Pros: Cheap

Cons: Not sure how it would last and whether how the warranty is in case of failure.

2 out of 5 eggsWarning: Does not work in Dell Precision 690

Pros: It may not be the fault of this product.

Cons: I have no way of telling. But even though the specs for this device match the requirements of a Dell Precision 690 (a 5-year old Xeon system), the memory is not recognized by the system. The BIOS doesn't report any memory present

Other Thoughts: When buying memory for older computers, be careful! They're very finicky.

5 out of 5 eggsCheck compatibility first

Pros: Works great. Tested 16GB (4x4GB) for 5 passes with no issues.

Cons: The packaging for one of the DIMMs was openned already when I received it. Sloppy, sloppy Newegg!

Other Thoughts: Check on your motherboard manufactures website for compatibility first before purchasing. That way you will not ending up like the person a few posts down who is obviously way out of his/her element here. You probably should stick to desktops, buddy. :-)

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Certified for my SuperMicro motherboard. Works great.

Cons: Upgraded from 1GB sticks and the server wouldn't boot anymore. May have been unrelated. After I got tired of the SuperMicro support run around, I flashed the bios using a different chassis and that did the trick.

Other Thoughts: The previous reviewers who rated this product a 1 egg obviously didn't research this item for compatibility before buying it. This is no fault of the product. The manufacturer product page link provides all the additional details, such as the fact it is quad ranked. Actually, you can just look at the Kingston item numbers for many details. I will explain this item's model number for the sake of others... KVR667D2Q8F5/4G breakdown: KVR = Kingston ValueRAM; 667 = 667 MHz; D2 = DDR2; Q = Quad ranked; 8 = x8 bit, F = Fully Buffered, 5 = Casual latency of 5 (5-5-5 in this case), \4G = 4 GB in size.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks just fine

Pros: Got to love nimrods who give bad reviews because the didn't know what they were ordering. Anyway ... This RAM works just fine. I am running VMWare ESXi on a SuperMicro server.

Cons: It does run hot but I think most FB does. The heat spreaders help.

1 out of 5 eggsConfusing

Pros: Probably works great!

Cons: Doesn't fit in a standard 240pin DIMM slot.

Other Thoughts: This is apparently different than normal 240Pin DDR2. That FB-DIMM matters, it's not just a different type of ram (the state of being fully buffered) but it's a different socket. Bought four sticks of this stuff and had to RMA it because it DOESN'T FIT STANDARD DIMM. <-- Caps for importance!

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with HP workstations

Pros: All the specs you need for a HP XW series workstation

Cons: This is "quad-rank" memory instead of "dual rank" memory and my HP XW8400 workstation would not even boot with this stuff installed. Not recommended for HP.

Other Thoughts: Probably works great for some computer out there, but not mine.

3 out of 5 eggsDO NOT buy for a Dell Poweredge SC1430

Pros: I'm sure it works just great . . . just not in the above machine.

Cons: Does not work in a Dell Poweredge SC1430, which requires single-or dual-ranked DIMMs. These are quad-ranked DIMMs (doesn't say it here . . . had to check the manufacturer's data sheet to see what was going on).

Other Thoughts: You can find the dual-ranked version of these DIMMs here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134875

They work great in a Dell Poweredge SC1430.
