5 out of 5 eggssamsung 840 evo

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: very easy to set up, if your M/B bios as it make sure you enable ssd and make sure you plug into sata3. the bootup is very fast for me it was 18-20 seconds when I could start to work. the software was very easy to work with just take your time to read what it is telling you. If you are going to clone your old drive make sure it can fit into the new drive. I am very happy with this ssd

Cons: none at this time

Other Thoughts: I tried to down load the free game that was sent with this ssd, but it kept asking for a credit card, thinking that I had done something wrong I asked my son in law to do it for me since he works in the IT dept. where he works, same thing, I would buy this ssd without the game but please do not make it harder to redeem the cupon that came it. If it is no longer valid then say so, I am old school, I will spend my money on thing's that I want and are good value new egg HAS allways done that and I will always shop here. The software company for this game is a different matter. AS always newegg is still my number one

5 out of 5 eggsEasy Set Up!

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I had an SSD prior to this, 64gb SSD- I needed more space. Was only use for OS, but still filled up. I got this 250gb SSD, and let me tell you, set up was easy. It came with 2 programs, one to transfer all your files and the other one to keep the health of your drive and files. Amazing! It took me 20-30 minutes to completely swap out the drive and have the files and OS transferred over. I did not think it was going to be that easy, but I am so glad it was and so glad I chose this drive.

Cons: N/A

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Just updating the old PC from a WD VelociRaptor 72gb boot drive to this new Samsung SSD 250gb. Easy installation for a tiny drive of this size, just have to make sure the plugs are on the same side as the rest of the HD's that are in the case. IF you have more than 2 HD's, I disconnected all but the old "C" drive and the new SSD. The migration software is outstanding from Samsung and it's free, unlike some of those other companies that don't provide any for downloading or that you have to "buy" the install kit, more $$ or some other software that is cumbersome to use. Installation took a little longer in my machine as I had to blow out the huge dust bunnies living inside my tower, but after it was put back together, the "cloning" took about 10 minutes. Once done, the PC booted up even faster than the old WD 0,000 rpm VelociRaptor.

Cons: Just wish it was a little less pricier that the "other" SSD's, but money well spent.

Other Thoughts: The Pro model seems to read and write a little faster according to the specs, but i can't tell the difference without a bench

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive, bad Software

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great drive, great value for the money.

Saw major load time decrease (as expected), more than I was actually expecting, when moving between 7200rpm drive and this.

If I have any issues, I will update my review, but I doubt that will happen as I have a different Samsung SSD going on 4 years now with no issues.

Cons: My only recommendation is be wary of the cloning software it comes with. It blew up my Windows 8.1 installation and had to do a recovery to get things back up and running.

5 out of 5 eggsa must

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: a must for any system build. SSD makes the boot and load times so fast. Once you have one, you will never go back.

Cons: only con being price for the storage size compared to traditional drives. but you already knew that.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I am surprised at how light weight it is. I think it could fit in my wallet, though I haven't tried. It is a little larger than one of those magnetic key cards used to unlock electronic doors. Easy to plug in, just connect power and a sata cable. I used a spare sata cable I had lying around. UEFI Bios detected it no problem, even allows me to keep my old Raid 0 hard drives as primary while I prepare to migrate to SSD only. Samsung Magician software is informative, has lots of features to turn on.

Cons: None at all!

Other Thoughts: I want another one for Raid 0

2 out of 5 eggsGreat 250gb 840 evo ssd BUT...

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cannot say enough good about this little thing. It worked great, and was extremely fast, with makinv my productivity and gaming sessions that much more fast. It was my main OS drive and that's about all I've put in it with the exception of some nitpicky programs such as antivirus and what not. But all in all great product.

Cons: The cons on this bad boy are that it had one moment where it just ran outrageously slow for a week for no particular reason, taking about 2 to 3 minutes to start up, but it stopped that; this occured a few months ago.

After this event it had maybe three or four times rebooted itself for no reason while I was either writing a document or in the middle of a game.

A third and final problem I had, and this one is simply a huge problem, but it did not load the OS anymore. I left it on for a whole night to let it startup but it didn't. It was stuck on the same starting windows screen for about seven hours and it is still stuck there.

Other Thoughts: I've bought this drive back in late April 25th and it is basically the best but ultimately the worst drive I have ever had. It had the shortest life of any of my drives, beating the record of one year from a seagate hdd I've had yeads ago.

I'm not sure if I'll be buying another samsung ssd especially after having this sour feeling in my mouth. I feel my money was wasted my first time buying an ssd and should have stuck with the old hdd instead.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and reliable

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Out of all the SSD's I have running, this one last the longest

Cons: Not much - bit higher in price than others but worth it.

Other Thoughts: Spend the extra money. Not worth the headaches of a failed SSD. Most times they are not recoverable.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I bought two of the 250 GB SSD's to use in a raid setup
Very fast, set up in raid0, benchmark: read 950 to 980 MB/s. write 913 to 945 MB/s. Depends on which the benchmark you use.
and firmware was up-to-date wow.Of course found that the manufacturing date was just over a month from purchase date.
that's why firmware was up-to-date I think

Cons: haven't had them for very long but the only problem so far is Samsung software will not work when the drives are set up in a raid.
so you can't check on the firmware status unless you take them out of raid.
even though they should be clear about the raid problems I still give them five eggs.

Other Thoughts: took a couple tries to get this to work because you cannot check the firmware when the SSD's are set up in a raid. So had to do a basic install with the 840 EVO's in non-raid. Found that firmware was up-to-date and did a speed check and they were either at or above claim speed. Then put the 840s back into raid0 and reinstall everything. So heads up for everyone if you're going to use raid, check the drives before converting them to raid.
