5 out of 5 eggsStill working

Pros: I've had this for a year and 7 months and it's working great still, has since the day I put it in.

Cons: Slow for a SSD but still faster than a normal HDD.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for less than a year

Pros: Cheaper than most
Worked great while it lasted

Cons: I had 2 of these raided together, and then it started failing within 6 months. After I re-installed windows I thought I had fixed the problem. But it was the hard drives that failed.

Other Thoughts: Would have been an amazing buy if only it worked for more than 1 year.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid state drive

Pros: Any desktop computer will perfom faster than ever. I can use my PC for another 8 years without performance degration. If Windows 8 comes along, all I need to do is an O.S. upgrade. Cheers.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: If you like more advice send e-mail to newegg.com and ask them to forward it to me.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Reasonably priced, small general purpose drive.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: Don't use SSD for swap space! You don't have unlimited "writes" with SSD and the rapid volatility of paging will very quickly shorten the life of your drive. If paging is a problem for you, and throwing hardware at it is your solution, try throwing RAM :-)

3 out of 5 eggsFallow up

Pros: Very stable and decent random 4k read write.

Cons: I bought this drive last year and used it as a paging drive for virtual memory swap. There have been no other uses with this drive such as a normal os install or programs ect. Besides the virtual memory there has been nothing else to the drive.

Current hours of use as I am writing this is 3267 and looking at smart data for A9 unknown attribute the data is sky high at 33685738 in HDTune. AA and AD attribute look similar. The machine has had some limited but increasing stability issues as it neared 3k hours use.

Other Thoughts: I want to know if I can still rma this being that it is discontinued according to Kingstone web site?

I would have at least thought that this drive would last longer than it has but at least not entirely dead yet. Performance has only seen slight degradation.

Manufacturer Response:

Although it is discontinued, it has a warranty for three years from your date of purchase. Please give Kingston Tech Support a call at 800-435-0640. We can get your RMA started if you call from 6am-6pm PT, M-F.

4 out of 5 eggsdon't use as only drive in system

Pros: Light, silent, low power consumption. Got it on sale with a $20 rebate and the rebate only took about 4 weeks to get to me.

Cons: Not as fast in WIN7 as I thought it would be, even after tweaking all settings. It felt much faster with Ubuntu 10.10 on it. Heck, it shutdown in under three seconds.

Other Thoughts: Installed in Foxconn Nettop nt525 as sole drive for HTPC. But, I needed WIN7 to run Netflix and it did not "feel" fast. I got nervous about amount of drive being used even though I got WIN7 down to about 8 gigs installed. So I swapped this drive out for a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache. Will use the SSD as a boot drive in other PC.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for HTPC with NAS

Pros: Small, power efficient, silent. No elaborate driver setup, though Win7 did need some tweaks. Totally reliable thus far. 28 usable gigs is plenty for a Windows 7 home premium install. I'm using this for an HTPC setup, so just running WMC, iTunes, and XBMC, with room to spare. A 2TB NAS holds all the goods.

Cons: Small capacity, no included documentation, not the fastest, but all of those factors are to be expected.

Other Thoughts: This wee drive fits the bill perfectly for an HTPC with a NAS holding all the media that can be accessed by all the other computers in the house. Low power and quiet. My setup:
ASRock E350M1 miniITX MB/APU
hec ITX200A HTPC case
Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 DDR3 1066
Kingston SSDNow V series 30GB SSD
WD MyBook Live NAS
Win7 Home Premium

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect With A Purpose

Pros: Bought this to use as the system (and in fact only) drive in a Myth FE (HTPC). Meets all my requirements: adequate size, silent (obviously), low power, quick, and reasonably priced.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: When looking for a SSD drive, you really need a different mindset than looking for a mechanical one. Try to define your purpose and requirements first and you'll have a much easier time navigating thru the umpteen different products and rapidly changing technologies. Or you can stick to the age-old method of picking hard drives - "I want the biggest and fastest" - but be prepared to pay for it . . . a LOT. ;-)

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's supposed to

Pros: Fast, cheap and low power. I use it for the system drive on a Linux file server, and for that it's plenty big.

Cons: None observed.

5 out of 5 eggsworks

Pros: Not the fastest but it works very well.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Paired with an Asus E35M1-I DELUXE Zacate board in a Habey case.
