5 out of 5 eggsNot for IBM 'Chipkill' Servers!

Pros: It's Kingston. I suspect all sticks purchased work properly.

Rather inexpensive for ECC / Registered DDR2!

Cons: Does not work in IBM xSeries 336 or 346 servers. Don't waste your time and effort with those models - they are a tad too picky for this RAM =(

I fault the proprietary, legacy servers, however, and not the RAM. 5-stars for Kingston all the way!

Other Thoughts: Nobody seems to know exactly what will and will not work in these proprietary IBM servers that want 'Chipkill' DDR2! IBM even specifies that 'Chipkill RAM is not necessary'.

According to IBM, all that is 'required' is ECC, Registered RAM. Apparently this is not the case, as both servers absolutely refuse to work with this RAM.

My best guess is that the server doesn't like the speed on these sticks, but it's only a guess. Off to try some different Kingston RAM, because I sure don't want to shell out for the over-priced, IBM-part-number stuff!

5 out of 5 eggsGood ram at a great price

Pros: This ram works just fine in two Dell Power Edge 1800 servers I've used it for. One has been running 4 GB of this ram for over a year with no problems. We just acquired another used 1800 server and it's got 8 GB in it now. The 4 GB machine is running Server 2003 with Exchange and the newer one is running Server 2008 with SQLserver.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Compatable Dell 670 Server

Pros: Inexpensive relative to others

Cons: Does not register with BIOS as ECC on attempted start-up.
Can not be used in any pair configuration, Dim 1-6, single or dual ranked, without error either immediately on power-up or at BIOS on startup.

1 out of 5 eggsNot recognized as ECC in Dell 670

Pros: None

Cons: Bios sees this as non-ECC. Of course it can't be mixed with ECC ram. So it
simply doesn't work in a Dell Precision 670. I tried it in various slots in two
machines.
Note that nowhere on the parts' labels is ECC indicated.

Other Thoughts: I bought these on 3/12, but didn't try to install until today. Hope I can still get
a refund.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not work in Precision 470

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Does not work in a Precision 470. Not recognized as ECC and not available to the O/S (64bit Linux, the BIOS sees the modules installed as non-ECC, but this is not reflected in total available memory.)

5 out of 5 eggsGood stuff

Pros: Works great on my server. They seem to be pretty fast, and don't have any problems detected with memtest. Price is great.

Cons: Nothing I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Installed 16 gigs on a Tyan S2912G2NR.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great in Dell PowerEdge 2850

Pros: I got these as a cheap alternative to the expensive server rated ram. Worked great in a Dell PowerEdge 2850.

Cons: None, just have to remember the 2850 requires pairs.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Installed without a hitch in my Tyan Thunder S2927. Price is right.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: 4x2 Gb for 8 Gb total in Tyan Thunder S2927 with dual Operton 2220. Currently running Win 7, believe it or not.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM

Pros: Great RAM at a great price.

Cons: heats up a bit under heavy load

Other Thoughts: ended up putting a fan over the RAM to keep temps down, runs good though even without the fan.
