Pros: Awesome Memory, Great price

Cons: Uses quite a bit of power...using iStatMenus to monitor the power draw of the memory banks, adding 8GB of RAM did not-so-nice things to my power usage, though this wasn't exactly unexpected...

Other Thoughts: Went from 4GB of RAM in a Mac Pro to 12GB. HUGE difference. Most of the time I was paging out 4-8GB of stuff. Now that's practically 0. I run multiple VMs concurrently, and being able to give Windows 7 and Server 2008 each a 2GB chunk for testing is simply awesome. I have had dealings with Mushkin in the past with defective memory and they have went above and beyond solving the problem, made a life-long customer out of me.

Pros: Great memory at a fantastic price. I had 4 gig of ram added this 4 and can tell a big difference. Just ordered another set today and had them overnighted so they will be here for the new year. Adding more ram really helped my Lightroom to Photoshop transfers. Other programs seem to open instantly rather then lagging for a second or so.

Cons: None at all.

Pros: Worked great right out of the box. Priced right for those of us who can't afford the "Apple" brand.

Cons: None thus far.

Other Thoughts: I've had a set of these (2x2gb) for several months now which put me at 6gb total. I've just ordered another set (which has yet to arrive) and asked Mrs. Cluas for another this Christmas. That will put me at 14gb (that's before I remove the 2gb that came with the Mac Pro and replace it with a final 4gb set). These Mac Pros rock! I can't wait to get them all installed to see the performance difference.

Anyhow, great RAM!

Pros: Good Price, Packaged well by both Mushkin and as always Newegg. Runs well within Apple's thermal specifications.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Great upgrade path for Mac Pro owners. If you have a different system that uses FB-DIMM's these are not necessarily your best option. e.g. Intel Skulltrail D5400 would not work with these because of the heat-syncs being too large. You would have the same issue with an Apple Xserve. Mushkin makes another 4GB kit for the Apple Xserve that would be good for such systems.

Pros: These memory modules worked great.

Cons: First try was DOA... see my post "DOA Also" on 3/28.

Other Thoughts: After two weeks of shipping to/from Newegg and $8 shipping cost, I had success when I installed the memory. Apparently I had one of the 15 modules that had the wrong timing program. I would have sent back to mfg. had I known, but I received their comments after I had already shipped the product back to Newegg. Cudos for trying, but too late for me.

I purchased this Mushkin set (total of 8GB) because I saw Fugger at the xtremesystems 4-ums was using it in the D5400XS (Skulltrail) motherboard he was reviewing (and I hoped to duplicate his oc of 4.4GHz). I considered other mems, but to see his work but a big :-D on my face.

Cons: None! Btw, If this is for “Skulltrail” (Intel D5400XS) make sure you order the p/n: 976598A (the p/n: 976596A has a different heatsink, I think is used in Mac Pro Riser Card). The 98A is "Perfect Match" also btw.

Other Thoughts: Problems happen... a key factor in determining a company's worth (to me) is how these problems are dealt with. I was amazed to see each "Manufacturer Response" below. A Rep posting his number on a website? That was impressive.

I emailed Cris (at Mushkin) over the weekend stating it seemed I had 2 of the bad sets... by 9:45am Monday, Cris emailed stating a new set was being overnight’d to me. I was so surprised... and thankful! I should have ordered p/n 976598A because the heatsink type is the one I actually needed for my D5400XS (was my mistake) yet was no problem exchanging! I received a Fedex Tracking No. last night. Before 10:30 am this morning Fedex arrived. Plugged them in and boom baby! Works perfect. Cris even made a follow-up call this morning to be sure I had received the new modules and all was "well". :-)

This expedited care was absolutely first rate. Thanks Cris and Mushkin!

Other Thoughts: Got my RMA last week. This time around, it's been sweet. Mac Pro recognized the modules instantly, no fussing around. Happily running multiple virtual machines without lag.

Pros: Cheaper than Apple memory.

Cons: Didn't work! Brand new Mac Pro couldn't even see the memory. I followed Apple's directions to the T, and also every other configuration I could think of. This memory was not detected a single time. Just got my RMA number and will be sending it back today.

Other Thoughts: I'm a glutton for punishment, and am willing to give it another try, so I'm requesting a replacement instead of refund. Maybe I'll get lucky! I'll post the results of try #2 when I get it.

Pros: The modules are cheaper than buying directly from Apple at $999 [MB193G/A]. Mushkin has a good reputation in the memory market.

Cons: I got a lemon. Came DOA. Sent out for RMA replacement.

Other Thoughts: I'll write another review when the next modules come. I gave it a very poor rating because defective merchandise was sold. It deserves another review with a different trial to balance out the rating, if its appropriate.
