Dramatically increase the performance of your existing system with Kingston's SSDNow V solid-state drive! Aimed at everyday users and small to medium businesses, the second-generation Kingston SSDNow V Series improves the performance of the drive without increasing the price and supports Windows 7 TRIM functionality, which helps the SSD maintain high performance through the life of the drive. Adding an SSD to a desktop already using a standard hard disk drive is a smart and efficient way to upgrade. Transferring the operating system and applications from the HDD to the SSD allows the SSD to be used as a bootable drive that takes full advantage of the Flash-based technology. The SSD and the HDD then co-exist to drive optimal performance in the upgraded desktop. For notebooks, SSDNow drives are a perfect replacement for hard drives resulting in faster, more reliable performance. Making this change will improve a notebook's efficiency in a wide range of tasks, from booting up to running the most robust operating system and demanding applications. The SSDNow V Series drive uses a standard SATA interface but, unlike a regular HDD, SSD is very rugged and built with no moving parts, making it ideal for power users and road warriors who push the limits of their notebooks. Other benefits include reduced power usage, less noise and less heat generation.

Kingston's SSDNow V Series offers performance gains and power consumption reductions at a fraction of the cost of a new system. For added peace of mind, they're backed by 24/7 tech support, a three-year warranty and legendary Kingston reliability.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Acting without any moving parts, the Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2/128GB solid-state drive boasts multiple advanced features including zero mechanical noise, faster data rates compared to conventional HDDs, over 1-million-hour life span, ultra-low power consumption and impressive shock, vibration and extreme temperature resistance. With these breakthrough capabilities, the SSD meets all the demanding requirements for high-performance storage.
  • newegg Windows 7 TRIM Support The Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2/128GB solid-state drive offers Windows 7 TRIM support, which uses ATA commands to increase the SSD write speeds in Windows 7. It also cuts down on the amount of data to be deleted, increasing the SSD’s lifespan and allowing it to delete garbage data in advance.
  • newegg SATA 3.0 Gb/s Interface The Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2/128GB solid-state drive features the next-generation SATA II interface supporting up to 3.0 Gb/s data transfer rates, Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and hot-pluggable point-to-point connections for optimum performance, efficiency, convenience and flexibility.

1 out of 5 eggsThis product sucks

Pros: Not many pros. Slow as a slug write and read and 80% of these poop out.

Cons: - Doesn't work anymore
- Slow speeds

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't recommend to anyone. This drive is slow and cheaply made.

4 out of 5 eggssolid but not much faster than 10,000 rpm raptor

Pros: Faster write and read speeds than my 10,000rpm raptor.

Cons: Haven't noticed a huge difference with the switch to solid state from my 10,000rpm raptor drive I had previously.

Other Thoughts: DOTA

1 out of 5 eggsDont do it!!

Pros: 2nd one works

Cons: First one came not working correctly. Did a RMA and receive new one which is working but the last digit of the UPC code is different from the UPC on the rebate, so im out of luck. I dont know why newegg would send me a new one which does not match the UPC on the rebate form. If this issue is not resolved I will never buy anything from newegg.

Other Thoughts: Buy a corsair instead

2 out of 5 eggsfast, but it died

Pros: well, all i can say about this product is that it was fast. no problem installing linux. i was satisfied with the product

Cons: after a few weeks it began freezing and not responding. it had all the symptoms of a bad ssd. now i'm stuck with a regular HDD

Other Thoughts: this is what you get when you buy tech thats just hitting the consumer lever.. buggy hardware. i can wait till it drops further and then i'll buy another better name brand

4 out of 5 eggsGreat First

Pros: - Faster than a non-SSD
- Got a great deal from Newegg Shell Shocker

Cons: My ONLY gripe is that this drive refuses to wake from sleep... the machine will wake, but the drive won't. Googling this will reveal it's a problem others have run into with not only this particular drive, but other Kingston drives as well. However, I've gotten around this by setting up my laptop to hibernate instead of sleep, which is a little annoying but tolerable because of the drive speed.

Other Thoughts: This is my first SSD, but I did my research and knew full well this wasn't going to be a top-end, in-your-face, speedy-gonzales SSD. I was expecting about a 30% increase of speed from my 7200 RPM Dell laptop drive and that's what I got. I'm still in love with my three-year-old laptop and trying to extend its life a bit as I'm not too satisfied with current offerings from laptop manufacturers. This drive brought my laptop's Win7 drive score up and eliminated quite a bit of noise. I was hoping to eliminate all the heat too, but unfortunately my laptop still runs hot, but that's not this drive's fault (nVidia video and CPU). However, my machine's fans kick-in a lot less and for less time than it used to so that's a perk.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Fun SSD's Rule!

Pros: F A S T !! Cold boot is as fast as a sleep start! Fast on IDE (180/140MBs R/W) or ACHI (213/157MBs R/W) bios settings (benchmarks by ATTO Disc Benchmark utility), silent of course. $118 after manufacturers rebate!! on a Shell Shocker deal (I was shocked!). Backups are faster too.

Cons: It's not $50 bucks? but seriously, none so far. I'm not a gamer but I have streamed a ton of HD content from multiple sources, with no stutters, stammers or freezes what so ever. It doesn't come preformatted so you can mirror your old drive directly from a backup, the notebook kit takes care of that and more though.

Other Thoughts: Your hard drive is your biggest bottleneck in any computer system. It's not your processor speed or the number of simultanious running cores you have or your memory speed (although the amount of ram is equally important to overall performance) its that darn mechanical rotating disc that lags along sucking power, producing additional heat, noise and vibration, while the rest of your system waits for the results of it's orbital search. Simply stated, the Solid State Drive is the cure for what ails your computer system. PS It's a good idea to have or purchase a 2.5" enclosure to mirror or tranfer your files and programs to your new SSD.

2 out of 5 eggs2008 called, wants its JMicron controllers back

Pros: Price-capacity is waaay better than other SSDs.

Cons: The JMF618 controller in this drive was originally reviewed as not keeping up with the first-gen Indilinx. Since then we have next-gen Intel, SandForce, next-gen SandForce, and in the works is next-gen Indilinx. This drive is not comparable to other 128GB SATA2 SSDs.

Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to get a clue and add the controller to the standard set of specifications listed for all SSDs (and make it searchable). For right now, any off-brand drive (i.e. other than Intel and OCZ) is just a grab-bag as far as performance and compatibility go. Sure some of them are using SandForce, but you wouldn't know from the product listing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Hard Drive Upgrade

Pros: Super quiet, but all SSD's are.....easy to install.....very fast preformance. Easily cut my boot up time in half on my Macbook Pro (2010 edition).

Cons: Hasn't really effected batter life that I can see. I didn't think it would make a huge difference, but I can't see any difference at all.
