggsBest deal for the money

Pros: Cheap, unlocked multiplier, nostalgic, runs 4.4 easily and benches close to core quad @ 2.5, perfect for gamers on a budget

Cons: I can't help but feel like Intel released much better versions of this chip initially. People were hitting 4.7+ with low voltages and now 4.4 is super common...but you can't really complain at this price point.

Other Thoughts: Buy this and wait for i7 prices to come down.

5 out of 5 eggsG3258

Pros: OC to 4.3 at 1.2V, CPU max out at 28 watts and 70C. Fast and snappy for a 2 core. Under $100 w MB at Newegg.

Cons: DDR3 only at 1333, Not a 4 core.

Other Thoughts: My Gigabyte B85 MB only can do 1.2V and 1400mhz on the ram. Thanks Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable and solid

Pros: Can't go wrong on a budget PC with this CPU. Runs well and pretty cool using the intel supplied cooling fan. I did remove intel's thermal compound and used my own instead. Under load seems to stay in the low 30s so no objections there. Plenty fast for this PC's purpose.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggs4.9 GHz oc

Pros: I have an MSI z97 mpower ac motherboard. I don't even have the second CPU power cable plugged in and I have this little beast over clocked to a massive 4.9 stable.

Cons: None as of now, I'll rewrite this if anything changes.

Other Thoughts: If you do anything that requires multi threaded tasks simple don't buy this chip. If you do anything else, buy it and over clock the hell out of it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: I do some gaming (BF4 mainly), and I cannot tell a difference between this and my $200 quad core i5 chip. I'm sure if I benchmarked the two or really pushed some gameplay settings the G3258 would come up slightly short here and there but in my opinion it's this chip or a 2011 or 2011 v-3.

Cons: None, Some have mentioned the noise of the cooler and I have come to the conclusion they must be part housecat to be able to hear the thing, yea it's a fan it moves air which makes noise, but inside a closed case I can't hear it.

Other Thoughts: If you don't want to mess with overclocking it's still a good cpu, probably not the best for gaming or editing etc etc, but will likely work just fine for building that pc for your parents or even most business computers. It's dirt cheap and it's an 1150 socket so you can upgrade if you feel it isn't good enough. Just don't go cheap on the mobo if you're gonna overclock, steady voltage is key.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing power for the price

Pros: Overclockable with the right motherboard (I hit a thermal limit around 4.1 GHz with the stock cooler). Overclocked, has unmatched single threaded performance for anything even remotely close in price.

Cons: Only 2 cpu cores, which can put it at a significant disadvantage in certain applications. This disadvantage really cannot be fully compensated by overclocking. But for the price, you can't expect the moon.
