Equipped with the acclaimed SandForce SF-1222 controller, Zalman's N Series 2.5’’ SSDs deliver remarkable performance, with a maximum of 280 MB/s read speed and 270 MB/s write speed - an achievement unparalleled by traditional hard drives. The N Series is highly reliable and durable, delivers significantly higher performance, saves power, and stays cool. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Zalman N Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features Windows 7 TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSDs translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg A Major Upgrade in Performance Built with Intel MLC NAND flash and the latest generation SandForce SF1222 controller featuring award winning DuraClass Technology, the Zalman N Series delivers industry-leading SSD reliability, performance, and power efficiency, complete with ultra-fast sequential read speed up to 280 MB/s and write performance up to 270 MB/s.
  • newegg Trim Support The Zalman N Series SSDs offer TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

3 out of 5 eggsTwo years? Not so fast there.

Pros: Inexpensive. Easy to install. Clean simple design. 3-year warranty. Rebate.

Cons: Failed completely after two years. Lost all data. Customer service/RMA very difficult to reach via their web page. On my third attempt to get a reply from Zalman for replacement. Newegg stopped selling this SSD. brand. That should tell you something.

Other Thoughts: Would not purchase again and would not recommend this brand of SSD. Read the user reviews and go for something from a trusted brand with a 5-year warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware, Bad SSD, Bad Support, Bad Company

Pros: In the beginning it seemed relatively fast. However, that was very short lived.

Firmware is original firmware and not able to be updated. Like all SSD firmware, there are bugs that need to be worked out of the firmware in given time. Zalman's support (Michael) specifically told me they do not have any way to update it and no plans to do so. His reasoning is because they are not going to manufacture SSDs any more. Therefore, they are not concerned with current SSDs already out there in the marketplace...

Cons: I have been fighting with Zalman to find a fix for my troubled SSD since day one (Dec. 2010). They have refused and the drive finally went out completely over a month ago. I sent it in to have it replaced and they told me the post office delivered it to the wrong office (even though it was clearly marked with the RMA address right on it) and then told me they ran out of SSDs to replace it with. Michael told me they were going to buy me an ADATA drive as a replacement for it. The ADATA drives are a budget SSD (which this one supposedly was not when I purchased it). I told them I would not accept that after everything I have been through and requested if they were going to replace it after the wait time I have endured and the ridiculous issues I have endured that they replace it with the larger 240GB or refund my money. He told me the manager said no because it costs too much money.

Other Thoughts: I requested a call from the manager to discuss and he told me the manager was out of country on a vacation (not the first time I requested to speak with the manager and told he was out of the country on vacation). They refuse to return my calls and emails.

If you google Zalman support complaints, this is a common problem with Zalman. They refuse to back their own products and instead look to others online to fix their problems instead!

I strongly urge people to stay away from ALL Zalman products!!

4 out of 5 eggsWorking Fine! Not Lightning.

Pros: Nothing to say but the drive was cheap and performs better than a STD HDD. Recommended for anyone with an older PC and a super slow drive. Do the firmware update. I ran into a couple of snags going from 3.4.3 to 3.6.5. (You have to use ADATA S599 Firmware Upgrade Tool V2.0. The pkg file is included in the dload). Make sure you elevate the prives of the updater or you will not be able to detect your drive. It will show the drive as a 120GB drive in the ADATA software. Seems to work fine but time will tell.

Cons: Support from zalman is not there. Dload page stinks and their forum is down for 8 weeks as posted on their site. Really?

Other Thoughts: Drive works, did a fresh install of w7. Boots and performs. Good enough in my book. Now let’s start the clock before I call in the warranty due to failure.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap - Tried to get it work. I would give it a five eggs if better instructions comes with the product.

Cons: Instruction does not show hoe to format the drive.

Other Thoughts: I don't know how this device performs. I got it today, plug it in via USB, Windows message comes up "Device ready to use." I bring up Windows Explorer, the drive did not show up. Bring up the device manager, zalman drive shows up with "This device is working properly". I check the volume tab, it appears all blank value. I guess I need to format the drive but don't know how? I hope that someone could help me to properly format this drive

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It was cheap and seems to have worked well

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Not the first choice, a friend of mine didn't even know Zalman made SSDs, but given the rebate and it was a better price point choice compared to other manufacturers. About $1.80 per GB.

Cloned my files from my smaller SSD on to this one. Now, maybe, I can assure myself that I won't have to constantly run CCleaner every couple days to free up space!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Basic SSD

Pros: fairly fast for daily use; the price has dropped another $20 since last week (now down to $0.40 per GB, which is about the lowest per GB price on SSD right now).

Cons: even though the drive is advertised as 128 GB, due to SF1200's reservation of 15% disk space for provision/longevity, the after-format size is only 112 GB, which is what you get from most 120 GB SSD's that are based on different controllers.

Other Thoughts: if, like me, you feel the urge to get the latest firmware, you can get ADATA S599 Firmware Upgrade Tool V2.0 (firmware 3.65) and the flashing process is very fast and easy (can't tell you if it made any difference to performance, though, because I flashed it before I benched it). Again, this would not be a first, or even second, choice if you want the newest/fastest, but for people just getting in on SSD and still have SATA II motherboards, this is an affordable choice that's a big upgrade from a mechanical drive. Zalman S series SSD is also on sale. Based on J-M controller, it is appreciably slower than N series. N-series offers more "flexibility", giving you the option to use it as an external drive through the USB connector. But seriously, why buy an SSD, only to hobble it with USB (it performs just like any USB mechanical HD).

1 out of 5 eggsDon't EVER Buy Zalman!!!

Pros: At the time of purchase it was my second choice. I anted the Mushkin but they were always out of it. So I settled on the Zalman. It was a decent speed increase for the first two months or so.

Cons: Zalman is a terrible company. You are regarded as less then a number on the wall. Their tech support takes FOREVER to get back to you. They do not answer their phones and take over a week to respond via email. They do not keep their firmware up to date and try using the excuse that you need to go to the chip manufacturer to get firmware updates (as specified by others!). The N Series SSD is very buggy and problematic. This is due to the extremely outdated firmware. It creates extra wear and tear on the drive which inevitably results in the total failure of the SSD (which it now has on mine!!!!). Stay away from these drives!!

Other Thoughts: Do your homework!! Zalman has garnered themselves and absolutely terrible reputation for pushing garbage products and having some of the worst customer support of any of the foreign computer hardware companies. This information is very easy to find by simply googling it.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and affordable

Pros: very cheap AR price ($0.6/GB); fairly fast (WEI 7.6), based on Sandforce 1200 controller; runs cool like all SSD's; supports TRIM

Cons: no accessory at all (adapter bracket or screws); little to no support from Zalman's web site (no firmware update from Zalman; but can be easily flashed with ADATA's more updated firmware (3.6.5 vs Zalman's 3.4) and still identified by Windows as a Zalman drive)

Other Thoughts: This would not be my first choice for newer motherboards; but for those that still use a SATA 2 MB or just want a budget SSD, this is a decent choice.
