2 out of 5 eggsFAST, at first...

Pros: Out of the box, this was a treat. My first SSD and I was glad to spend the extra money for the speed of this drive. from the moment I clicked "restart" it would take it less than a minute to be up and running again.

Cons: Little over a month of ownership, this drive just flat out failed! I installed Win7 on this drive over 3 times and it just kept giving up on me.

Other Thoughts: If you're going to buy a SSD, get a good one. Usually means, not a cheap one.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very fast install and read speeds. I couldnt be happier

Cons: Waiting on M.I.R.

Other Thoughts: I got this one B/C the 40 gb was out of stock. At the time of order it was about 5-10 dollars more but it came with a 30 MIR. So I said to myself why not.

4 out of 5 eggsLags after time

Pros: Works amazing, but there is a catch to it. I should have bought the 128GB drive now that I think about it, but oh well. The Drive software didn't want to work for me at first, but

Cons: After my laptop has been running for a days time (24 hours) the laptop will lag or shutter for about 30 seconds and it is frustrating. Simple restarts reset this problem. Girlfriend is loosing her patience with me cause of this issue.

Other Thoughts: Acer Laptop running Vista 32 bit, 2 GB Ram. My girlfriend is computer illiterate. She locks up hard drives and in some cases had fried hard drive before with over use, thought this was a good idea, but I'll give it another week.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price, but slows down considerably over time...

Pros: Off the bat, its a blazing drive for the price. I bought the same SSD, but the desktop bundled one and used it for Windows XP and did all of the recommended tweaks for it. Its a little more than half as fast as say an OCZ Vertex(which I now own two of), but I also snagged one of these for around $100, so you couldnt beat the price to try it out at the time.

Cons: Over time I have found this drive to slow down ALOT. Kingston never released any Bios updates or made any TRIM type software to restore the drive to its original speed. I would say that now it runs no faster than a regular HD, plus I often has stuttering issues that I did not at first. It'll hang up for a few seconds on firefox, or other similar programs pretty often.

Other Thoughts: Overall a decent buy for the money and a good starter SSD, but invest in something better that has higher read/write speeds with TRIM support or some sort.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy install especially with included duplication software. Nice to the have the extra hard drive enclosure for the replaced 80GB SATA. More secure traveling with the laptop knowing there are less moving parts inside. While I don't recommend it, my laptop could probably handle a few drops and more airline travel then before. The laptop is really really quiet now.

Cons: Still a little pricey for the gigabyte to dollar ratio, but you are purchasing access speed and data security, not storage space. Would expect prices to continue to drop over time, but the rebate was helped me decide.

Other Thoughts: Just my opinion, but boot times on Win7 are better and I no longer need to worry about defragmenting the disk.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat netbook SSD!

Pros: - Relatively inexpensive for its size and for what you get.
- Drops right into a standard 2.5" SATA drive bay.
- Not the fastest SSD out there but it's pretty quick nonetheless.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace the 160GB HD in my Gateway LT31 series netbook (an Athlon64 based system w/2GB of RAM). This drive gave the machine the shot in the arm that it badly needed. To put it in perspective, any 1st gen SSD with a JMicron controller would run like greased lightning in comparison.

OS boot time (Vista X64) dropped to almost 20 seconds (to logon prompt). System is very snappy now and is lag and stutter free.

Here's the info on it using Crystal Diskmark (x64). Original disk first:

Sequential Read : 54.685 MB/s
Sequential Write : 52.692 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 19.563 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 26.870 MB/s
Random Read 4KB : 0.233 MB/s
Random Write 4KB : 0.754 MB/s

Sequential Read : 108.919 MB/s
Sequential Write : 59.621 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 104.596 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 46.626 MB/s
Random Read 4KB : 10.071 MB/s
Random Write 4KB : 1.630 MB/s

Well worth the money! I'll definitely buy from Kingston again!

5 out of 5 eggsWOOT!

Pros: The external kit didn't arrive DOA this time.

Cons: The external kit is different from the picture.

Other Thoughts: I first bought the 128GB version from Newegg (N82E16820139005) and the external kit that came with that was DOA and I was sad and had to order a separate external kit.

Opened this one up and put it together and it worked!!! Most likely will continue to buy Kingston SSD's since they are good quality for a good price (not to mention Newegg always rocks!).

1 out of 5 eggsDon't do it, it's a waste of money!

Pros: Enclosure works well.

Cons: Performs worse than much cheaper mechanical Hard Drives in real world use.
No TRIM Support
No planned Firmware Upgrade
No refunds allowed, only replacements!

Other Thoughts: I've wanted an SSD for a while and was hoping to boost to the performance on my laptop that came with a 320GB 5400 RPM Fujitsu HD (MHZ2320BH-G2).

This SSD wasn't much of an upgrade and in some cases it's a downgrade!

Crystal Disk Mark and HD Tune Pro both showed the SSD faster than the FJ by about 100% read and 50% write speeds. But those numbers just don't equate to real world performance. The following are average times I got with other tasks.

FJ Win7 Boot: 43s
SSD Win7 Boot: 45s

FJ Shutdown: 14s
SSD Shutdown: 12s

FJ Start Company of Heroes: 73s
SSD Start Company of Heroes: 55s

FJ Start CoH Tutorial: 46s
SSD Start CoH Tutorial: 50s

The drive does not come with TRIM support & there is no planned firmware upgrades for this drive, so I expect the SSD's performance is going to get even worse.

After the rebate I paid $1.87/GB, yet a 320 GB, 5400 RPM HD can be had for $0.18/GB. So, you're paying 10x for the same or even worse real world performance.

1 out of 5 eggsis not recognized as a boot device

Pros: came with a nice enclosure. That was very thoughtful.

Cons: I installed it into my laptop (toshiba satellite pro) and it is detected as a HDD but not as a drive that is bootable. Windows would not allow me to do a clean install. I have messed with all configurations of BIOS. I have done a clean install onto another HDD and imaged it to the Kingston. I have looked for drivers and updated BIOS as well. Nothing I have done makes this HDD detect has a bootable system drive.

Other Thoughts: Fast shipping from newegg...unfortunately my money is basically flushed down the toilet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD Will purchase many more

Pros: I have experienced several disappointments when it comes to SSD technology in the past. That was not the case with these however. Out of the packaging they work excellent, no tweaking of the OS required. They just perform as advertised. I was somewhat concerned about the write speed when I ordered but they easily outperform most rotational drives. I ran a side by side comparison installing Win7 Ultimate on two Acer Revo's and the SSD won hands down. Im certain the only limitation there was the underpowered Atom. The enclosures they came with were a nice plus (screwless design ++). The physical SSD itself is very sharp looking and would look nice in a HTPC build. The construction is solid and the drives perform well in a HOSTILE (extreme emphasis on hostile) environment.

Cons: None. I was very pleased. This will be my SSD of choice until something better comes along for the price.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend this SSD as I have tried many of the others. You are not likely to find this level of quality and performance unless you want to spend alot more.
