5 out of 5 eggsTwo in RAID 0

Pros: Here is my build

CASE Coolermaster HAF X
PSU Corsair 1200-Watt Power Supply CMPSU-1200AX
MOTHERBOARD ASUS Maximus V EXTREME
CPU Intel Core i7-3770K
CPU COOLER Corsair Hydro Series H100 (CWCH100)
RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) F3-2133C9Q-32GXH
mSATA DRIVE Crucial M4 CT256M4SSD3 256GB (SSD)
SSD SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC512N/AM x2 RAID 0
HDD Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX 2TB x2 RAID 1
OPTICAL DRIVE Pioneer Black BDR-207DBKS X 2
OPTICAL DRIVE ASUS Model DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS
VIDEO ASUS MARS 2 GeForce GTX 580
SOUND Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD
MOUSE Cyborg R.A.T. 7 Gaming Mouse Albino Edition
NETWORK ADAPTER TP-LINK TL-WN722N

As you can see, I have two of these drives in RAID 0 and they have worked flawlessly. The HAF X case had adapters in the hard drive trays for 2.5" drives. I am using these drives for my games and large applications. The Crucial mSATA drive is my boot drive and the WD drives are my data drives. I am going to build another computer in the near future for my wife and I am going to buy another of these for her primary drive.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent performance and value

Pros: Fast, 512GB, zero compatability issues with an Alienware m14x, and now in an MSI GT60

Cons: The cost was a bit higher than others, but I wanted one that I knew would work with my laptop well.

1 out of 5 eggsNot so reliable after all...

Pros: Good speed and capacity, as well as bood bundled maintenance software.

Cons: Failed for no reason after seven months of light use; one day all my data was simply gone, and the drive had to be formatted to again use it.

Other Thoughts: This drive had me convinced it was great and reliable, until suddenly, in an instant and with no warning whatsoever, all 300GB or so of data I had on it simply vanished. My Dell XP 17 (L702X) laptop with Window 7 Ulitmate simply could not read the drive. The only thing I could do was format the drive to attempt to again use it. I don't know about others, but as a professional, any such loss of data for no reason is totally unacceptable. Samsung simply blew it for me. And, unfortunatley, there aren't really any other games in town for reliable SSDs, not even the over-hyped Intel drives.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: Blisteringly fast drive. Everything about this is a Pro. Boots in seconds and the instant you see your desktop everything is already loaded. There is no lag like the platter drives where you have to wait a few seconds between click and a slowly opening program till everything in the background is loaded. It's an amazing piece of hardware. Gone are the slow load times on BF3 and other large games. It's a beast.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Had some trouble with Ghost so I just reinstalled Win7 on it and started from scratch. Flawless, fast and it came preloaded with 100% awesome.

4 out of 5 eggsDrive is fast but installation was not...

Pros: Drive is fast.

Cons: Norton Ghost was a problem. I had Norton Tech support remote access into my computer for over four hours trying to mirror the original drive onto the new Samsung. They couldn't get it. I finally got it to go, not sure what I did different. If not for this, I would give it a 5 star.

Other Thoughts: Samsung needs to put better "Quick Start" directions in the box. I didn't know to install the Samsung software before I put in the new drive, that seemed illogical. However, the Samsung Magician has some menus that walk you through the mirror process and Norton Ghost so maybe if I had known to do that I would not have had so much trouble. Of course, if you are going to reinstall everything, this is a moot point.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, Fast , Fast

Pros: FAST! If that isn't enough then add quiet and runs cool. My Windows Experience Index for the drive went from 5.8 (7200 RPM Caviar) to 7.7.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Based on other Samsung SSD drive reviews, if you are upgrading a Windows 7 PC or Laptop, don't bother using Ghost. Run a Windows System Image to a USB drive, install the new drive, insert a Windows 7 recovery disk and restore.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperdrive!

Pros: What can I say, just the fastest drive I have ever owned. I put it in my average laptop and it boots to desktop in 1/3 the time and completes a full boot in about 1/4 the time of my old 7200 rpm drive that I thought was fast. There is a noticeable speed increase when using also because the read/write times are so fast. I am saving my pennies to buy two more for the RAID 0 in my desktop.

