5 out of 5 eggsMade my late 2007 iMac feel like new

Pros: Works seamlessly with my late 2007 24" iMac and revived what had been a machine that was beginning to creak with age. It consistently clocks read and write speeds in the low-to-mid 200s and makes the Mac feel fast and peppy.

Cons: The screws to fasten the drive to the upgrade kit -- i.e. 3.5" bracket -- are in the center but (at least in my iMac) the eSATA cables weren't long enough to reach drive. I wound up just taping the drive to keep it in place and be reachable for the cables.

Other Thoughts: Since I bought this the 840 and 840 Pro have come out and I hear they blow this one away. Only go with the 830 if it's cheaper and price makes a difference to you. It's fast enough but not the fastest.

5 out of 5 eggsVery, very, very good piece of hardware

Pros: This thing is Gosh! It is one the most powerful pieces of my current PC and is so far flawless is its performance--intel core i7-3930, asus rampage iv extreme, gskill ripjaw z, win 7 64bit.

Cons: the price when I bought it in February 2012 was over 600 dollars. And I was willing to pay for it, ha ha. It have no regrets. The government cannot give you this kind of performance for free. Get a job! It is worth it for both your eternal salvation and for your gaming bliss.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: It's fast. I get more or less the advertised numbers. I've had this running as my boot drive for Win7 for about 8 months now. It has not presented any issues.

Cons: Used Acronis 2012 to clone my original drive.

Other Thoughts: I also have a 512gb M4, a 840 256gb Samsung, and an 240gb Daytona, and to be honest for regular desktop apps like office, lightroom, and web browsers, I can't really notice the difference in speed.

I only have about 90gb used on this drive :p

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung 830 Series SSD

Pros: Had to get a bigger drive than my previous Intel SSDs so I was intrigued by the size along with faster reads and writes. Drive is superb with the shiney box, matte black SSD, mounting bracket, manuals / promotions, and cable.

Been using it a few months now and the drive has performed flawlessly. Not a single performance issue. Cloned my install from my previous drive over and went back to work - all is and has been fine!

I can notice a speed up with files and things overall even compared to my previous Intel 320 series 300GB drive. The Intel was plenty fast but I just see a bit less waiting and a bit more performance out of the Samsung - both are very good drives.

For reading and writing I tested with ATTO and was consistently hitting ~400MB/sec read and ~280MB/sec write with all blocks of data larger than 32KB. Even though this drive is capable of writing much faster, it turns out the Marvell ports on my board (SATA III / 6Gb/sec) limit just how fast this drive can go on my SR-2. If this was hooked to a controller card it could probably go faster but then I could lose booting ability perhaps. Oh well, still plenty fast.

Recently was able to encode 72+GB of video while playing a game all using the same drive and had no performance loss. Even though it uses a lot of the flash to do so, steaming Fraps or other data to this drive (since it's by far the fastest thing in the system now) is nearly effortless and works very well. File burst transfers to for from this drive have pegged the speeds at sometimes over 2GB/sec until the buffers fill. It's ... FAST! With a large (14 GB) file on a drive that's practically full, a copy/paste is still 200+MB/sec. Might see a few seconds faster on boot time / starting programs loading but not insanely faster than previous SSDs.

It seems though that since overal reading speed is much faster than my previous SSDs, it can speed through even a simple virus scan a bit faster than before. Can do a full C:\ scan of the drive (2M+ files) in about 20 minutes.

You get ~485 or so GB usable. I put a slight extra overprovision on it for safety so currently have about 450 GB usable.

The included Samsung Magician is... OK. It'll let you clean up garbage data, secure-erase the drive, benchmark it, do FW updates etc. just like most other toolboxes allow you to do. It's a bit sluggish but gets the job done. Sorry but I do prefer the cleaner and speedier Intel Toolbox more. Not enough of an issue to dock an egg, though.

Cons: Limited by my board! I'm maybe getting ~50MB/sec faster writes than my previous drive but reads are almost off the chart. Very impressed so no real cons. Be sure your board or controller can handle the speed.

Other Thoughts: So far I've owned Intel drives for years and the experience has been flawless. I do hope Samsung drives give me that same robustness. Highly recommended, and on the very short list of drives I'd want to purchase at the half terabyte capacity for this kind of price for performance.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible customer service

Pros: None that I can mention.

Cons: Newegg lost my package before it left their warehouse. Spoke with Hubert who lied to me that newegg will overnight me another hard drive which never happened. It seems the company is so large and make so much money that losing one customer means nothing at all to them. But I'm going to hold my head up and carry my business elsewhere. Newegg has become oldegg to me. This is type treatment unacceptable and unprofessional.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome!

Pros: Fast is an understatement! Once you go SSD you’ll never want to go back. Data transfers and boot times are off the charts. Got 7.9 windows experience rating. I think that’s the highest you can receive. Get it you won’t be sorry.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsgood ol' reliable

Pros: bought it on sale for ~635 USD
comes with a free game
already had the lastest firmware loaded

Cons: you have to download the game, it's ~16gb
the key provided doesn't always work with windowslive which you will need in order to play the game so you'll have to ask customer support from the website you download the game for another key, they gave me a spare key after 2-3 days or waiting.

Other Thoughts: i use this as my OS/Programs drive since i have already 200GB of just games installed. according to the software provided the SSD's OP isn't set so you'll want to shrink it before you install an operating system.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it.

Pros: Speed. 512GB. Firmware update worked under Windows 7 using the Samsung provided software.

Cons: Price. Connector sturdiness doesn't inspire confidence. Be care plugging and unplugging the SATA cable.
