I wasn't disappointed with the performance but then I got a good deal for 256gb. I put it in a machine that only has sata 2; so I'm happy. It works much better than it did. At some point it freezes the whole system. That's not the way it should work!! After a couple of reinstalling I gave up.. Very sad to pay that price and get a 1 day product... I could live with the read rate considering what's advertised (and the discounted price I got it at), but the write rate is abhorrent. The results are as follows: Avg Read: 268 Mb/s Avg Write: 77.35 Mb/s Seek Time 0.2ms ADVERTISED: Read: 300 Mb/s Write: 230 Mb/s Other Thoughts: I'd recommend looking at a different SSD. I'm having problems with this drive freezing . I installed Windows 7 and everything seemed to work fine. Every now and then it will cause my system to lock up and a couple of times Windows failed to start. I checked Kingstons website for firmware updates and they dont address a freezing issue. Pleasantly surprised with boot speed increase. Cons: Not latest hardware, but you knew that already. Other Thoughts: I got this SSD as a moderate upgrade to my 7200 RPM HDD. Since I managed to get it during a sale, I am quite satisfied with it so far. Though I am not sure how much my boot speed increase is due to a fresh install of Windows, there is a definite difference from my previous installation (about a minute vs. 3+ minutes previously). Pros: Installing this drive reduced my boot time from about 3 minutes to about 20 seconds on my 4 year old Gateway laptop. I have 4 GB RAM and am upgrading to 8 so I expect to get that down to around 10. Windows Update is an instantaneous blip across the screen now where it was a couple minutes of wait time before. Rated 5.9 on Windows rating, which put it on par with SATA III hard drives, but the system FEELS much faster. Win 7 boots in seconds. Great customer service from Kingston even if they forget that in America we do use Fahrenheit not Celsius :-p Cons: Still too hot for an SSD, imho . Other Thoughts: AFter posting here and requesting RMA from Kingston and Newegg I have to say that Kingston has been very very responsive and accommodating. I still feel high temps of 127 under load after I really tested is still way way too high but I have decided to switch drive to desk from lappy because the drive runs SSD fast enough for me.
