5 out of 5 eggsStable and fast

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: - Easy to install
- Easy to copy from other ssd drive
- Software was easy to use

Cons: - the software while it runs well i don't like having to install software to put a drive in. prefer a disc with pre OS load options. that my personal preferences though.

Other Thoughts: I had a Intel M4 SSD before this. compared to that SSD the PRO just makes the M4 look silly.

I ran several test for speed and access write times. the Pro beat the M4 10 times over. OS load time more than halfed the speed of my other SSD.

My main reason to upgrade my Intel M4 to the 840 Pro was that when the power went out at my house the M4 would not be recognized by the bios anymore. I would have to jump through hoops to get the BIOS to see it again. This "Upgrade" fixed that problem and gave me speed and stability more then any hard drive I've had since maybe the 90's

4 out of 5 eggsSamsung 840 Pro

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy to install.

Cons: Paid too much.

Other Thoughts: This Samsung SSD was easy to install. However, I don't see any difference between the Pro series and Samsung's standard SSD's in terms of noticeable performance. I wouldn't spend the extra on the Pro series again. Actually my favorite SSD is my first Intel SATAII, which seems to perform better than the Samsungs, even though the measured specs are much lower.
Also, as seems to be always typical of Newegg, the SSD became available for $30 less a few days after it arrived. Newegg will NOT refund the difference, once the item is shipped. I have been burned many times by Newegg pricing, and I am now looking for an alternate source of computer hardware. Nice job, Newegg!!

5 out of 5 eggsSmoking Fast

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Thing is blazing fast & great transfer rates. .

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Almost always one of the first in any server. What an advantage. Can't wait till the prices come down a bit more. Will definitely be getting more Samsung SSD's when it does.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung Software Fixed Optimization Issues

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Much faster than the first gen intel SSD it replaced

After running the Samsung software, was able to get the advertised speeds for the most part.

The Samsung Software is nifty and has nice go/no go indicators for anyone unsure if their achi mode is on, if your plugged into a 6 bg/s port, and if your os is using the drive correctly.

Cons: See "Other Thoughts" as I don't exactly see it as a con.

Other Thoughts: At first, the speeds i was getting from HDTune's tests were not as impressive as I expected. About 280 read/write

I had to play with the provided Samsung "magician" software to see what was going on. I had to enable their "RAPID Mode" to get increased functionality. It was just a simple c lick of a button, no install or anything, and it worked.

5 out of 5 eggsValue SSD

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: -Very fast
-Good amount of space at 256GB
-Slim and light

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: This was a huge upgrade for me. I was coming off of a 7200rpm SATA I drive with Windows Vista as my primary drive for my gaming rig. I put this in with a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and wow what a difference. Windows boots in about 5 seconds. OS is very responsive, file searching is quick, everything is quick. This is a solid drive.

I have it paired with a 1.5TB hard drive for all of my games, but at 256GB it is a good intermediate size if you don't yet have a large hard drive to go with it. Available space with just Windows installed was something around 235GB.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: We have hundreds of these drives, on my box I have 5 in RAID 5 and 2 EVO mirroring. All of Samsung's drives kick ***. if you are thinking about moving up to SSD then hit it baby.

Cons: Price over the Evo's but I like the blacks just a little bit better could just be me.

Other Thoughts: Gonna hate when Samsung goes Evo all the way.

5 out of 5 eggsBest SSD on the Market!

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I purchased this drive off of a well known online auction site for a cheaper used price. This thing is insane fast! I can’t believe the transfer speed I was seeing the other night, but I was moving a 6gb file from a WD Raptor X 10,000RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s HDD to this drive and let me tell you, my jaw dropped. I don’t quite understand what happened or how, but that file finished in like 4 seconds. The transfer speed in Win8.1 was showing (are you ready?) 1.92GB/s, then went back down to about 448MB/s for the last 1GB of the file. Besides that freak file transfer, I typically see about 480MB/s when moving large files. CrystalDiskMark showed 520MB/s read and write. After POST, when you see the Windows 8.1 screen during boot, you don’t even see the little balls circle around –it just takes you right to the desktop in less than a couple of seconds and you’re ready to go. After the split second you click on Chrome it's there with no waiting. I’m also using the i7 4790 too just to throw that in there. Very happy with this drive.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Want another one! Price drop please?!
