5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This DRIVE OWNS! It survived a broken PSU and motherboard. Normally that would ruin a mechanical drive. Samsung I could kiss you guys. This is how you make good hardware!

Cons: At the time the price was high. Today they are very affordable. So none.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely beast SSD

Pros: Great drive at a great price (at the time.) There are less expensive drives out now, but when I purchased this, it was a sweetheart of a deal. Read/write rates are astonishing, and there have been zero issues with stability. Highly recommended.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Everything you'd expect from an SSD. Been going strong for well over 2 years.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Sue W: Your review is not indicative of the performance you should be getting from this drive. Either your laptop is not configure properly for SSDs (SATA controller is in the wrong mode), or you simply have a lemon.

3 out of 5 eggsPerplexed

Pros: It's an SSD?

Cons: I was talking with a developer the other day who has the same laptop that I do. I was complaining about how slow my laptop was and I mentioned that I think they have 5400RPM drives in them (Dell 6430U, what we call "Developer Grade"). He said "I have an SSD in mine." I was like: "WTH, I want an SSD." Looked in Windows device manage and I do in fact have an SSD...a Samsung 830 series 256GB. I'm perplexed because I have never been impressed with the speed of this laptop. Boot time is that of a 7200 RPM mechanical drive..tops. It is an i7 with 16GB RAM and most of my software seems to take forever to load. I had a Dell i5 with a hybrid drive and it outperformed this machine easily. Don't know....just thought I'de throw in my 2 cents.

Other Thoughts: meh

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong in MacBook Pro

Pros: Decent price, fastest performing SSD, Samsung reliability (purchased in Aug 2012)

Cons: none with this SSD

Other Thoughts: Bought and installed in a 2011 MacBook Pro 15" 2.5GHz. Awesome boot drive for a laptop that is used daily, often all day long. I used to not like shutting down my MacBook for the long boot times (50 sec or so) when starting up on a traditional HDD. Now I'm up and running in under 15 seconds from the time I push the power button. I often shut my Mac down instead of sleeping, like when storing it overnight in the computer bag. Highly recommended! In fact, I bought a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO for my new 2013 iMac. Great drives!

Pros: I purchased this drive 6/2012 and thought I would do a follow up so far.

Cons: Samsung tech support is by far the worst in the industry. If you buy this drive, don't count on getting any warranty help with the drive, they will shuffle you around until you give up. Believe me, I know.

Other Thoughts: Now on to why I had to deal with Samsung tech support. About a year in, my drive failed to boot just like everyone else. A couple restarts later it came back but at severely reduced speeds. This went on for about a week, until one day nothing would make it boot.
So now I submit a trouble ticket to Samsung on their website. Nothing. I emailed them with my trouble ticket number. Nothing. I finally called and was told my ticket number didn't exist. After waiting on hold and getting transferred around, I finally got a tech guy who put me on hold and hung up on me. Called again. Got another ticket number and a bunch of things to try. Have a nice day. Things still didn't work so I emailed the tech guy at his email with my ticket number. Nothing.
I give up. So I pulled the drive out of my computer, cables still attached, with the idea of putting in an old drive and doing a restore. For the heck of it, I restarted my computer once more just for the heck of it. It worked, and my speed was normal. I ran it out of the box for a couple days without any problems, so I decided to put the drive back in. Dead again.
Anyway, it turned out that the SATA cable (and I tried several) does not seem to fit tight in the back of the drive and works loose. I bought a new SATA cable and put a bead of hot glue around the plug after I inserted it to keep it tight. It has been 7 months now and the drive is still working flawless at the advertised speeds.

Great drive still, but I will never buy another Samsung product again after the experience I had with their service.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for about a year and then catastrophically failed

Pros: I was first quite pleased with it, especially after reading all the reviews. Although the drive was not the fastest SSD out there. It was easy to install...

Cons: I purchased two in Oct. 2012. Now Jan. 2014, one drive unexpectedly failed. I had it installed as drive C: with Windows 8 on it, but this morning while rebooting Windows failed to boot. When I booted up into recovery console and did C:\ DIR I got 0 files. So here you go, Samsung...

Other Thoughts: I tried to contact Samsung on their web site. They have an online chat... that conveniently does not deal with SSDs. :) They gave me an 800 number to call instead. Moreover when I tried to send them an email, the page that I was supposed to use did not even load correctly and I got stuck on that step as well.... So good luck contacting their support if something goes wrong!

Pros: Fast!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My Win7 x64 PC, with loads of boot-loaded apps boots in less than 15 seconds. To preserve finite writes on device I keep as much data on a hard drive and use a RAM disk for swap file and Temp folders.
