1 out of 5 eggsHad to RMA

Pros: Cheap

Cons: DOA. Memory simply would not work.

Other Thoughts: Updated the BIOS on an older A8N-VM CSM motherboard and still would not detect. The system currently has Kingston memory with identical specifications and works fine. I thought I would try muskhin as they are cheap and I have had luck with them in the past, but this time my luck ran out. Going to go with Kingston, Crucial, or Corsair.

5 out of 5 eggsNew life for an older PC

Pros: Inexpensive
Gets the job done

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This doubled the memory in an older PC that was being used as a media server. The memory was added to two Crucial 1GB sticks and they worked just fine. I would recommend this memory for anyone needing to upgrade and older machine.

5 out of 5 eggsBought two pairs

Pros: Cheap reliable memory, hope it holds up in time but for the price ill just replace again!

Cons: none!

Other Thoughts: Bought 2 dual channel sets for my old XPS dell system and made it run super smooth! I also added a SSD to the old XP Prod system! the system is running like I have never seen before in the past 10 years! FYI out of 4 gigs installed on system XP uses .75gigs and your are only left with 3.25 to play with!

4 out of 5 eggsHP Media Center

Pros: This memory works on a HP Media Center desktop with a P4SD-LA motherboard.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded a clients PC from 512 MB of ram (PC3200 Hynix) on his HP Media Center PC to 2 GB of ram and things are running a lot smoother then they were before.

Other issues on his PC are unrelated to memory...i.e. Still running Windows XP with integrated graphics, and his HDD was failing, those issues were resolved and everything is working nicely now.

5 out of 5 eggsplug -n- play, works as-advertised

Pros: Received and plugged into my creaky old HP Pavilion a775c, RAM working at rated specifications within 10 minutes.

The system came with 2x 256 MB kit of Samsung PC3200 SDRAM back in 2005, running at 2.5 volts w/ timings 3-3-3-8-0 @200 MHz.

New Mushkin memory was purchased specifically to match those timings so that I could have a total of 2.5 GB RAM on this system.

Exactly as rated by Mushkin:
• @133.3 MHz: 2-2-2-6-0 / 2.5 v
• @166.7 MHz: 2-3-3-7-0 / 2.5 v
• @200.0 MHz: 3-3-3-8-0 / 2.5 v

LOL: manufacture date for Mushkin chips is: 2007, Week 16 (info embedded on-chip & can be read using SIW - System Information for Windows free utility; a great little, essential software you should google up & learn to use, if you don't know about it already).

This Mushkin kit has been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for quite a while ... but. It's new, so shouldn't be an issue. Chips and packaging in immaculate condition.

Samsung kit, BTW: 2004, Week 49 and going strong. Outstand

Cons: None. Burned in with memory test overnight, all four chips: 2x 1 GB Mushkin kit and 2x 256 MB Samsung kit for total 2560 MB SDRAM ... it all passed with flying colors at full rated specifications.

OTHER THOUGHTS dedicated to why I needed to make this purchase. And why I will be looking to Mushkin by preference in the future (there is also a great SKILL'd brand name I swear by, too).

In a way, what sucks is that I am so happy that I would give this memory a top rating ... just because it did exactly what it was advertised to perform at. Talk about living in an age of lowered expectations. :-\

It did what it was supposed to, and didn't suck as much as its competition. Bitter much? Naw ... I'm too cynical these days to be bitter anymore. ;-)

Other Thoughts: Originally bought C0rsair kit, Item=N82E16820145579 @newegg. Check detailed review there (by 3Xp4t, 01 Feb 2012) to see what FAIL that was.

Basically, C0rsair FAILed to meet it's advertised spec, causing sys FAIL while trying to get it to work with the Samsung RAM; each kit ran at its own timings and Blue Screens started soon thereafter.

Mushkin kit plays beautifully w/ Samsung kit at fastest timings. Running 32-bit WinXP install, it's near the max memory the operating system can use, & plenty much for the mundane gen. tasks this system is used for: documents & slideshows in Open Office, PDF creation/editing, web page development and maintenance, lite graphics/photo editing in GIMP & Photoshop, burn DVD's, watch some video.mkv files, Age of Empires II, Chessmaster 11 & Fritz Chess 12 are max stress. Eats it all up while running dual monitors.

Will convert to linux soon & have nearly maxed all its capabilities. Should run for ~5 more years as fileserver & lite web/email browser

1 out of 5 eggsMushkin has finally let me down.

Pros: Cheap, decent CAS timings, Mushkin reputation.

Cons: DOA. Stride6 memory tests fail on first pass every time. Reseated, swapped slots, still failing.

Other Thoughts: I've used Mushkin a lot in the past with very reliable, positive results. This has tarnished their reputation in my mind.

You may buy this pair and have zero issues. I was unlucky enough to get a bad stick, so don't be surprised if you have to return them.

5 out of 5 eggsGood RAM

Pros: It works!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Good basic DDR1 for revitalizing an older PC. Does what it's supposed to, reasonably priced for old stuff.

I used this in an old spare parts build for a friend (Athlon 64 3700+ (S939), Foxconn/Winfast NF4K8MC motherboard, 500w Fortron Blue Storm PSU, GeForce 7950 GT) and it works perfectly at advertised speeds/timings/voltages. I haven't tried tightening timings or overclocking the memory, and I probably won't as this memory isn't really intended for that anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsDont's get these, non-sealed type of factory packaging

Pros: Good price

Cons: Factory packaging is non-sealed type.

Other Thoughts: Mushkin factory packaging is type of plastic packaging that is not "sealed" - it simply has the dimples to re-close, and no factory tape or seal or anything.

There is no way to tell if someone has already been touching the modules, simply because the type of factory packaging.
