4 out of 5 eggsfast

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: super fast read speed. pretty fast write speed.

Cons: 120gb is not enough

Other Thoughts: I find I load into games way faster than other players, however 120gb did not turn out to be enough, wish i went for a larger drive, otherwise, wicked fast.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I've had this for nearly a year now, with Windows and all of my primary apps installed on it (web browser, media player, file manager, etc). No issues or hiccups, fast performance as you'd expect from an SSD

Cons: None that I'm aware of. I know some had issues with this line of SSDs from Samsung (and Samsung released a patch, and I think is in the process of releasing another), but mine's been fine

4 out of 5 eggsGot this to test in a HTPC lon term

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, Cheap, Small, Lightweight. Windows 7 media center runs like a dream on it, everything is easily 100%-200% faster than it would have been if the OS had been running on a 2tb seagate 5900rpm drive. Samsung has yet to dissapoint me on their Pro line, so I figured I'd give this a go.

Cons: TLC is still not proven for reliability yet, and by the time it's long term characteristics are known, the drive or technology itself might be phased out, but I hope it's comparable to spinning discs in the long run.

Other Thoughts: "So far so good", as a man who jumped from a skyscraper was heard saying by other office workers near windows on descending floors as he fell towards the concrete.
*Fingers Crossed!*

5 out of 5 eggsNice little drive

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I've had this for about a year, and it seems to still be running strong. I only have my operating system on it and a few other programs that I don't plan to remove. So I think with that strategy, I' should get a lot more life out of it. I have a 1 terabyte hard drive for all of my games, music, pictures, and other programs and it's working out nicely.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: This is my first SSD, so I'm not sure how much I should expect from this. I'm told not to write and rewrite stuff to it because it can damage it, hence why I decided to use it mostly for my operating system, and use a bigger hard disk drive for my storage.

5 out of 5 eggsAs advertised

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: In continuous operation in a Folding machine 24/7 since 1/2014. That's 15 months at this time. Not even a hiccup.

Cons: no OS clone software

3 out of 5 eggsDegradation

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast to start with - no issues

Cons: Apparently there is a known issue with degradation of speed over time and Samsung is doing nothing about it. My windows 7 experience index has gone from 7.5 to 6.9 over the year.Calling them and you get the menu run around. They won't even acknowledge the problem. Sad - they had a reputation for quality and that is why I bought it.

Other Thoughts: Grrr - I just bought a 250 gig and it has the same issue

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: SSD control software that came with the drive was expecially good for learning how to get the most performance with your SSD.

Cons: When new this drive would register 7.8 from WEI, 7.9 is what had been expected. A year later it is 6.9. With Rapid Mode enabled, it now reads 3275 read, and 2558 Write. Nice high numbers but, the WEI was only raised up to 7.1.
Aside from the numbers, it never has been as snappy as a Mushkin SSD first felt.

Other Thoughts: The drive has been reliable all through my tinkering. I wish the Samsung software had come with the Mushkin, because then I would have learned the needed adjustments instead of an RMA false ending. . Kingston also offered starter software, but that was it. When SSD's were brand new to the market, the rest left me alone to figure it all by myself, and adjustments were not made automatically with Windows 7, my firmware would never engage with the Mushkin. This Samsung gets. 5-stars for relibility, and 3-stars for actual use speed. Unless rapid mode was in use, the Writes speeds have always registered a hundred more than read. Isn't it always supposed to be the other way around? Yesterday read was 325 only. Went back to Rapid Mode; even though it feels the same, the numbers at least have the right perspective.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast drive, and so far reliable.

Cons: It feels a bit cheap since it is just plastic, but I guess since it doesn't have any moving parts it doesn't really matter.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these, one for the system drive and one for my data. So far I have no complaints. They run cool and use very little power compared to my old spinning disks.
