4 out of 5 eggsAging RAM is Expensive

Pros: - Works as expected

Cons: - This set of 2 x 1GB sticks of RAM is pretty expensive. This isn't Newegg's problem, but the market.

Other Thoughts: My mother has an aging Lenovo ThinkCentre and wanted to step into the world of Windows 7 (from XP). I added this kit along with the 1GB stick she already had installed and Windows 7 runs great for her needs. This RAM is pretty expensive for the size of the sticks though, so I'm deducting an egg.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent. Works. 1 stick died after four years

Pros: Memory, it works, what can you say? It's great when you don't have to worry about something, you buy the part, plug it in and forget about it.

Cons: One stick of a set died after four years. Not bad, though I like a machine to last six years or so when I build em. Was easy to figure out. That's always nice. No intermittent crud.

Other Thoughts: Stuff dies. Though for a perfect score I require the machine to die by obsolescence. This lasted four years in a machine I built for a friend. Pretty cool.

1 out of 5 eggsCorsair, not so good any more?

Pros: Not sure I have any this time...

Cons: Bought this a 2nd set on 10/11/2012 and recently, around Feb. 20th or so they died. Fairly easy to tell as they computer would immediately shut down during the boot up process and never complete.

Other Thoughts: I have used Corsairs higher-end series successfully in previous PC builds, this may be just a characteristic of their Value Select line of products and not an indicator of overall bad products.

Other Thoughts: Using with I7-3770S processor on a Shuttle SZ77R5 case/motherboard and Mushkin 240GB MSata SSD. Can't tell if it is running at 1600 or 1333 though.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat upgrade for an old desktop

Pros: Works as expected.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I bought this a couple of years ago for an old Athlon 64, Asus Mobo setup. It brought new life to a dying desktop.

1 out of 5 eggsIncompatibility Issues

Pros: Price

Cons: This memory appears incompatibile with a Dell Dimension 3000. It causes periodic system reboots, sometimes in the middle of tasks. Not recommended for use in the Dell Dimension 3000.

Other Thoughts: May be good for a different make/model of computer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear JDM,

You are correct, this memory kit isn't compatible with the Dell Dimension 3000. Please use the Memory Finder function on the Corsair website to determine which memory kit works with your system.

Thank you,
Corsair Customer Support

5 out of 5 eggsThe Good Stuff

Pros: I have run it for four years - very reliable and stable.

Cons: Sorry no bling factor.

Other Thoughts: I finally bought a second pair to fill out my old mule (Intel 865 board) with four slots. It is impressive that his product has stood the test of time and is still available.
