ICON Loading...

Samsung introduced the 470 Series line of SSDs in August, 2010. These new drives are the company's first aftermarket SSDs designed specifically for consumers upgrading their existing computers. They are also the first SSDs to use Samsung's 30-nanometer (nm) class toggle-mode double data rate (DDR) NAND chips, which enable extremely high data throughput rates. Equipped with a 3 gigabits per second (Gb/s) Serial ATA 2.0 interface and available in three storage capacities-64 gigabytes (GB), 128GB and 256GB-the 470 Series SSDs read and write data up to three times faster than typical hard disk drives, allowing them to store two standard-length DVD movies in just a minute.

1 out of 5 eggsShort life

Pros: Fast, while it worked.

Cons: Bought it December, 2011 and it just puked (4 months) screwing up Windows 7 completely and not even showing up as a drive when I tried an Acronis restore. Just awful. The 80 G Intel it replaced never had a problem in 1.5 years of daily use.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung 470 128gb ssd

Pros: I put this in my Asus G74sx becaise Asis support told me I couldn't put in a sata 111 and I believed them. They aren't to bright if you know what I mean. My laptop boots completely in around 15 seconds and shut down in less than 10 seconds.

Cons: Asus sucks

Other Thoughts: Like I said this hd ssd os great for the price and relaible as all hell.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Undamaged; reasonably well packaged for an OEM product.

Feels solid and well made. Software checks for firmware upgrades and allows you to change settings for over provisioning.

It's a Samsung.

Cons: Connectors don't accept cables with locking tabs.

Software from web site doesn't have a security certificate! Software also doesn't export any results from testing, and lacks features found in Intel's tools. Lots of pretty graphics, but otherwise an incomplete and almost amateurish effort from a multi-billion dollar global conglomerate. Get into the game, Samsung!

Norton Ghost had to be installed on original HDD to clone over to SSD - a stand-alone bootable cloning tool would have been a much better option (please, though, not Acronis).

Performance was great when first installed, but has fallen off noticeably in three months time. Had a Windows Exp Index of 7.5 for first two weeks, then dropped to 6.9. Has crept down to 6.5 since. Somewhat disappointed.

Other Thoughts: You can save a couple of bucks with this OEM unit, if you don't mind having to download the manual and software from Samsung's site.

If you need cables, a carrier, &/or CD, consider other options.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST SSD

Pros: I was worried about going to a SSD after reading some of the reviews. Bought 2 of these drives one for OS and the other for a few games that I play often. Windows installed in 7 minutes, WEI score went from 5.9 to 7.6 on hard drive. No DOA or BSOD issues with these drives at all.

Cons: none as of yet

Other Thoughts: I7 960 12gb x58 motherboard drive works perfectly no issues at all Highly recommend

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome speeds, good reliability (so far)

Pros: I've used four of these so far, one in my own system and three in client builds and all have run wonders so far. It's only SATA II but I still get a WEI of 7.5 when running on AHCI. 20 second windows boot. Loving SSD technology!

Cons: I'm with jinsu. I couldn't get 120hz either. In fact, I couldn't get any display whatsoever from this thing since all it's got is a SATA and power port so it's tough hooking it up to a video output. I was gonna dock an egg but then I remembered that it's hard drive and not a monitor. LOL.

Other Thoughts: Shiny case!

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Beautiful Picture, stylish, front panel controls, 3D with glasses.

Cons: 120hz works when only connected via Display Port. Does not get 120hz with HDMI. It doesn't matter which HDMI cable you get. This is a limitation of the monitor. Make sure your video card or other output device supports DP. Nvidia card owners, watch out.

Other Thoughts: It's my fault for not doing some more research about the 120hz limitation. But, I do expect a monitor of this caliber to support 120hz via HDMI. This was an assumption which I acknowledge is a fault of my own. Don't try using any DVI -> DP converters. I already tried and the picture quality is just poor. I'm very disappointed because Samsung is a great brand.

5 out of 5 eggsBest of Breed

Pros: Fast, Faster, fast enough for me. Faster than Intel 320 series. More reliable than any other SSD available, worth whatever premium over other SSDs because of the triple core controller! Are you kidding me? The Sandforce controllers are far inferior to Samsung's triple core. Samsung manufacturers the best SSD controller on the planet.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have an Intel SSD on my computer at work, with same specs as my home computer; this thing blazes it. I bought an Intel 320 series previously for this computer, and this thing smokes it for breakfast. I prefer to buy from an SSD manufacturer who makes their own controller. Buy this drive and found out why.

Intel i7 Core CPU 920@2.67GHz, 6GB RAM, ATI Radeon 4500 Series (time to upgrade the GPU).
