5 out of 5 eggs13 Inch Late 2009 Macbook

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Memory For Apple Model 976643A

Pros: Installed the RAM and the computer is good to go. There is a significant difference in performance. The factory Macbook came with 2x1GB and this upgrade doubled the RAM.

Cons: I'm concerned that this RAM hardware isn't going to be manufactured anymore. At the Apple store, I was told that they were soon going to stop supporting late 2000 Macbooks (2008, 09, etc.). So, get this RAM while you can if you're still using a late 2000's model Macbook!

Other Thoughts: RE Installation: I followed the instructions on Apple's website and it was just that easy. At first I thought I hadn't "popped" in the first chip in correctly, but it set and snapped in correctly. The second chip was even easier to pop and set in. Only thing to be concerned about it is the static electricity you might zap your comp and RAM. Also, I used the smallest Phillips screwdriver head I had and didn't use a magnetic electronic-sized Phillips head; it worked just fine.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing Mushkin.
We appreciate your feedback and support.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Memory For Apple Model 976643A

Pros: Cheap memory for its quality. It did exactly what it was supposed to do, work. Seems good enough build quality, and does not cause any spastic behavior with the computer. My macbook seems to be running a bit faster as well.

Cons: None that I can find.

Other Thoughts: This replaced 2x1gig sticks of ram, one of which had gone bad in my 2008 macbook. I figured going with a little more memory since I was buying some anyways. So far its smooth sailing.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst time with Mushkin, bent module?

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Memory For Apple Model 976643A

Pros: Works, none of the sticks are dead, that's about all I need from them...

Cons: Bought this set to upgrade my fiance's '08 Mac Book Pro. Opened the packaging to discover that one of the modules came "bent". Despite the slight curve, the chip still works... but I'm keeping an eye on her Mac to make sure the stick doesn't die off... this was a first for me and constitutes as a con in my opinion, hence the dropped rating.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Compatible

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Memory For Apple Model 976643A

Pros: Shipping was fast, they were in good condition.

Cons: Were not compatible with 2008 Macbook (black). It said it was compatible with Macbook but did not say which ones.

Other Thoughts: I really wish that some products on Newegg had more compatibility details. I'm not sure if this is Neweggs fault or the manufactures. Some products are more specific so I would guess it's just the manufacture not telling Newegg and it's customers enough.

1 out of 5 eggsShouldn't have trusted an unknown company

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Memory For Apple Model 976643A

Pros: Fit in the computer, cheapest available on the Newegg site.

Cons: DOA - computer wouldn't even start up the BIOS, just beeped repeatedly at me, eventually got it to shut down by holding power button. Atempted to reinstall the memory multiple times; huge pain, lots of screws to take out and put in. Should've trusted other reviews of this product, as multiple people said it was iffy product.

"Tech support" was literally a joke - got the number from the Mushkin website, as it was nowhere on the actual product - and seriously GOT A VOICEMAIL. Yes, Muskin "tech support" IS A VOICEMAIL BOX, that apparently no one checks. My message was "just wanted to give you a chance to fix this product before I return it and never buy from you again," left my name and number, and no one called me. Unbelievably frustrating.

Other Thoughts: Mushkin tech support is embarrassing, however, Newegg is excellent - sent them an e-mail request for my RMA to return the product and got it within a day. Got my money back fast too. At least I can trust Newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am terribly sorry about your issue with our support department. We are currently making some changes to prevent this in the future. Please give me a call at 800.569.1868 X: 103 or e-mail me at nick@mushkin.com.

Thanks!
