5 out of 5 eggsgreat memory

Pros: At 7-7-7-24 latency it is fast, this memory even under heavy load has been completly stable.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: having never used Geil products before I am very pleased with its performance I have used Kingston, Patriot, Ocz and Corsair memory in the past and generaly speaking this seams to overclock, and withstand heat with better stability I look forward to using more GeIl memory in the future and hope it is all as stable

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than what I was replacing

Pros: Auto detected correctly by my bios (ASUS M4785TD-M Evo). Works great. Had never tried Geil before, but the OCZ Platnum 1333 4gig set was bad, so while those are being replaced I ordered these. Should have gotten these in WEI memory rating went to 7.4 right after I plugged them in. I'm sure I could OC them to 1600 with no problem. Settings were correctly autodetected and set.

Cons: None, really. Honest.

Other Thoughts: Ram has been the source of all of my problems. The low voltage OCZ Platnums I first got to go with my build were a last minute decision because they were in a combo deal with the AMD 550 BE processor. Don't get some random piece of equipment at the last minute. Check out compatabilities and reviews fully.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Buy

Pros: Cheap
1333 OC'd to 1500 no problems

Installed and was auto-set correctly in the BIOS. WOW!

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte GA H55M S2H MOBO / Intel core i3.
This RAM
WIN7 Pro 64bit

First boot and everything worked perfectly. Ran at stated speed (1333).

Then, overclocked using Gigabyte Smart6 OC program set to TURBO, the middle setting. Computer did not like it on the second boot; but it took on the third try. Now running at 1500 speed.

Recommended!!

4 out of 5 eggsTurns out I was wrong

Pros: This is an update to a previous review I posted a few days ago which I'll explain below.

Plug them in and they work. Well that's the intention anyway.

Cons: One of the four sticks turned out to be bad. I had posted an earlier review that stated I only needed to fix the voltage at 1.5V in order to stabilize them. What I actually had was a stick that had a problem which took a few days to really manifest itself. Luckily, I can return one kit of two and still have a functional computer while I wait for the replacements.

Other Thoughts: After a few system lockups, I ran memtest86 and noticed a few errors. I entered the bios and was able to set the ram voltage to 1.5V instead of "Auto". That stabilized everything for a little while. Lockups appeared again and memtest86 showed more errors.

It took quite a few arrangements of the sticks and slots to find the failed stick. Sometimes memtest86 would test the bad stick for hours with no issue. Only when I moved it to a new slot would the errors reappear. Doing the same to the other three produced no errors.

Newegg's RMA procedure is still the easiest implementation that I know to exist. It's one of the top reasons I keep shopping with them. I expect a couple of weeks from now I should have a new kit.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsNeeds voltage

Pros: Good value for the price. GeIL has been flawless in my laptop so I had no reservation against buying these.

Cons: Just one small issue.

Originally I thought I had a bad stick due to Memtest errors but that was due to a lack of voltage. There were never any errors when using only two sticks. As soon as all four were being used, Memtest Test #5 would produce errors. Using the BIOS to bump the voltage from Auto to 1.5V and setting the frequency from Auto to 1333MHz solved those errors.

Other Thoughts: Used two of these kits for an Asus M4A77TD as they were one of the models listed in the board's compatibility list. Other than having to set the correct voltage, these have worked out real well. I'm not planning to overclock as the system needs to remain stable, so I can't comment on those possibilities.

1 out of 5 eggsBSOD!

Pros: Cheap at the time, but other faster options from more traditional brands at the same or even lower price are already available as of this writing.

Cons: BSOD ("Memory Management") failure on W7-x64 after a couple of weeks (MSI G45 AM3, Athlon x4 85W 2.8Ghz) - never OC'ed. Swapped them with A-DATA: rig now purrs along flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: Newegg still rocks! I can't blame them for this: they RMA'ed them without hassle or question.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Sir/Madam,

If you have any questions to put the module in one system, please write us tech@geil.com.tw or RMA if you would like to.
Thank you so much.

Regards,

GeIL Technical and Support Team

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value Ram

Pros: Solid value RAM. Works perfectly on a Win 7 64-bit OS. Doesn't OC that well, but then it isn't advertised to do so.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsWatch Out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Works great, haven't had a problem with it yet. just vOCed it to 1.6 and worked well.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: For all of you that get this and works with your motherboards right away, CAUTION i would check out the voltage. it worked fine on mine right away and i was lucky i decided to make the change to the voltage anyway. when i got in the BIOS i found that the motherboard had set the voltage to 1.8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the dedicated memory controllers that are in the Core i5 and Core i7 processors WILL fry if the voltage is higher than 1.65. Don't get me wrong, this is great memory. just remember to change the voltage, or at least to check it NO MATTER WHAT.
