4 out of 5 eggsNot for IBM 'Chipkill' Servers!

Pros: It's Registered, ECC, DDR2 400MHz. Should be good for legacy servers.

Cons: Dual-rank is apparently not compatible with IBM x336 or x346 series servers.

Knocked off a star because of suspicion that one kit was faulty, then the extremes I had to go to for technical support and returns.

Other Thoughts: The sparse IBM documentation does not specify single vs dual-rank requirement. I ended up having two different incompatible sets of RAM needing returned.

A call to Kingston Technical Support enabled them to look-up these finicky servers. Apparently, even though it's not specified anywhere I can find, they require single-rank instead of dual-rank RAM.

Nobody could explain why, with two kits, they would partially work in one of the two servers, configured like AABB, but not as BBAA. Didn't work at all in either config in the other server. Suspect that one of the two kits was faulty, but no way to test since the servers won't use it properly. Neither kit worked in either server on its own.

Kudos to Newegg for their help with these returns!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in Supermicro X6DVL-EG2 server board

Pros: Snapped right in, runs nice and stable, no issues after a couple of months.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice to have more options for these specs, as when I ordered, it was the only thing available (DDR2 400MHz registered ECC buffered SDRAM). And the price is a bit high, but that's the nature of the beast for aging hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsDell PE 2850

Pros: Ram probably fine.

Cons: Does NOT work in Dell PowerEdge 2850 as mentioned by another reviewer earlier. This ram is dual-rank, the Dell PowerEdge requires single-rank. We'll have to eat restocking fee now. My own fault I know, for not seeing this before I place the order. Hopefully this saves someone else from wasting their time.

Pros: I popped 8Gb worth (4 sticks) in my box, and now linux only swaps when I make a large mistake on the command line, has made my computer really snappy.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM for Supermicro X6DH8-G2+

Pros: As with several of the other posters here, I've been having a hard time finding memory that actually works with a Supermicro X6DH8-G2+ motherboard. This stuff did the trick... excellent server memory. Now running w/ 5 Gigs, the system is sufficient for server functions.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: None... cheap RAM that works well. Kingson is usually a good call.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked great with Supermicro X6DH8-G2+

Pros: Supermicro X6DH8-G2+ motherboard. Struggling to find RAM that works. This stuff worked great. Server has been running on 2GB ram and STRUGGLING. Now it's up to 6GB and working much better. Will be ordering another kit once it's back in stock.

Cons: It's not cheaper?

5 out of 5 eggsThese work in an sc1420 memory fan hack

Pros: Great works with sc1420 dell servers

Cons: Need extra fan if going over 4 gigs look at Other Thoughts for details

Other Thoughts: AT OWN RISK: Will save you hundreds.
As dodo and bpd said, these work in an sc1420. The BIOS requires you to have a memory fan if you have over 4GB installed. I found some fans you can use any three prong fan. Remove the black plug-in assembly on the board with needle nose pliers be careful doing this. You have to make sure the red lead is in the middle and cut the brown sense wire and solder it to the black ground wire and then you can add the full 8GB in your sc1420. FYI I zip tied my case fan so that it pointed at the memory. This works for Dimension 470 and 670 machines also. You can only use the first 4 slots. Slots 5 & 6 are only available if you use single rank memory in all six slots.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Well Packaged, good DIMM sets for server ram on a Supermicro X6DH8-G2

Cons: Ordered 12 Gigs (3 banks of 4) a 2Gig chip was DOA, 8 Gigs working fine as of now.

Other Thoughts: Sometimes this happens..RMA ordered should receive new Dimms soon
