4 out of 5 eggsA bit slow but gets the job done

Pros: 8gb for a great price
Usb head pops in and out so it is not exposed when you don't want it to be
Has a little loop if you want to tie a string to it

Cons: Slow! It feels like a couple 100kb/s but realistically it copies 1 gig in about 3 minutes.
Feels cheap, but i toss it in my bags and of the 3 i bought, have yet to break one.

Other Thoughts: If you are using this for documents and music, it is spot on the device you should use for the money.
If you are using it as a backup device or to put portable apps on it or even to install an OS onto a netbook with it, it is just too slow.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Its Kingston!!!!! One of the best name brands in thumb drives/ Flsh drives you can buy. I like the slide feature on this thumb drive because I don't have to worry about loosing a cap. Very happy with purchase. Thanks new egg for another great purchase at a great price.

Cons: The sliding feature is a little stiff to slide back and fourth but I kind of like it that way because I don't have to worry about the USB sliding out of the capsule and breaking or getting caught on stuff.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for just over 2 weeks

Pros: Worked great when it was functional

Cons: Ordered on 12/17/2012 . Dead on 1/11/2013 after very little use. Drive will "mount", and gets a drive letter, but it says no media. Can't format, nothing. Kingston is going to RMA, but on my dime for shipping. This is my second dead drive from Kingston. Not worth the trackable shipping to warranty out.

5 out of 5 eggsNeeded safe cards to carry in my pants pocket

Pros: Great price and I love the fact that these do not have caps like the HP flash drives have. I carry a couple of these in my pants pocket to flash NCs (thin client machines). I had a 32GB from HP, but I lost the darn cap, so now I can't carry it with for fear of damaging the USB connector. With these Kingston Drives I have eliminated that fear because they don't have a cap. And they use a retractable USB head so it can't get damaged.

Pros: Great little device. I used it often to transfer and install AVAST, CCleaner, MalwareBytes, and other critical setup software to systems I repair. Great price.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Product

Pros: Got this for free with the Kingston laptop RAM deal a while back.

It worked as intended and is still chuggin along at its original speed. I've used it a lot for installing OSes and recoveries.

Cons: None whatsoever

2 out of 5 eggsReliable but very slow

Pros: I bought this as a no-frills simple USB drive from a trusted brand. My only real requirement was that it be capless. Caps suck.

It works. Hasn't died yet. Good right? Sort of. Read my cons below.

Cons: It's SLOW. Too slow to just call slow. I had to test it for you.

Here are my empirical findings...

Test Platform: High-end desktop with Intel 520 SSD as source/destination drive (no bottleneck here)
[I didn't rely on Windows speed calculation, which is abysmal. I took the elapsed time on a stopwatch, then calculated the speed myself.]

---Scenario 1: A single 1.13 GB video file---
READ... Elapsed time: 1m 14s | Speed: 15.62 MB/sec
WRITE... Elapsed time: 6m 55s | Speed: 2.78 MB/sec

Simply PATHETIC. Not even 3 MB/sec to write a single 1.1 GB file to this drive? This thing certainly won't work for those in an hurry.

--Scenario 2: 1.13 GB worth of 7299 small files (text files, images, PDFs, documents)---
READ... Elapsed time: 1m 46s | Speed: 10.88 MB/sec
WRITE... Elapsed time: 16m 11s | Speed: 1.19 MB/sec

It's common knowledge that a large amount of small files will take much longer, even if the total size is the same, but c'mon?! 16 minutes to write a little over 1 GB to this thing? Most of which was copied was images, so if you're the type who wants to take your photo collection on the go, this drive isn't ideal.

Other Thoughts: You're better off burning data to a blank DVD. The disc may hold half as much, but you can write 1.13 GB to it at 8x speed in under 2 minutes. And you can grab the data off the disc in like 30 seconds. Not to mention the cost of a single DVD-R works out to 25 cents.

...or just buy a better USB drive.

2 out of 5 eggsSLOW

Pros: Solid build, nice sliding cap. Activity light

Cons: Extremely slow writes - 3.4MBPS (copying a single 1.4GB video file). I have a PNY flash drive that copies the same file at 9.9MBPS. This is very unfortunate.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. But there are plenty of other flash drives or brands out there that are cheap and are much faster.

2 out of 5 eggsFAIL

Pros: It read the 8Gb. Was able to store customer data and do small transfers easier

Cons: Transfer speeds are slow. Failed after 2 weeks. I am unable to recover my data as the drive is no longer recognized by the computer and it locks the computer up in trying.

Other Thoughts: Was the first time trying Kingston. I have 2 4Gb flash drives that have yet to fail (Not Kingston). Kinda sucks as I thought they would put out a better product.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for home, not for travel

Pros: It works and it's inexpensive.

Cons: Not formatable to NTFS without using the command window. Plastic protector shroud does not stay locked over the USB connector.

Other Thoughts: This is just fine if you're going to keep it at home and back up pictures or small documents. For daily travel and large files, this is not a good product.
