5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best drives out there.

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Amazing speed.
Good warranty.
Well-supported by Samsung.
Prices are dropping since the 850's came out.

Cons: Can't think of a single one.

Other Thoughts: Got one of these for my FX-8350 build, the WEI primary hard disk rating of 7.9 was the first of many pleasant surprises.
The drive comes with some nice support software.
I liked this one so much, I bought another 256GB and a 128GB drive.
I'm using the 128GB as the boot/OS drive in a portable LAN party system. The other 256GB drive is in my stash, just in case I need one in the near future.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung 840 pro MZ...BW 256 GB

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast and good, easy to install, replaced 2 HDD Raptor 10 000 rpm in raid 0 for SSD and great upgrade, ssd hit 7.9 with Windows perf. analyse. paid 160$ for, it's a good price for this range of quality.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: If you really need the sata- usb cable be sure to select the good model, the''BW'' come w/o cable.. look for ''LW'' or laptop bundle kit.
Also be sure to upgrade the Samsung prog magician before clone your old drive..

5 out of 5 eggsMatt

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast.
Rapid mode makes it quantum fast.

Normally up to 540 MB/s read.
Rapid mode up to 3200 MB/s read. I think that SATA cable is saturated now.

Cons: what the critics say, what the techs say. Maybe you should read a bit before saying what you should and shouldn't do with solid states

Other Thoughts: 1.) don't believe anybody that tells you you shouldn't defrag. Windows sucks at this process. Defrag it and you'll pick up performance. This is the the 6th solid state i've worked on and performance has only gone UP with defraging.
2.) Rapid mode... wow. I thought getting 540+ mb/s was good, along with the 90000 mb/s for random. I enabled rapid mode, everything went up. I got 3200 Mb/s sequencial. A 600% increase. my random went 10,000.
3.) please read the SSD endurance articles. I've got 1.12 TB written to this thing and i have absolutely no worry about it's endurance. They've managed to write 1.5 petabytes and the Samsung 840 Pro series is still in the running. That's why i got this sucker. Even with my defraging and writing i think 20 GB a day, I don't have to worry about it dying any time soon.
They say 2 TB is the limit, or 20 TB is the limit.. if that were true, my last work computer would have showed signs of death as it was at 17 TB.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: At my job I buy these for almost every laptop I can get away with buying one for. They are fast, and worth it. Out of maybe 20 laptops and desktops that I've put this in, 0 have died.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: With anything, there are going to be that small percentage that get a bad apple. It happens, things arrive DOA. Doesn't mean this isn't a great drive. Buying one here soon for 1 of my desktops at home

2 out of 5 eggsCloning Sucks

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast

Cons: Using the supplied Data Migration software, I copied my existing Win7 SSD to the Samsung SSD. I can no longer create a System Image or do a Windows Repair using the install disk. This is caused by the System Reserved partition being full. Apparently, this is a known problem with many cloning applications. Samsung support offers no solution. I believe this is a problem worthy of a solution.

Other Thoughts: Beware if you're not ready to do a fresh install. You'll no longer be able to use Windows backup or repair.
