3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't do 2400MHz on my board

Pros: Works fine at 2133MHz on my hardware. I've had this kit for 4 months.

Cons: Isn't stable at 2400MHz. Set manually or through A.M.P.. APU crashes when taxed. Memtest86+ fails. Issues are resolved going down to 2133.
3 stars instead of 2 because the blame is shared between the motherboard and memory.

Other Thoughts: CPU: A10-7850K
MB: Gigabyte F2A88XN-WiFi
PSU: Corsair CX430

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer some assistance. Your APU shows it only supports up to DDR3-2133 memory. Although, it is still possible for the system to run at DDR3-2400. Make sure your system has the latest BIOS as there are several revisions posted on Gigabyte's website that updated APU and memory compatibility, the latest is version F4. (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4745#bios) There is also note in the overview of the motherboard that the BIOS needs to be updated in order to support FM2+ features such as DDR3-2400 AMP, on the BIOS download page this is indicated in the F2 version of the BIOS. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Beast Rocks!

Pros: I don't know why others are having problems running stable at 2400, mine has run great since I installed it 8 months ago, with CPU overclocks from 4.2 to 4.9, using the same speed and timings (2400-11-13-13-30-2T). Using the XMP profile or manual settings, I never had any problems. Trying to go beyond 2400 requires looser timings/higher voltage, and overall performance stays about the same, so I run mine at 2400. With my i5-3570K CPU at 4500 & RAM at 2400, my system is faster than most stock i7s, and my latency is lower than all tested systems in the latest AIDA64 benchmark. Periodic Memtest86 runs show zero errors after many hours. This RAM makes Ivy Bridge a lot faster. The Beast rocks!

Cons: Not a legitimate con, but it won't overclock profitably over 2400 (it'll run faster but latency will suffer). For the very reasonable price I paid, it's all I expected and more.

Other Thoughts: I wish I'd gotten a 16 GB kit when RAM prices were lower. I'll probably just get another one of these kits and hope the two kits play nice together.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate: 2400 stable?

Pros: Good RAM works. Just wanted to update my first review due to the cons I listed. When checking my motherboard's RAM specs list I didn't notice between switching tabs that just one digit was off in the model number... so while my motherboard is supposed to be compatible with Kingston Predator 2400Mhz it's not seeming to be compatible with the Kingston Beast. Same timings.. imagine they're the same sticks with different heatsinks. Suppose it could be the intel 3570k's memory controller only supporting up to 1600Mhz speed but I doubt that, as I've read many people's specs that run oc'd ram with that chip. Either way, bumped it up an egg as it's working good now.

Cons: None, other than wishing it were compatible with my motherboard.. lol.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you check your RAM's specs list carefully, don't just skim it like I did. Hopefully a BIOS update will make it compatible in the future.

3 out of 5 eggs2400 stable?

Pros: Well, it worked good for the first few weeks @ 2400MHz. Seems stable except when memory controller hangs.

Cons: I don't know if it's this RAM or my motherboard, as I don't have any access to any other 2400MHz RAM to test it out... but for some reason my memory controller keeps hanging. Z77 extreme 3 board that can support up to 2600MHz+ RAM. I have yet to try at 2133 speeds and see if it still causes the memory controller to hang or not.

Other Thoughts: If the problems persist @ 2133 speeds I will hopefully be RMA'ing it as I bought it when it was on sale 2 wks ago and now I see newegg discontinued carrying it. Makes me wonder if it wasn't suspect to begin with and they were trying to get the last of them out the door.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Performance Chip for the Cost

Pros: I've got these in a newly built system. So far they run very cool and have provided solid performance. I've yet to overclock them to see what they're capable of, but will update when I do.

Cons: As with any memory with heat spreaders on them, they're a little tall. This isn't an issue in most cases unless you're upgrading your CPU heat sink though. If you are, make sure you measure 2x and purchase once.

5 out of 5 eggsPay attention folks

Pros: Fast!!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Most motherboards will not support this memory. When speeds are this high your getting into specific configurations on your board. Asus and others have what's called a QVL or a qualified vendors list which has specific part numbers that are supported at this speed. If you didn't do your research first don't knock the memory, instead read up and buy the correct memory that your mobo will support.

4 out of 5 eggsTook awhile - but finally got it

Pros: Cool lookin
Fast (although I could not get the 2400 advertised)
Great tech support by Kingston

Cons: For around a month I could only get the default speed of 1333. After many failed overclocking attempts I finally contacted the folks over at Kingston. The experience went surprising well. While the tech I spoke with said my motherboard couldn't support 2400 speeds :'( ... he helped me set my voltage and timings to obtain 2133. (1.6v 11-12-11 for those interested)

Ran memory tests and no issues after a week so far.

Other Thoughts: Crosshair V Formula Z
AMD 8350
Cooler Master 700W

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: Fast and good price. 2400 MHz. Great when over-clocking. Really good for the money.

Cons: Need to over clock in motherboard.May be con for some but not for me...

Other Thoughts: Make sure your motherboard will accept this memory or you are overpaying for 1600 MHz memory. Most amd motherboards won't accept it...
