1 out of 5 eggsPlagued with BSODs

Pros: SSD Performance

Cons: Intermittent BSOD issue

Other Thoughts: Sent the hdd back to Kingston and they said that there isn't a problem. I have installed this on two laptops and a desktop and all of them experience random BSOD (Win7 & Win 8.1). I ordered a replacement drive and will be contacting Kingston to get yet another warranty replacement.

2 Sony laptops
1 Desktop PC (Asus Motherboard)

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Troy,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Suppport. We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to determine exactly what may be occurring. The V200 has an available firmware update that alleviates a known issue and is made to restore the SSD's sequential write speed and improve the random read and write performance. It is available here: http://www.kingston.com/us/support/technical/downloads?product=SV200S3&filename=SV200S3_64G_128G_e120506a . The issue describe may not be related to the exact fix the firmware is meant for but could be affected by other minor fixes in the firmware. If the drive you have is already up to date, then there may be another issue occurring. We are here to help and if you are having continued issues with the drive we can replace it under it's three year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggsMy first SSD

Pros: This was my first SSD, and I bought it without being able to move my OS to it, so it sat on my desk for months before I was finally moved to install Windows on it. This ran it AMAZING and start times are just outstanding now.

Cons: Small, I don't have any way of mounting it into my case, so it sits on my desk connected to SATA and power. No instructions for installing into normal 3.5 bay.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. You can mount the SSD in you computer using any standard 2.5inch to 3.5inch mounting brackets. Typically, the brackets can be found from any computer supply shop or online and are usually inexpensive. After connecting the SSD to the brackets, you should be able to mount it in the 3.5inch bay the same as any other drive. For any further assistance, Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo died in five months

Pros: Fast, worked great for the first five months.

Cons: Running my OS and two of these drives died, within five months. Product model is already discontinued, not 100% confident about replacement. I was glad I was imaging the OS nightly... .

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Other reviews say its slower than other ssds, well I don't have any experience with other ssds but I will say compared my old sata 1 hdd it's crazy fast I can't even begin to compare them. And I guess there are some reviews based on old firmware, but it looks like I missed that set of issues. And seems pretty affordable for a 120 gig ssd

Cons: None yet

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate From Last Review

Pros: Fast, Cheap, worked fine out of the box.

Cons: Died on me about 4 days after making my positive review on this SSD. Worked fine while it lasted, but did not last near as long as it should have.

Other Thoughts: As mentioned above, it worked great while it worked.. Did not last near as long as I would have hoped however.. Will be purchasing a new SSD from another company and hoping I can send this one back to get a replacement as a backup.

5 out of 5 eggsNice and fast, and fits my laptop

Pros: It's thinness makes it compatible with my laptop which requires a 7mm drive. I can get read speeds of 350MB/s, which surprised me because I thought my laptop could only do SATA II.

Includes a plastic thingy that you stick on the side in order for it to sit properly in cases/laptops designed for standard 2.5" drives, which I used to make my old laptop's HDD sit properly in a USB enclosure

Cons: After installing Windows 7 to it I was having an issue where I'd get a WEI of 5.9. running winsat disk in an elevated command was showing I was getting very bad latencys on Long IOs. However, this seemed to have resolved itself once I finished installing all of the Windows updates.

Other Thoughts: There are two things that caused this drive to get such a low score in previous reviews, and both are things you shouldn't experience.

1. Acronis cannot initialize this drive. This seems to be a bug in Acronis and may have been resolved now. Windows can initialize the drive perfectly fine.

2. poor write speeds. This was a problem due to bad firmware that plagued this drive and the 64B version, but that has been resolved. My drive came with the new firmware, and I assume all drives have been updated. However, there may be a rare chance you will get a driv that wasn't reflashed. In which case, Kingsinton has a relatively easy to follow procedure on their website.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for the money

Pros: Decent speed, inexpensive, reliable, easy to install and setup.

Cons: As others have mentioned, there is no mounting bracket. Depending on the case you have, this might or might not be an issue.

Slower than other SSDs, but it is also cheaper, so you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Used this HDD for about 10+ months now and have not had a single issue with it. setup just fine, and hasn't crashed on me yet.

Didn't notice when I bought it that the read write speeds were not as high as other SSDs, but that was my own fault. It is still very fast, as a normal boot time is about 5-10 seconds.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Price Good Performance

Pros: Was easy to install.
Cheap for the capacity.
Speeds are great compared to my 7200.

Cons: Maybe no mounting bracket but I didn't expect one.

Other Thoughts: This is my first SSD.

Put this into my computer and did a fresh Win7 Pro 64 install. Running fantastic, no issues recognizing the drive, and it is blazing fast. Shuts down in less than a few seconds. Start time is probably about 10 seconds, maybe less.

As long as it doesn't die on me any time soon I'm extremely happy with it.
