2 out of 5 eggsConsistent BSOD in multiple systems

Pros: Great when it works.

Cons: Built a new gaming system around an Asus Z77 Sabertooth MB w/ i7 3770k. Wanted to max out the memory so I went with two of the KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G kits to push it to 32gb. Again, out of the box the RAM came in at 1333, tweeked as recommend by Kingston to get to the 1600 and it seemed to run well for awhile. This did not last. I started getting the dread BSOD occasionally, so I dialed back to 1333 - this seemed to work for a bit. No Joy though, soon the system was BSOD'ing every day, then it wouldn't even get through a clean boot. Ran through multiple iterations of testing with each stick singly and in pairs/groups. Both kits gave the similar results, Sometimes it would boot through to the OS but BSOD as soon as any load at all was placed on the system or it would not even clear to the Win logon screen. I even tried it in another system (Asus P8Z77-V PRO) - this gave the same results. Ran memtest86 in both setups and was getting horrific amounts of errors.

Other Thoughts: Looking at reviews across the web, it seems that this series is prone to this issue. It's a shame, really - I've had good luck with Kingston products in the past (Memory/SSDs) but this has me rethinking my use of Kingston products. I've started the RMA process, but I wonder about getting the same issue after replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsPnP world needs > clearity

Pros: Runs great and fast. With the cooling solution setting to the speced rate of 1600 is safe and easy. Contains plug and play profile for 1600 and is easily accessed depending on bios. If your bios doesn't run with profiles then some of the other reviews here give you the settings needed to run at 1600.

Cons: Spec sheet/marketing a little misleading to those who haven't been in the industry before Plug and Play.

Although the memory is rated for 1600 the native speed that most Bios's recognize is 1333. This requires changed settings in the bios.

Other Thoughts: This con isn't really new to the PC industry regarding memory.

Typically it has long been neccessary to change bios settings for memory whenever adding memory rated at speeds faster than the default slowest memory speed suported by the mother board. Some people are too used to assumptions with plug and play tech and don't remember/know how to maximize settings.

4 out of 5 eggsno problems, but disappointing it need to be over clocked

Pros: looks nice, had decent heat sink, low profile

Cons: NEEDS TO BE OVER CLOCKED TO ACHIEVE FULL 1600 MHZ

Other Thoughts: i'm not sure about on other mobo's, but on my asrock extreme, cranking it up to it's full 1600 mhz was no problem

3 out of 5 eggsBad advertising

Pros: I was at a crossroads:
get FAST RAM, or MORE RAM? I obviously went with "MORE". 16GB feels so, so sweet. I can have everything open forever and still run 100% smooth.

Cons: 1600 my foot. The factory data plunks it to 1333, so you have to OC and loosen the timings to get that 1600. I've had no luck OC'ing to anything else, but OC'ing RAM doesn't do very much anyways.

I'm still mad at the misleading advertising (though by reading the reviews, I knew what I was in for, just...I NEEDED 16 GB!).

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We're sorry for the confusion with the HyperX memory. HyperX memory is designed for overclocking which requires changes to be made in BIOS to configure those features. We can advise you on which timings are needed to be changed to achieve the 1600MHz speed as advertised. This information is also available on the product's data sheet here: http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KHX1600C10D3B1K2_16G.pdf. There is also another HyperX product line called PnP (Plug and Play) where all you need to do is plug them in and the system automatically boots to the specified overclocked speed. Kingston products are 100% tested to meet the listed specifications. For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggsGood RAM

Pros: Fast, Good Deal

Cons: One of the cards was defective but a quick RMA later and now I have two working cards. That was the only reason I knocked off an egg. They even refunded a hefty percentage back.

5 out of 5 eggsA new Kingston fan here

Pros: Man, I love these! Caught them on sale at Newegg and after having issues with Corsair and GSkill I figured "what the heck". After initially set proper timings in Bios I let my UEFI do it's magic. In UEFI's automatic overclock they automatically bumped to 1866 speeds without a problem and blasted through memtest without any issues. I've had no problems compared to issues with Corsair and GSkill sticks. Kingston HyperX is now the brand for me. Bought another set for laptop and replaced above mentioned brands in two other builds with once again no issues in memtest. I am sticking with them in my builds both personal and for customers from now on.

By the way, Emailed customer support for a case sticker (badge) for client. They were nice and in clear and plain English said no problem and UPS'd me some free of charge. That is above and beyond what many manufacturers will do for their customers these days and is appreciated!

Cons: Only con is I had to manually set speeds in Bios to 10 10 10 27 as in previous reviews (THANX GUYS!) I've had to do that with all the memory I've bought, but that is more a motherboard Manufacturer issue than a Kingston issue. No eggs deducted for something so simple.

Other Thoughts: Their quick tech support and quality products that I've received have made me a fan that will buy only Kingston. Other brands tech support and bad quality control have left me hanging too many times.

I dunno if some of the complaints on here are from mobo compatibility issues or what. I check the site's QVL to make sure that the memory has been approved...just a thought.

4 out of 5 eggsKingston Memory

Pros: Runs 1333 out of box, on a Gigabyte board everything set to Auto
To get 1600 as per Kingston 10,10,10,27 then set to 1600
as Per Jason from Kingston Tech support. FYI

Runs Stable at 1333 will see how she goes at 1600

Cons: So far nada not looking to tweak looking for stability.

Other Thoughts: Remeber 10,10,10,27 then set to 1600 in your BIOS.

Gigabyte board makes this cake.
Would have been nice if this info would have been readily visable when I first got it, and didn't have to dig it out.
