Zalman’s feather-light aluminum S Series 2.5’’ SSDs contain both SATA II and mini-USB 2.0 interfaces, providing higher convenience and flexibility as either a portable storage device or internal disk drive. In addition to the dual interface, by utilizing a JMicron controller chip, as well as cutting-edge flash memory with 128MB DDR2 cache buffer, the S Series achieves ultra-fast access and transferring performance with a read speed of up to 260 MB/s and write throughput speed of up to 210 MB/s (120MB/s for 64GB Model). Optimized for AHCI Mode along with Windows 7 Trim support, the S Series also enables ultra fast start-up and access speed, as well as silent and low power operation.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSDs translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg A Major Upgrade in Performance In addition to its 128MB DDR2 SDRAM, the Zalman S Series utilizes the latest JMicron controller and Intel MLC NAND Flash to stand out among its competitors, providing up to 260 MB/s sequential read speed and up to 120 MB/s write performance (64GB Model).
  • newegg Trim Support The Zalman S Series SSDs offer TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg Dual Interfaces, Flexible Usage The Zalman S Series equips SATA II and mini-USB dual interfaces for greater convenience and flexibility. The SSD can be used either as an external portable storage drive, or as an installed disk in laptop or desktop PC compatible with 2.5’’ SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsBest SSD I ever bought, in terms of reliability.

Pros: Never had an issue with it. Still works today. That usb slot also came in handy several times. I'm sad this company doesn't make more SSD.

Cons: It was only 64 gb. Better SSDs came out the following year for the same price.

3 out of 5 eggsBeware if rebates are involved

Pros: Good size for an operating system and Windows 7 had no issues being installed on it. I have everything else stored on a regular hard drive. It was a great price while it was on sale and a $40 rebate.

Cons: Company did not want to honor their rebate. It took us over a month to get it straitened out. We had three other rebates for other products and we had no issue getting them processed, only Zalman attempted to reject the rebate.

Beware if you are purchasing this product because of a rebate.

Other Thoughts: The first couple of weeks I had a scare that something was wrong with my computer, as it was randomly restarting itself. Not sure what was responsible for it, but fortunately it did go away on its own. My computer and the SSD have been working great for four months now.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor quality, horrible service.

Pros: None

Cons: Within 3 months, with absolutely no rhyme or reason to it, I started having utterly odd errors with Windows 7. IE would crash every single time, sometime Win7 would crash on boot-up.

Reinstalled Win7, several times, everytime the file saving process would kick out a critical fault that would render the install incomplete and unusuable. At a point I even started double-guessing myself and thought it could be the DVD drive, so decided to get a new one. And along with it, I also got a fresh Win8 package. All wasted money, for nothing, as the crashing during the Win8 install process mimicked what had happend with Win7.

At this point, two weeks after completing the RMA process on the Zalman site, and calling them today, I still have not heard back from anybody. Extremely disappointed and frustrated. First and last, as I'm certain I'll never EVER buy another Zalman product. HORRIBLE experience.

3 out of 5 eggs2.5 years then fail

Pros: At the time the price was really good and it always did me just fine for only running my OS.

Cons: Kinda slow, died after just 2.5 years

Other Thoughts: I'm hoping Zalman is willing to take care of this. If so I won't regret buying this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute junk

Pros: None. It failed right out of the box.

Cons: Failed out of the box. Have to return it. Avoid like the plague.

Other Thoughts: What else is there to say?

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: This SSD has been a good mix of reliability and performance, which hasn't been very common compared to other people I know who went down the SSD road. Glad I purchased it, the HTPC it's in boots much, much faster with it. 64GB is plenty for Windows 7.

Cons: The only complaint I can think of is that it didn't include 2.5"-3.5" mounting rails, so it sits a little wonky in my case.

Other Thoughts: I forgot to write a review on this SSD after I bought it. It's been a part of my HTPC for over a year and a half now. Even though Windows 7 supports TRIM and the whole bit, you'll want to search around for some guides to help tweak certain aspects of the OS to get as much performance and life out of it as you can. Some people say that tweaking Windows for the SSD isn't necessary, but maybe that's why it's been 18+ months with this SSD for me without a single problem.

5 out of 5 eggsWow...Just wow...

Pros: Fast, Reliable, Works with Windows 7 x64

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: This is the first SSD I have ever owned. I just have to say when I installed Windows 7 x64 and booted for the first time in under 6 seconds I couldn't believe it. My old Seagate 120GB 7200RPM hard drive took around 20-30 seconds to cold boot. If you're looking to use this SSD to run your OS with minimal applications then I highly suggest getting this. You won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked great for exactly 1 year

Pros: Drive was amazing and performed as promised.

Cons: Died exactly 1 year after purchase. Computer no longer sees the drive. Neither do any of the other computers in the house that I've connected it to both through USB and SATA.

Other Thoughts: Working through the RMA process with Zalman right now and hopefully there will be good news on the horizon.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: This drive is nice to have. Its really reliable. grate for budget PC builders or people looking to upgrade their current PC with an SSD. It doesn't give the windows logo a chance to complete at boot-up. Totally outlasted my OCZ SSD that only worked for 2 months.

Cons: Don't really have one.

Other Thoughts: Ideal for someone who doesn't download alot of stuff.
