3 out of 5 eggsWon't last (<4yrs) as long as OEM

Pros: Worked out of the box. Bought in Jan 2010. Lasted almost four years.

Cons: Only lasted four years. The OEM 2GBX2 from Mac has been on the go since 2008. The Mushkin died just short of two years in service. This is a home computer that is put to sleep every night.

Other Thoughts: Rebate from Mushkin took four months to arrive.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: nicely packaged, high quality, nice heatsink, installed with no problems.

Cons: limited supply, very expensive for only 8gigs :/ -- i guess that comes with the territory in mac land

Other Thoughts: just put these in my mac pro 3,1 today. now running 18gb -- nice!!
TAKE NOTE: follow apple's directions properly when installing. in my case, 6 dimms, put 2 pairs on the top card and 1 on the bottom or it will not work! in the case of 4 dimms, put 1 pair on the top and 1 on the bottom

5 out of 5 eggsAdding memory

Pros: See

Cons: Below

Other Thoughts: I do not own this specific memory module, but I'm considering buying a pair. I just wanted to mention as a response to some of the previous posters that there is a very specific order that the Mac Pro 2008 needs its memory slots filled or it won't recognize the FB-DIMMs properly. Another note, FB-DIMMs are and have always been expensive and seem to have become a dead-end technology. They were going to be the future of memory for workstations and servers but were rejected in the marketplace.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Price

Pros: For the price you can't go wrong, I also know Mushkin is a reliable company from what I've experienced as well as what others I know have experienced. Now running at 10 GB's
(with stock 2GB modules)

Cons: None so far but I just got it and installed today, oh wait there is one thing, I had to reseat them into another riser (3&4/A&B) since it didn't recognize them on the first install, but I believe this was because I hadn't pushed down enough to seat them correctly.

Other Thoughts: I ordered and got it delivered the next day and paid nothing extra. I also think that's because I'n in NYC and they were shipped from NJ Lol regardless I'm very satisfied, New Egg has never let me down, even with returned items... EVER! :)

5 out of 5 eggsMixed feelings

Pros: When it works, it's awesome. If you are a lucky one to receive a new one, and it isn't defective, then you are good to go. I have had mine installed and stressed for over a year. I run BOINC with Rossetta @ Home. The computer is online 24/7 and since it must be running all the time, I contribute my idle cycles to research. When "idle" after about 5 minutes, it will run BOINC @ 100% on all 8 cores (2 sockets x 4 cores each - 2.8GHz Mac Pro). I have a total of 12GB RAM (4 x 1GB that came with the system, and 2 x 4GB Mushkin from this kit). I have set my BOINC preferences to use 100% of RAM when "idle". I have yet to have a complaint about it. The RAM performs like a champ. At least once a month, I check the memory for errors, just in case. I purchased the memory 12/30/2009, but didn't install it until late January, more on this later. So to recap, the modules are awesome. The quality is there, and although stressed 24/7 those heatsinks help a lot to dissipate the heat.

Cons: Now onto the cons ... I purchased the memory 12/30/2009 as a x-mas gift to myself. When I received them, right off the bat, I saw that the gold pins were already scratched. Obviously due to use or testing. I'm a tech, so I didn't really care. Furthermore, I understood it as "Ok, they tested them before they were shipped ... Awesome!!!". I went home, opened the clear package and a nice scent of burned silicon engulfed my nostrils. "WOOOOOAHHH!!!" I yelled out, along with another few choice words. But, I continued to disregard it, as I work at a computer manufacturer and smell silicon all day, and it doesn't necessarily mean that it is defective. I thought that perhaps they tested them overnight, and packed them while hot, keeping in the fresh silicon fumes. Installed the memory, and to my dismay, they were not recognized. I had to notify Newegg, and I was told that they were not "Open Box", rather brand new... Regardless, they didn't work, so they sent me a new set of 2.

Other Thoughts: I have purchased many things from Newegg and other retail websites that will go unmentioned. I must admit that there are people out there that don't know how to handle electronics and Newegg is still a business that must watch out for mishandling. Even if the part was returned originally from the first purchaser as "not needed/wanted", they should still be tested prior to shipping in my opinion if they were opened. Like I stated, I'm a tech, and just because something is opened, I personally don't care, as long as it does what it needs to do. Although I know others need that "brand new" item, or be announced as "open box". I understand both perspectives. But my point is, don't give a customer a hard time if they are clearly knowledgeable. Like I said ... The product is OUTSTANDING, and so is Newegg's return/exchange policy. However, customer support (at least a year ago) needs to be a little more delicate. By the way, I had to pay for shipping the part back. Left a sour taste.

3 out of 5 eggsDied within a year (got them replaced)

Pros: It works when it does.

Cons: It didn't last a year. I got them replaced, but I had to live without them for a few weeks and also costed me shipping.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat quality memory

Pros: Great quality and price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Price has come down considerably compared to a year ago, could be because Apple does not use this type of memory on their MacPro's anymore. Regardless a great opportunity to upgrade your system with more memory, you can never have enough!
