Samsung’s Solid State Drive radically changes the way you play the game. Upgrade your rig for faster response, greater performance and an overall superior gaming experience. The optimized solid-state technology gives you that extra edge. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or a hardcore gamer, a Samsung SSD will maximize your ability to get more done in less time.

  • newegg Wait less. Do more. Spend more time doing and less time waiting. Samsung Solid State Drives maximize the capabilities of your PC and get more done in less time. This means less time for a computer to boot up or programs to launch. Data is available much quicker and overall response time is significantly improved. The Samsung 470 Series MZ-5PA256/US SSD drives have industry-leading performance of up to 250MB/sec sequential read speed and 220MB/sec sequential write speed which leads to computers booting up in as little as 15 seconds and programs opening up in seconds. Improved multi-tasking allows you to easily edit photos while downloading a movie.
  • newegg Play Longer Stay in the game longer with less energy consumption. A Samsung SSD drive has no moving parts so it uses two-thirds less power than a typical hard drive and you get rid of hard drive spin ups and noise. This also adds an average of 30 minutes to a laptop’s battery or decreases the amount of electricity needed to run a hard drive on a desktop computer. Go green and keep costs down!
  • newegg Distinctive Brushed Metal Design Samsung’s Solid State Drive design has a look to match its performance. The sturdy brushed metal hard shell case protects from shock, dust and corrosion. Since there are no moving parts inside the drive, there is a greater reliability to protect data. And with a light 2.4oz weight, it makes laptops lighter to carry.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Extremely fast boot with Win7 64-bit.

Cons: Absolutely none!

Other Thoughts: All SSDs are fast, but I picked the Samsung 470 because there were NO reports of drive failure in any of the feedbacks. I'm very happy with the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

Pros: Installed this in my 2008 MBP and it was like I'd bought a new machine. There's nothing I can't throw at this laptop now. Very happy.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Works very well with the Toshbia 870-r70 laptop. Not stutter issues or pause issues.

Cons: Kinda expensive, but compared to a 5400rpm 2.5" drive I think it's worth the money.

Other Thoughts: The packaging wasn't pepperoni flavored.

5 out of 5 eggsGet this and stay out of the dead zone!

Pros: *NewEgg just had a double deal on this so got it 64 cents per GB
*Has Samsung controller so you side step the Intel and SandForce issues
*Samsung SSDs are used in all OEM systems like Apple, Dell, and Lenovo
*Tops out around 250MB/s in read for me
*Works great in the Bay 1 of my 2009 8-core Mac Pro with Lion 10.7
* Trim enabler patch for 10.7 Lion enables TRIM support just fine on this drive
*Drive came with newest firmware from Samsung (I went through it all anyway since you cannot tell the firmware version from the outside)
*No stuttering or access issues
*Colorful appearance
*Samsung firmware app has Intel_AHCI drivers so you don't have to change your IDE mode to run the update USB or ISO boot!

Cons: *Cannot tell what version of firmware you have when you buy it, you must run the firmware booter from Samsung Magician App
*It's not really a hugely fast drive when compared to OCZ and intel SATAIII speeds...but it's more then fast enough for anyone's Non-RAID use and what you don't get in speed you get back in reliability.
*Rare but some drives have a mini-USB port on them for a USB mode..not common but would have been nice to have it
*Samsung updater DOS app came up with garbbled Graphics when I ran it on a Dell E6410, then I used the same USB stick booter on a Dell D630 and it worked fine with no graphics corruption. So it's possible that you boot the updater on your system and the GUI system is unreadable...try another system.
*No updater for Apple machines or OSes but this isn't a new thing and not unexpected.

Other Thoughts: *I bought this after owning three OCZ Vertex drives (first gen run that Doesn't fail :-) and a WD SiliconEdge Blue SSD 128GB (bought here at NewEgg) so I've been through SSDs...none have failed but the OCZs are panicky and corrupt stuff sometimes. I bought Samsung because they make all the OEM SSD they may not be the fastest but I feel that by now they should know how to make a reliable SSD! I'm confident they do.
*Put this in a 2009 Mac Pro (tower not laptop). Lion installed from a 16GB USB stick onto this drive (clean install) in 5 minutes
*Buy it! I know you think prices on 120GB drives are so low and now and blah blah but those prices are from manuafactureers with HIGH failure rates. *I've seen it with my business and friends...don't be a cheapskate. This is a GOOD value and from a name that knows how to make reliable SSDs. They make not be the fastest but they are PLENTY fast and they will last you!
* Don't forget to register your Drive with Samsung!!

4 out of 5 eggsWorth it

Pros: Lightning fast, dead silent, lots of room for all those games and programs that I just want to keep around. 128GB just isn't enough space for me.

Cons: Expensive.

Other Thoughts: Because it's not SATAIII, I was concerned about having made a mistake with this drive, but after consulting with a friend we agreed that the compromise (tiny) in potential throughput was not worth returning it for a SATAIII drive. I'm glad I just installed it anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsExceed specifications

Pros: I installed this on a high end dual quad core Xeon workstation as the booting drive with all apps on it but no data. By far the best bang for buck from an every day use performance improvement. All normal task are 30 -50% faster. I first long formated this drive on my PC. Then created an image of my 250GB C: drive and a W7 repair disk. Booted using the repair disk and asked W7 to restore the image to the Samsung SSD and it worked. The resulting partions were not aligned and benchmarks shows about 90% of rated performance. Used Paragon Software's Partition Alignment Tool and got the partions aligned resulting in 5-10% better read write bandwidth.

Cons: Bare drive, you will need bracket to fit into 3.5 inch bay, SATA cable, and software. The included Magician software did not work. It does not even detect that there is a Samsung drive in the machine even after installation is complete and W7 is well up and running using it.

Other Thoughts: Buy it for the sheer performance in uncompressed sequential read write. I think it will be better than the Intel 510 256GB. Software did not come with the drive, had to dowload it and install. It did not work so I could not update drive firmware.

5 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Price per GB compared to the 300gb intel. Excellent performance.

Cons: The only thing that worries me is that the firmware update has a warning that it could erase all data stored on the disc.

Other Thoughts: I wasn't sure if picking the Samsung was the call over the Intel 300gb but the price per gig made me go Samsung. I am not disappointed at all. My Thinkpad Edge 520 runs really really really fast now. It boots up in less than 30 seconds and everything just runs incredibly fast. The only SSD HD's out there that seem to pass the reliability test are Samsung and Intel. To me this was a great second choice over the Intel 300gb.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW.

Pros: Laptop boots in under 10s. File access times, WAY WAY BETTER than a conventional drive. And in Win7 (High Performance profile), file transfer rates up to 200MB/s or so. Easy setup. So far, no issues whatsoever. And compared to some others, reasonable price, along with better reliability. They have DEFINITELY done their work on testing etc - impressive. I'm in shock.

Cons: Won't cook me breakfast.

Other Thoughts: Can't say how amazed I am with the transfer rates/access times, ease of setup, and reliability so far. I was hesitant in buying one of these with black-or-white reviews of SSDs in general, but these guys seem to really know what they're doing.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable!

Pros: Super fast, lots of storage (for me), energy efficient.

Cons: Expensive!

Other Thoughts: This drive came in my HP Envy 14. It's super fast and everything loads almost instantly! This is my first SSD drive. I'm hooked. I see what all the craze is about now!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive!

Pros: Very fast and power effiecient. Replaced 320 MB 7200 drive

Cons: Had to long format the drive before I could image to it (tried 3 times and each time it failed until I long formated the drive)

Other Thoughts: This is my first SSD drive for my own personal system. I've setup/configured several for work use and loved them. Price was good too!
