3 out of 5 eggsSolid product, albeit misleading specifications

Pros: Great customer support gave me a quick response to my inquiry about driver support under Linux. Their answer was spot-on, the "driver-less" design is plug and play with Ubuntu 14.04.

Cons: Don't buy this if you want extra USB 3.0 ports. The cable for the ports on the front are plugged into the USB ports on the back of the motherboard. These do NOT plug into the USB 3.0 header on the motherboard. So you give up two USB 3.0 ports on the back to have two USB 3.0 ports on the front of the computer case.

3 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 Header Purpose?

Pros: Reasonable price & features. 5.25" slot install a plus.

Cons: What is the purpose of the 3.0 header on the MB if not for activating the USB 3.0 ports on the card reader. Mystified about using 2 of my MB 3.0 ports to activate the panel. Who uses 1394 anymore? Too many cables(6).

Other Thoughts: It does have a thin brushed aluminum face plate.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: This all in one card reader will read virtually all of the different memory cards from a single interface. The reader occupies a full 5 1/4 slot giving the reader a very polished appearance. I have a case without any 3 1/2 inch slots so rather than buy one of those and a 5 1/4 inch adapter I buy the full size reader instead.

All in all this is a very nice reader.

Cons: The reader comes with two cables and a pass through bracket for the USB 3.0 functionality to be provided from the USB 3.0 sockets on the back of the computer. My motherboard contains an internal 20 pin USB 3.0 socket so I would have preferred that the unit come with an adapter so that I could plug the cables into my motherboard. As it is, I lose the two USB 3.0 sockets on the back of my machine.

The unit was made in China and the package reflects it. There are several spelling errors such as memory car slot instead of memory card slot, Hingh Definition instead of High Definition, and Eaphone jack instead of Earphone jack. It does make one wonder about the quality control at NMEDIAPC.

Other Thoughts: I purchased a USB 3.0 adapter so that I can reclaim my two USB ports on the back of the machine. When I get the adapter in then I will have to find room to coil up all of the extra cable from the USB 3.0 cables since they will no longer be coming out of the back of the computer.

If you are wanting a memory card reader to fit in a 5 1/4 inch slot I think that you would be happy purchasing this reader.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfectly

Pros: All ports and connectors that I've tried work perfectly. I haven't tried eSATA or 1394 yet, but I probably never will.
Owned this for 2 months with no problems.

I get full USB3 speeds from the USB connectors.
The memory card readers and the USB2 connector work perfectly.
The audio port outputs great audio.

Cons: No Cons.

Other Thoughts: I bought this 'cause the audio port on my case stopped working. This was a great replacement. I also needed some USB3 ports in the front.

Because of its short depth, I had to screw this into place on the both sides of the case. Simply using the case's built in screwing mechanism will not work 'cause that generally only tightens one side, which is generally enough for DVD drives, but not for this. You will likely have to screw in the other side as well.

I saw that the USB3 ports were just extension cables before I bought this unlike most people who reviewed this product.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: easy installation, good compatibility with the different cards, usb 2.0, usb 3.0 and Firewire all in one

Cons: slots for the cards are very tight with some resistance and requires some wiggle to align. SD card will not read.

Other Thoughts: I have not tested firewire, but will probably not bother as the main features do not work. Will send back.

1 out of 5 eggsSave your money!!

Pros: It has a pretty box.

Cons: You can tell the workmanship before you open the box. Words like: "specitfications", "Memory car slots", "Hingh Definition" . It doesn't create new ports. Each connector is nothing but a wire with the same type of connection at the other end. (You already must have a USB3 for it to give you a USB3...etc..) Each port on the "card reader" has a wire to tie into the motherboard. As you can see it has a lot of wires! The device does have a board. But that board is nothing more than surface connectors with direct connects from one wire to the next. No PCI, No SATA. No technology at all..Just an empty device without a single circuit. What an absolute waste of money and time.. Save your money... buy anything else!!!

2 out of 5 eggsMediocre at best

Pros: Has all the connectors you're likely to want, in a 5.25" size and a reasonable price.

Cons: Very flimsy. Very poor fit to a 5.25" bay. Odd screws meant I had to work around my standard install setup. No internal USB3 connectors--you have to run through a plate and into other external connectors. The first one was RMA'd because of a faulty SD card reader.

Other Thoughts: I had naively expected that the firewire and e-sata ports would route through the SATA connection. They do not--you need spare internal connections, which was a shame.

3 out of 5 eggsPoor fit

Pros: Has everything you'll need in a card reader, in 5.25" bay size.

Cons: The worst fit to a bay I've ever seen. I might as well have used a 3.5" with an adapter.

Other Thoughts: No idea about actual performance, yet.

3 out of 5 eggsdo you want to use USB 3.0 mobo headers?

Pros: see "other thoughts"

Cons: see "other thoughts"

Other Thoughts: The nMEDIAPC ZE-C288 Fan Controller & CARD READER [N82E16811996038] is worth considering, since it (according to the photos and description details) uses motherboard USB 3.0 headers

1 out of 5 eggsNot as compatible

Pros: right face size

Cons: did not fit in my case particularly. I couldn't get it to screw on properly. and it came with usb outs instead of ins.
