5 out of 5 eggsGood CPU

Pros: CPU has been a great upgrade from my old i7 950 (needless to say). The base clock is decent, power draw is good, and it supports next gen hardware. Got mine to OC to 4.4ghz and be stable (see other thoughts)

Cons: Maybe the price for the extra PCI lanes. Requires custom cooling or non stock cooling solution (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I got this because I wanted to run 2 GPUs in SLI at 16x and have plenty of room for expansion in the future (M.2 drives to be specific).

Put this on an Asus Rampage Extreme and at first it was a mixed bag of results. At stock the processor worked fine, but during overclocking trial there were some extreme stability issues. However, these issues were due to the MB and not the CPU itself, and after a Bios update the system is running stable at 4.4ghz.

Even at OC the temp remains pretty stable, well below the thresholds (I think the hottest I have seen under load so far is 140). I have this sitting under an EK Supremacy EVO block and a 360mm radiator, I don't expect any problems. This might be a problem for some people however since liquid cooling is going to add at least another $100 (looking at Corsair offerings anyways), so total price would be north of $700. That being said, it's an excellent product (as long as you are not only concerned about Ghz) and I would recommend this to anyone thinking about upgrading (particularly from an older CPU like my trusty i7 950)

5 out of 5 eggsGood Overclocker!

Pros: I have this cpu installed on an Asus X99-A and it overclocks very well: 4.5GHz at 1.331v.
Blazes through every test I have thrown at it.
Runs much cooler (on a custom water loop) than the online reviews led me to believe it would.

Cons: A lot of extra money to get all 40 pcie lines.
Uses a lot of power during intensive applications.

5 out of 5 eggsThis Chip...

Pros: Great stock clocks for a 6 Core 12 thread Processor
Overclocks excellently
Runs at Amazingly low Temps
Great Stability

Cons: Wish mine went a little further, but that's just the name of the game

Other Thoughts: I got his chip up to 4.7ghz stable pretty easily but that seems to be the limit (The voltage got a bit beyond what I feel is safe) but I bumped it down to 4.5ghz for 24.7 use since that is enough for all my applications and games. Adobe finishes now so fast and gaming is never held back to the point where I feel this beast will be good for 4+ years. I love the temps this thing runs at because I barely ever (Though I am under liquid) get over 70C under 100% stress at 4.5ghz overclocked on all 6 cores (Turbo disabled). Cannot praise it enough as to me this is one of my favorite Intel chips out their. Its overclocking is generally better than the 5960X (Mostly because its 6 cores vs 8 which limits things) and it has all the PCIE lanes you could want for your gaming/media/work PC setup. Highly recommend if you want to run 3-4GPU's but I would say if not to get the 5820K.

Specs:
i7 5930k @ 4.5ghz
MSI Gaming 9AC X99
Corsair Vengeance 2666 16gb (4x4gb)
Samsung 840Pro SSD 512gb
Seagate Barracuda 1tb 7200RPM
3x PowerColor R9 290X
Rosewill Lightning 1300Watt
Corsair Obsidian 800D With Custom CPU and GPU cooling system

5 out of 5 eggsgreat performance

Pros: Great performance with stock config, even better when I over clocked it to 3.9. Temps with my H80 corsair cooler are holding 29C during normal use and up to 40C with gaming use. So I'm impressed and don't plan to over clock beyond where I'm at now.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: My old i7-970 is a reliable workhorse still running today. I hope this one proves to be the same.

4 out of 5 eggsGood processor, but the other two might be better options

Pros: Fast, powerful, stable, etc, etc. It's Intel's new E series and man does it deliver. If you want a stupidly high end system, then these are the processors to get. Overclocks great in most cases, and even the poor samples seem to hit 4-4.2GHz. Good ones hit 4.6GHz, maybe more. Make sure you get good cooling if you want to try that.

Also something to note is overclocking voids your warranty... but Intel will sell you an OC warranty. Called the Performance Tuning Protection Plan, it runs you like $25-30 straight from Intel. They'll then cover damage even if you OC. Consider picking it up if you get one of these and want to push it.

Cons: Price. E series stuff is always expensive, however this is a bit of a hard sell, what with the 5820K selling for so much less and trading off very little.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you buy a heatsink, the E series don't come with one.

Before you pull the trigger on this, consider the 5820K and the 5960X. The reason is for the price, this is not necessarily a good choice. Unless you need more PCIe lanes for 3-way SLI or the like, the 5820K should get you the same performance but for a good deal less money. The OC results seem to be right about the same according to the hardware sites. Also, the 5960X might seem a bit underwhelimg, since it has a 500MHz slower base clock, but again it seems to overclock no problems.

So the only case where the 5830K is the best is if you don't wish to overclock and want the highest base clocks, or if you have a use for more PCIe lanes, but can't swing the massive price for the 5960X.

I'm not saying don't get it, obviously I decided it was the best for me, just make sure you consider the other options. In many, many, cases the 5820K will save you 30%ish and when OC'd provide the exact same performance.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: high overclocker!!

I don't know what everyone is talking about saying that they can't get high overclocks. I have this 5930k paired with an EVGA x99 Classified and I was able to get a stable 4.5ghz! I upgraded from an AMD FX-8350, and although I think that is still a great cpu, it was giving me stuttering in some games. the 5930k completely rid me of that problem. paired with 2 GTX Titans in SLI, I have nothing but smooth gameplay.

Cons: runs a little hot with increased voltages, but what cpu doesn't.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly as I expected

Pros: Fast, 6+6 core for great multitasking, awesome OC capability, runs cool, and 40 Lanes for PCIE.

Cons: Price is a little high, but to get the 40 lanes for PCIE it's either this or the $1000 one. lol

Other Thoughts: If you want great performance at a decent price this is the processor for you.

Pros: It works great at stock speeds.

Cons: Anything above the turbo frequency. 38+ forget about it, refused to post. Much like others here it just wont overclock.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy it again.

4 out of 5 eggsmine is a silicon dud

Pros: this is a great cpu, fast and multi-core

Cons: Mine cannot take any overclock above 3.7Ghz without becoming unstable. This isn't an issue of power delivery, motherboard, or memory. I've tried aggressive voltage, checked my load cpu temps (45c), done memtest checks (passes). I have an EVGA super nova 1000w platinum psu.

As another reviewer said, just hit the silicon lottery and came up snake eyes for overclock.
