4 out of 5 eggsBrought my laptop new life

Pros: I put this drive into an older laptop initially just to not have a HDD creating so much heat in my system. The difference in speed was immediately noticeable and it keeps the heat low as well. Just recently I actually moved it in a brand new laptop I got in 2013 instead of leaving the stock, new HDD inside it. I'll be riding this little SSD until I can't use it any more lol

Cons: While this little guy creates less heat than a HDD, it's not without heat. Make sure you try and keep it somewhere that your laptop can breath a little. If you're putting it in a desktop then this wouldn't bother you ;)

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 years

Pros: Certainly provided a great speed upgrade compared to a 7200rpm disc drive. Still under warranty.

Cons: Failed after 2 years.

Other Thoughts: Am working with Kingston on replacement. I have some concerns about what they will replace it with, the SV300S37A/60G. As well as being 4g smaller than the original, the only review for it on Newegg is less than complimentary as the drive only lasted a year. Still, will hope for the best.

1 out of 5 eggsExpensive paper weight

Pros: They worked at first.

Cons: My company bought three of these drives for our field techs with the expectation that they would be more tolerant to vibration. Two of the three drives failed within three months of use. The other drive was used to replace the first failed drive. I received a warranty replacement for the first drive but I think I'm just going to throw it in the trash since I can't trust it. Maybe I'll sell it on-line.

5 out of 5 eggsnotable upgrade compared to hdd

Pros: notable boot / initial program open increase from hdd
scores 6.7 on windows (7) experience index
$1/GB after rebate
no problem with rebate -- just followed instructions

Cons: using as an OS drive. after OS and regular programs (not games), I have 30 GB available space. you'll want to modify your 'libraries' to point to a traditional hdd if you have lots of music, pics, and video.

Other Thoughts: came with external enclosure and usb cable. this was labeled as a notebook upgrade kit...maybe the software lets you migrate your OS install from notebook hdd to this, then replace hdd with ssd? that would be convenient...i performed clean w7 install, though, and had no issues.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: upgraded an older sata 2 board and love this drive. i get that other drives bench better and this is older tech, but as a boot drive, the "real world" performance is excellent. pc sleeps/wakes w/o a hitch and has been rock solid for 6 weeks. yes, if you care about milliseconds, my other sata 3 ssd's are faster, but no comparison in value (especially when compared to some of the firmware challenges experienced with a couple of my other ssd's since i'll never recover the productivity lost with firmware upgrades, ssd blanking, & os reinstalls). no issue with the rebate either ... cheap for semi-new tech (especially with the price of harddrives going up).

Cons: after 6 weeks, I've not experienced any of the issues described below. of course each and every batch of hardware falls somewhere in a distribution, so maybe i got a good one? maybe some of the bad reviews were on the other tail?

Other Thoughts: might also be giving this drive a 5 because it’s been so painless compared to the effort with my other ssd's, and it did come with the latest firmware. this is running w/ w7 x64 on an amd platform, and am likewise happy with the latest amd ahci drivers that just came out several weeks ago (instead of the ms drivers)

4 out of 5 eggsSSDNow V200

Pros: It is very cheap/affordable after mail in rebate.

Cons: All these mail-in rebate promotions because they have a new line coming. It is reasonable but the speed is same as this one, with SATA III tho, again, the speed is same as this one, good job Kingston~

Other Thoughts: I don't mind to buy 2 of these for the next rebate promotion, because the new one will not have a good deal like this, because it is NEW but the speed is the same.

1 out of 5 eggsRebate center is horrible.

Pros: Cheap after mail in rebate, if you will receive the rebate.

I would never spend $2 per GB for a 2nd generation SSD.

Cons: My 2nd request bounced back because the promotion already expired, they didn't even bother to open it.

The first time I submitted it with 2 applications, I got the 1 check but not the 2nd one, so I called them, the rep. told me I just have to write a 2nd request on the mail... but it bounced back to me!

Other Thoughts: Why can't I email/fax if they lost my application? I mailed it with certification mail, it costed me $2.80, it is not my fault.

Why can't we email the rebate center? So I can have all their words in written email.

4 out of 5 eggsHuge Upgrade For Me

Pros: I put this in my ORIGINAL Black MacBook from 2006. It wasn't super slow when running one app with the regular HDD, but once 3 apps or more were running I would get the beachball. I don't even do anything intense. Chrome, Word, iTunes, Spotify. No Photoshop or Garage Band or anything like that. I installed a fresh copy of Snow Leopard onto the SSD and now everything is silky smooth. From completely OFF to ON with no lag, takes about 32 seconds. Apps open much faster than before. Using multiple apps doesn't bog this computer down anymore. The only issue I have is that a lot of my media is saved to an external HDD and the computer is slow accessing the info from that, but that's not something I lay blame on the SSD. The external HDD makes iPhoto and iTunes run SLOW at times.

Cons: I CAN'T GET THIS COMPUTER TO SLEEP ANYMORE! Now the computer just stays on 24/7 with maybe a weekly turn off/on. I think the issue is that the software is looking for something to "spin down" in order to go into SLEEP mode, but it's an SSD so there's nothing to indicate that the computer should sleep!. I don't know how to fix this! Not a dealbreaker for me though. I love this thing.
