5 out of 5 eggsStill works after 5 years

Pros: Hardware write protection switch.
Cap fits so well.
Still works well after 5 years.
Well made.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I mostly use Kanguru USB drives with write protection switches, but this PQI drive is still working fine after 5 years of moderate use (at least once a week, often more).

It appears to be slightly slower for WRITES than it used to be when new, although that's a bit subjective. Hard to be sure after 5 years.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great for 4 months now

Pros: Write protection switch.
Includes bracelet sized lanyard.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: PQI did a great job.

I bought this for the write protection switch. You'll want to keep a paperclip or pen handy to use the switch.

I also own a second near-identical model (4 GB variety) that has served me well for over 6 months now.

Both have held up very well in moderate to heavy usage. I push the write switch on and off about twice a week, and use the flash drive on different client computers ~10+ times each week.

Read and write speed is fine.

LED is helpful. Plastic enclosure looks pretty good.

PQI software 'UR Smart' isn't worth getting excited about. After trying it once I decided it's not useful for me.

I have not tried ReadyBoost using this flash drive.

The small, optional lanyard is nice, and goes through the main body rather than the cap. You may be smiling, but there are other popular manufacturers that still can't seem to figure this out.

5 out of 5 eggsRMA Results

Pros: RMA replacement received and put to the test for a few days. I've written about 150GB with no problems. Write speed is as advertised, near 9MB/sec.

Cons: None this time around. I suppose I'd prefer a blue LED, but that's not worth docking an egg over. So long as it keeps on working, this is a five egg item.

Other Thoughts: Those complaining about missing 500MB need to understand that 1GB is only 1,000,000,000 bytes in marketing. In reality, 1GB is 1,073,741,824 bytes. Look at the total space on the drive in BYTES as you'll see it actually exceeds the 8,000,000,000 bytes advertised. Now convert those bytes into real GB:

8,070,836,224 bytes / 1,073,741,824 bytes = 7.52GB

This is the way it is and has always been....you can repeat this exercise with any other drive in your computer. In other words, PQI didn't rip you off.

1 out of 5 eggsThe flash drive died...

Pros: Very good recording and reading speeds. The Write-protect feature is great advantage of this flash drive. Good amount of space. Did not have any compatibility issues.

Cons: The flash drive died within 2 months. Started with gradual data loss- then file system errors and then... Unable to format the drive and read or write anything to it...

Other Thoughts: Hope it's just a bad luck... Will send this drive for replacement to PQI. Otherwise it would be a great model.

1 out of 5 eggsFAILURE

Pros: Compact metal case, write protect switch, ReadyBoost OK, inexpensive.

Cons: Failed after only a few days. It slowly went from bad to worse, so I spent several hours troubleshooting random errors before determining the flash drive was bad.

Write protect switch requires a paper clip or similar object to operate.

Other Thoughts: Would be a 5 star product if it worked. I'll post a new review after the replacement goes through a stress test.

If a write protect feature isn't important to you, consider the Patriot Razzo 8GB (also here on Newegg.com). The specs and price look identical but the Patriot has a solid positive review history.

Pros: Work's good, Work's fast, And low cost.

Cons: 8gigs is 8gigs not 7.5gigs, Yes Im still searching for the missing 500mb of memory. If found i'll give you two more egg's.

Other Thoughts: Please get it right, if i knew it was only 7.5gigs I would of found and bought a different card!
