5 out of 5 eggsOf course it won't work in x8sil

Pros: It's Kingston, which is reliable quality ram

Cons: It doesn't work with a motherboard that everyone knows it won't work in.

Other Thoughts: x8sil takes x8 dimms for ecc registered, not x4. It is ridiculous that someone would down vote this ram for their own user error

5 out of 5 eggsworks as indicated

Pros: my server board can only do 1333 with 6 sticks, so it was nice to replace 8x4gb sticks with 6x8gb sticks- more ram and faster too

Cons: here is a con, you have to say a con about a product- so yea, the ram isn't translucent, I didn't bring about world peace, its sold on a site that requires some type of con

Other Thoughts: if you have a server that uses this specific type of ram, I'd recommend getting an upgrade now- that's what I did; server I have is about 3 years old, current ram type seems to be phasing out, price is pretty low;

2 out of 5 eggsIncompatible with X8SIL-F

Pros: Kingston has always been a pretty solid brand.

Cons: Although it's listed as registered DDR3 ECC RAM dual rank 72-bit RDIMM, it was incompatible with a Supermicro X8SIL-F motherboard. Long continuous tone at power up, flashes the LE3 LED on the mobo, no POST. Sad tech.

Other Thoughts: The manual for the X8SIL-F states: "The X8SIL/X8SIL-F/X8SIL-V supports up to 32GB of Registered ECC DDR3 or up to 16GB of unbuffered ECC DDR3 SDRAM (1.5V, 1333/1066/800MHz)." Kinda blows that I'm out $20 to RMA this supposedly compatible RAM.

Going to try some unbuffered Kingston RAM that another reviewer had success with on an X8SIL-F.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the issue you are having. However, the memory you purchased is not a recommended part for your Supermicro X8SIL-F. Although the specifications appear to be correct, it is not compatible. You may view a complete list of compatible Kingston memory here: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/Default.aspx?DeviceType=7&Mfr=SMI&Line=X8SIL-F&Model=57886
