Equipped with the acclaimed SandForce SF-1222 controller, Zalman's N Series 2.5’’ SSDs deliver remarkable performance, with a maximum of 280 MB/s read speed and 270 MB/s write speed - an achievement unparalleled by traditional hard drives. The N Series is highly reliable and durable, delivers significantly higher performance, saves power, and stays cool. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Zalman N Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features Windows 7 TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSDs translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg A Major Upgrade in Performance Built with Intel MLC NAND flash and the latest generation SandForce SF1222 controller featuring award winning DuraClass Technology, the Zalman N Series delivers industry-leading SSD reliability, performance, and power efficiency, complete with ultra-fast sequential read speed up to 280 MB/s and write performance up to 270 MB/s.
  • newegg Trim Support The Zalman N Series SSDs offer TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst rude customer support in the industry

Pros: Works if you dont try to apply their recommended firmware update

Cons: Worst! Rude! non-responsive customer service in the industry period. I have never been treated like this in any online purchasing experience. I would not buy another product from these people if it was the best reviewed and only source. I was a long time customer of Zalman but it only took one interaction with one of their "managers" over the phone to turn me away for life. They release firmware that bricks the drive then they fight you tooth and nail to refuse a replacement. I had to get their phone number to get ANY contact. Then it took 7 yes 7 months to get my replacement. They flat were not going to send it without me fighting them after they had agreed to and received the bad drive with delivery confirmation. AVOID ZALMAN AS A WHOLE!

5 out of 5 eggsGot this for $35 after MIR

Pros: - Out the door price was $35
- Runs about as expected for a 64GB on SATA2 interface
- Still blows away the fastest conventional HDDs on a SATA3 interface.
- Breathed new life into my aging Core2Quad system

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I was a little bit surprised, but not entirely unexpected that it gave slightly better performance on a newer SATA3 interface, but it was not significant enough to make it a "CON".

Certainly if this is normally going to be priced at more than $1/GB, this is a really bad deal and wouldn't be a 5-star review. You'd be better off buying a newer, current SATA3 model and just letting it operate on the slower SATA2 until it gets migrated to a newer system.
It gets 5-stars because it came in at $.55/GB which is still pretty decent in SSD-land. And even a 'slower' SATA2 SSD blows away a conventional HDD on a SATA3.

Rebate took almost exactly 9 weeks to receive the rebate, which is inline with 8-10 week window.

3 out of 5 eggsDidn't come with screws

Pros: I'll update this review once I can use the thing, in the meantime:

Cons: ...I'm irritated that it didn't come with mounting screws. Installation leaflet says "securely mount with screws provided," but it came with none. I'm not the type to have extra hardware around, so I don't know what to do about that. Further, maybe this is industry standard, but I assumed it would come with everything needed to actually install and use? Especially since Newegg didn't suggest pairing it with a Sata cable or something. So now I have to wait another however many days for the 50 cent Sata cable I ordered to get here. Seems really weak that manufacturers don't just throw that in with these drives...whatever. Finally, this isn't a big deal, but my drive doesn't feature the mini-USB port shown in the Newegg video review.

Other Thoughts: Was excited, now a little disappointed. Looking forward to seeing what it can do eventually.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It was very fast

Cons: It died in less than a year

Other Thoughts: I would have given this a good review if it had not suddenly died without any warning. It was far faster than the traditional disk it replaced but now my computer won't even POST with the Zalman in it.

1 out of 5 eggsMine causes BSOD & zalman's support is horrendous

Pros: Reasonably priced
Fast when it works

Cons: Mine BSODs regularly. Crashes the pc and when it reboots is not detected in the bios. A cold reboot allows the drive to be detected again for the next few hours. I have tried on 3 different PCs & fresh windows 7 installs with the same results. Using another intel SSD/ WD 2TB drive is stable on my PCs.

Horrendous support, website RMA has not responded after 48hrs . Stay away from zalman products...

1 out of 5 eggsJust paint over those birdies!!

Pros: in progress

Cons: in progress

Other Thoughts: what!!! went to zalman to get firmware upgrade. downloaded, unpacked and..... the file is called "ADATA S599 firmware upgrade tool v1.0"

save yourself $10 and just get the adata s599, download the file yourself first if you like and see what its for.

rebranding is how the markets work, i know, BUT i prefer not to feel so blatantly ripped off and what is with the adata getting those bad reviews here compared to the N series when they are the same drive??

3 out of 5 eggsPoor Product Support

Pros: I preferred Zalman since it was in my budget with all the discount & still delivering performance for $$ as per the spec sheet.
I'm yet to test read/write speed but it seem very much snappier. Win 7 loads in 18 sec. very minimal startup service & software run on boot

Cons: Has to be product support. Poor period. You don't get response to the question raised over e-mail & it is hard to get them to talk. last month they happened to release firmware update which i tried applying. The firmware upgrade tool simply hangs after few seconds & won't reboot the system as mentioned in their release notes. it simply hangs for eternity in spite all the administrative privilege to run in Windows 7. The upgrade instruction is just basic & assumes nothing will go wrong while upgrading firmware. I'm not sure whether upgrade went fine though the hardware id seem to suggest the contrary.

Don't know when will i run into troubles! down 2eggs for bad support

Other Thoughts: Ideally should be bundled with software to check general state of SSD health & read/write speed test. Link to downland software if not bundled. Release note should carry Feature update & fixes.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent SSD

Pros: Lightweight, fast, works in my Dell Studio 1737 laptop.

Cons: Speeds are half of what is listed. I've completed all the tasks for optimizing SSD with Windows 7. It's still WAY faster than the original HD.
Might be the chipset in the laptop.

Other Thoughts: I agree that drive sizes are misleading, they should be required to list the usable space as the size of the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Does everything I ask it to. Compared it to other Sandforce controllers (I wasn't about to buy a SSD with a JMicron controller) and this seemed to have the best bang/buck ratio.

Cons: Had to somewhat juryrig a mount in my case because it didn't come with an adaptor, but this was expected and it was not advertised that it did come with such an adaptor.

Other Thoughts: I would love to see a number of these in a RAID.
Would buy again.
