1 out of 5 eggslaptop memory

Pros: right item for the D830 Dell

Cons: PC would'nt boot up, put old memory back in would boot up, Bad sticks..

Other Thoughts: I sure hate that it costed me $10 in shipping return fee for default sticks.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue you had with the memory. We actually make branded memory modules for brand name systems. We show part number KTD-INSP6000C/2G as compatible for your system. The hyperX ram does show to match specifications and can possibly work. If you have any further issues with your replacement please feel free to contact us for further assistance. We can be reached at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

1 out of 5 eggsHow Unfortunate

Pros: none that i know of.

Cons: when i recieved the two sticks of RAM, i was thrilled to replace my aging laptops 2GB RAM out to lengthen its life span. The shipping was quick, but the RAM was defective. I tried both sticks, one with the older RAM. All i got was a black screen. Was very unimpressed for my first purchase from Newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the issue you are having.

5 out of 5 eggsworks good in HP dv2120

Pros: Don't ask why I am still using an HP dv2120 - it is a long story but here it is and this memory works fine in it. If it had not seated in the RAM slots I planned to clip the corners as advised in a review. but they slid right in - booted, and are automatically set to 4-4-4-12 T2 - the DRAM clock is a bit lower at 385Mhz instead of the 400Mhz.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: The difference is noticeable between this memory and a decent matched 8GB Muskin 996741 module 6-6-6-18 memory that was in the laptop from a x64 setup, back to x32 now so changed back to 4GB and lower timings.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work on Dell 1545 or HP 2530p

Pros: The capacity, Cas Latency & price maybe!t

Cons: It wouldn't boot on my Dell Inspiron 1545 or my HP Elitebook 2530p. I RMA'd hoping for the best from the second batch but no luck! The first batch only worked when I used 1 stick and another from a different brand. When I booted up with different memory sticks (Same speed), the Dell read it as 4Gb. When I tried only a Kingston HyperX it wouldn't boot. The second batch didn't work at all!

Other Thoughts: 2+2=4

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work - CL 4 not an issue

Pros: None.

Cons: Laptop did not boot. Power light lit up - no other activity, noise, fans, etc. Tried each stick alone and both sticks together - no response from laptop.

Other Thoughts: I initially upgraded 3GB DDR2 667 5-5-5-12 on a year-old Lenovo G530 to 8GB (2x4GB) Patriot DDR2 800 CL 6. Patriot memory worked but I decided to go for a more realistic 4GB with lower CL hoping for quicker response and less heat/power consumption.

The laptop would not boot with the Kingston DDR2 800 CL 4 but it did boot and works fine with G.Skill DDR2 667 4-4-4-12. I have read reviews making mention of some motherboards not being able to handle CL 4. The Lenovo G530 can handle both DDR2 800 and CL 4 (4-4-4-12), however, the Kingston sticks just don't work.

2 out of 5 eggsSpotty Compatability

Pros: Worked great in Dell Inspiron 1525 with an Intel T2370 1.73 GHz (533 FSB).

Cons: Would not post in the same Dell Inspiron 1525 and one other Dell Inspiron 1525 with an Intel T6400 2.0 GHz (800 FSB) or an Intel T8300 2.4 GHz (800 FSB) processors.

Other Thoughts: Kingston lists other memory for compatability in Dell Inspirons, I still wasted eighty-seven $ when I upgraded a seventy $ processor after I bought memory...

1 out of 5 eggsDon't use 4GB together

Pros: low latency.

Cons: I use either 1 chip on my laptop is fine, but can't use both together, system won't boot up. I use other 4GB with latency of 5 and it works. But not this 4GB with latency of 4.

Other Thoughts: You can use is on the netbook that only accept 2GB as max.

2 out of 5 eggsModule failed after 7 months

Pros: Ran well on an Asus EeePC 1201N netbook, while it worked.

Cons: One of the modules failed after about 7 months of occasional use under light-to-moderate load. Memtest86+ produces a whole slew of errors on that module.

Other Thoughts: Like most of the other Asus 1201N owners you see reviews from in March/April 2010, I bought this RAM because it was the only compatible module available for the new netbook at the time. I would've preferred Crucial, as I've used them for years in many different PCs and they've never failed me, but they didn't have a compatible module available then. (They do now.)

This is only the second time I've used Kingston memory in a machine, and it's the second time I've had Kingston memory fail on me. Given the option, I'll steer well clear of them in future.

Fortunately the HyperX memory does have a lifetime warranty, so at least I won't be out of pocket. Unfortunately I need the netbook for travel in less than a week, so now I get to test how quick Kingston's Advance Return RMA process works...