Cons: Still a bit pricey, but I truly think it is worth it.

Other Thoughts: Great shipping and delivery by Newegg, (but of course).

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung 830 SSD

Pros: Compared to enjoying several Intel SSDs over the years, the price and capacity encouraged me to give Samsung a shot. They make electronics, buildings, do construction, and just about everything else so figured, why not?

Installed into my SR-2 without a hitch. Copied previous partition over, reordered boot priority and worked just fine! Slightly faster write speed than the Intel 320 300GB drive but significantly faster read speed.

Cons: Not dinging the drive but for you SR-2 owners, the Marvell Controller itself will limit the thoroughput to roughly 380MB/sec reads and ~240MB/sec writes. It'll be a good drive to keep around though as it can go quite a bit faster than that!

Other Thoughts: So far, love it. You can tell there's a little speed boost compared to previous SSDs with this drive. Time will tell though if it works perfectly. So far all other drives I've had have been flawless. I hope this one is too ;).

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice SSD

Pros: FAST. Software actually works. FAST.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: OK, so the ASUS G74Sx was getting on 1 year old, so I decided to upgrade it a bit with the 512 GB Samsung 830. After a clone using the free EaseUS Total backup 4.5 (about 1.5 hours to make a clone on the SSD hooked to my USB3 port), I removed a few screws and slipped in the 512 GB Samsung 830, flipped it back over and booted into Win 7_64 in 15 Seconds. That was fast. Made sure I was booting in ACHI, clicked a few settings in control panel to stop indexing, defrag, etc., and put everything bak in. The entire operation took about 20 minutes. Turned everything off after a cold boot, re-ran Performance and numbers were as follows:

Pre-Samsung - CPU (i7-2500) - 6.4
16 GB Mushkin DDR3 2100 RAM- 6.5
Nvidia 560 GTX 2 GB DDR5 - 6.4
Seagate 500 GB 7200 rpm - 5.6

Post-Seagate:

CPU - 7.1
RAM -7.1
GPU -7.4
Samsung SSD - 7.9

Costs are irrelevant when returns are sufficiently high, and in this case, the $700.00 for the Samsung SSD was well worth the expense.

5 out of 5 eggsUpgrade Thinkpad W510

Pros: I have installed three of these SSDs (256GB on my new build, 512 GB for wife's new build, and this upgrade) and love them. Boot is almost instantaneous. I play computer games and the loads saves are very fast.

Tom's Hardware site rated these the best performers of the current crop of SSDs. My Windows experience performance for disk jumped from 5.9 for the factory HDD to 7.9 for the SSD and with a memory upgrade the overall jumped to 6.4 limited by graphics.

Samsung and Norton did a great job of preparing thorough instructions for using Norton Ghost for this replacement and installing the hardware. I worried that the copied partions were F:, G: and H:, but when I pulled out the old HDD and put in the SSD, the boot went fine and the drive partitions were C:, D:, and E:

Cons: Only complaint is price. For the new builds of desktops I used the version without Norton Ghost and a bracket. That was $20 less. For my wife's portable upgrade, I could use the Norton Ghost I have (its uninstalled), but I can't find a bracket for the portable. The bracket is only a piece of rubber to hold the narrower SSD in place.

Other Thoughts: Others have said Norton Ghost does not copy the vendors hidden rescue and recovery partition and they used other software to copy it. Not copying that partition is fine with me for two reasons.

1) That is 10GB that can go toward the over-provisioning (unallocated space for garbage collection) that the SSD wants

2) In the past when I have tried to use a rescue partiton, it would not run because the portable was not the same configuration as shipped (I think I had added memory).

So, I made recovery DVDs from the rescue partition. The vendor had a procedure. I have put all the original replaced components (RAM and HDD) in the Samsung SSD box. If I need a clean install, I will restore the original components, do the recovery, and then do the Norton Ghost thing over again.
