1 out of 5 eggsFailed 4 times

Pros: Fast SSD, when it works

Cons: I have installed this on my macbook pro, and failed 3x, then I updated the firmware to the latest. It worked perfectly for a couple of months then it started acting slow again. the following day my macbook would not boot anymore, switched to a regular hdd and it worked perfectly.

Other Thoughts: Overall i will give it an egg for reliability. I will try to get an RMA from Kingston, otherwise I wouldn't spend anymore on Kingston SSD's

2 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

Pros: Worked great when it worked. Speeds as advertised. Windows7 boot up in about 12 seconds.

Cons: Very occassionally would not be recognized on start up. After about a year it blue screened and then subsequently refused to work. Luckily I backup. The data i snot recoverable. Compared to hard disks this isn't reliable at all.

Other Thoughts: I thought I would try these since thre price was right, sometimes you get lucky. Not this time. I got what I paid for, but not I am not entirely surprised. I'll stick with Intel and Samsung going forward. They cost more, but they're far more reliable.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: really fast

Cons: Drive failed 2 times but I just had to reimage drive.
Tried to update firmware but it could not find the drive. (there doesnt appear to be a way to change the bios [Dell XPS730] to change sata to IDE) (only options are RAID or AHCI)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer ,
We have discovered a technical issue with our SSDNow V100 which could result in drive failure. While we have observed this issue in only a small percentage of drives, Kingston strongly recommends that a new firmware update D110225a be applied to all V100 drives to prevent possible failure. Please open attached link for upgrade instructions.

NEW Firmware - D110225a
OLD Firmware - D100811a

3 out of 5 eggsNot for Mac Pro

Pros: Fast drive

Cons: Dont bother getting this one with the 2.5 to 3.5 brackets if you have a Mac Pro cause the brackets do not fit in the hard drive bay. The holes dont line up. Your better off getting the bare drive and the ICY DOCK MB882SP-1S-1B 2.5" to 3.5 adapter. its what I had to do and it fits fine now.

1 out of 5 eggsKeep looking

Pros: Fast

Cons: Failed after 45 days. Sure, there's a new firmware update (D110225a be applied to all V100 drives to prevent possible failure). But, it came out 3 weeks after I purchased the drive, and I was not notified and had no reason to look for it. It'll be interesting to see if the replacement drive comes with the firmware update.

It's better not to go through the firmware upgrade and/or the RMA process and restoring your computer. There are more reliable SSDs available for the money.

4 out of 5 eggsOnly if needed

Pros: Yes This drive is fast, but no where near 250mbs about 150, 170 max so don't be fooled by what they say.

Cons: If your a Music or Movie editor, then this drive is for you. but then again your movie software is slow as can be anyway, so its not going to help you out any.
Great for a laptop, due to the batt. life. but lets face it, no internet or network run at 200mbs so this is a waste of money. buy a laptop with a SSD already in it. until the price is with in reason I would say stay away, you can buy a 4 tb for the price of a 120gb ssd. my be slower but so is the software and computer you are using.

Other Thoughts: Buy a cheap 40gb to use as your startup drive and with the money you saved you can buy a 2tb hard drive to store your stuff on.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none

Cons: Failed in less than 30 days. Drive is not being detected by laptop or as an external usb drive. All my personal data is gone.

Before selecting this drive, I was told that SSD disks are more reliable then old magnetic drives because they have no moving parts inside. Looks like this is not entirely true…

Other Thoughts: Now it would take additional time and money to put a new OS and all other programs back when I receive replacement.
