Do your research
- Pros: Corsair is the saint of Ram, their help support is pretty good, for the less then knowledgeable running tests such as Memtest (which they recommend for testing faulty RAM) are a bit more than manageable. However, it is great ram, I am actually underclocking it (explained later) and the sticks are happy as clams.
- Cons: Non
- Other Thoughts: I bought the components for a new machine, a bit under a month later I installed Crysis. For 3 days everything was peachy keen until my system crashed and the G.P. diagnostics card on my motherboard read "Memory Test." I spent a few days figuring out what I was doing wrong or what went wrong and I think I found it. I am using a 3.2 Ghz Intel core i7 965 Extreme edition. That supports RAM at speeds of 800 or 1066 Mhz. The RAM also calls for 1.6 volts of electrical power. After some fuss I found that in my BIOS I had the DRAM bus voltage set to [Auto] which (On my BIOS) means 1.5 volts and the DRAM clock speed was [Auto] which (again on my BIOS) means whatever the RAM wants to operate at. So the end of the story is watch out for what speed your processor wants to run your RAM at and also, make sure you voltage is correct. Kind of a stupid mistake which makes me look like a total idiot but just saying, it happens, so watch out for it.
Poor quality control, poor warranty policy
- Pros: Good price for a 12GB DDR3 kit
- Cons: 6 of these went into a new heavy use pc build and the first errors surfaced in about a week, turned out one dimm was bad. Contacted Corsair for RMA, got it and sent them the defective DIMM back... then they contacted me back and asked for the *whole* kit of 6 dimms back! Since this was the only set of DDR3 I had I can't pull all of it and take the new machine down just to replace 1 bad dimm and they would not budge on this matter after a half dozen communications back and forth. I finally gave up and asked them to send the bad dimm back... which they never did. Not that a dead dimm is worth anything to me, but its the principle.

XMS3 vs. Dominator
- Pros: High Performance, high Reliability!
- Cons: Price is a little steep.
- Other Thoughts: I was hesitant because I am usually purchasing Corsair Dominator RAM. I opted for the XMS3 (purchased at Newegg, like most of my hardware) because of my budget.
The RAM is used on a high-end rig. Asus Revolution & i7-950 and RAID'ed Corsair SSD's as system drives. It is one of my workstations designated for demanding HD-NLE editing. Having this said, I have not noticed any disadvantage with the XMS3 vs. Dominators. (By the way...I just experienced my FIRST Corsair memory failure in YEARS... it was DDR2 Dominator RAM from another rig... what ya know! - I have received from Corsair replacement RAM within 2 weeks.)
Eggcelent
- Pros: Stable Memory, No need to overclock runs fine as is, price is affordable for 12GB kit. Owner of this kit for 8months and counting. Going to buy another set for my other computer I'm building. Its Corsair what else can you say.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: My computer info (Motherboard//Graphic Card//Processor : ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard /// SAPPHIRE 100281SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card w/ATI Eyefinity /// Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
Couldn't ask for more
- Pros: 12GB matched set of 1600MHz RAM at a very reasonable price. XMP profiles made it plug-n-play. Running at stated specs (1.6V which is great). Passed all tests (LinX, Memtest86+, heavy gaming..). Newegg pricing, service and delivery to top it off.
- Cons: Nada
- Other Thoughts: Replaced very problematic gold RAM from a competitor with this kit and won't look back. Though 12GB is likely more than I'll need for a while, it's one less upgrade to buy in the future. I highly recommend this kit if you're looking for a 12GB kit.
